'Sᴏᴍᴇ ᴋɪɴᴅ ᴏғ sᴏʟɪᴛᴜᴅᴇ ɪs ᴍᴇᴀsᴜʀᴇᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ ɪɴ ʏᴏᴜ'

Shin held the books that wouldn't fit in his bag in both his arms, his leather shoulder bag slung over one of his shoulders. He leaned on the swinging door to open it, glancing at the occupied tables around in the library. With so many to choose from, all of them were occupied with two or more people, most of them studying together. And then he spied a boy sitting alone, doing some studying or something of his own. It seemed like the best decision to sit with him rather than barge in on a couple, so he headed over there, sitting across and a seat away from the brunette. He looked a little frustrated in what he was doing, but Shin wasn't sure if he just always looked like that or it was his studying face. He observed him for a quick moment, acknowledging that he had him for at least a few of his classes. Or, he had seen him enough to recognize him a little. He plopped down into a seat and pushed his bag out in front of him, already beginning to busy himself with work.

Shin slipped out some of his textbooks and put them beside him, then plucked out a pencil or two. He put the eraser at his mouth and thought for a moment or two of what he had to do, and then began opening binders and textbooks and laying everything out in front of him so he could see it all. It also made him look very very busy, which he did seem to be. Not even enough time to say hello to the other boy, or to introduce himself or make some small talk. Not that he would have done that anyway, but maybe a quiet little hello, and that would be it. But he only continued to work, at one point lifting his gaze to glance up at the boy, observing him for a few seconds before continuing quietly.

Ciaran was in his own world of text books and paper until he heard a nearby chair scooting back. He perked his head up to glare at the noise, expecting some guy leaned over in it and preparing to speak his way, but instead being met with someone already pulling items out of his bag. He stopped mid-glare before giving a thoughtful nod and looking back down to his own work. Still, it was unusual for someone to join his table with the sole intent of studying, so Ciaran spared another glance upward. He subconsciously noted that he wasn't that horrible-looking before wondering if he should continue in quiet or not. Ciaran figured he should at least greet him.

"Hi." He uttered quickly, looking back down afterwards while hoping he wasn't being too awkward(He'd already experienced enough of that) by speaking up after a small amount of time had already passed and that he wouldn't notice how ticked off he managed to sound in one syllable despite his best efforts. It was just a hello of course, and he wasn't intending on keeping the conversation going since they both seemed busy and Ciaran had already gotten back to his work. Though a look over the other guy's sprawled out work merited a continued conversation if it was desired. Ciaran was looking to improve his social skills with small things like this anyway since it would certainly help him in the future, but that all depended on if he was or felt talkative in the first place.

'Sᴏᴍᴇ ᴋɪɴᴅ ᴏғ sᴏʟɪᴛᴜᴅᴇ ɪs ᴍᴇᴀsᴜʀᴇᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ ɪɴ ʏᴏᴜ'

Shin decided he wasn't going to utter even a word to this boy, he needed to get his s**t straightened out. He needed to get all of his work done before practice so he wouldn't be up until 3 in the morning again, and wouldn't fall asleep in history class. He could feel the others careful, neat gaze on him for a second, and then a startling little mumble. He froze for a second there, lifting his gaze to Ciaran in mid-sentence. And then he smiled a little bit, very very lightly and continued writing. "Hello." He murmured gently back, and hesitantly looked back up moments later. He observed him now, trying to be quick and really trying not to stare. Shin quickly averted his gaze, slipping a hand through his black hair.

He continued quietly, then, not sure what else there was to say. He considered asking him if it was okay that he sat here, but pushed it aside and hesitantly continued his work. Off of his bag on the table there was a little miniature baseball on a keychain, a gift from his American father. He supposed he always would hold a little resentment towards his father, but the man tried. And he tried really hard. He came to every one of his games, bought his uniforms and got him a new mitt every year. Shin appreciated it, he did. He acknowledged that it was difficult for him.

Shin focused on his work for a minute or so after that, trying as much as possible to not be distracted by the kid in front of him. The school wasn't so big that he didn't know anyone in any of his classes, but it was so big that there was definitely people he didn't know. And he didn't know this kid, which made him feel even weirder for being there, at his table. Invading his personal, private space. He would just try to go as silent and unnoticeable as possible, sinking into his seat casually. He slumped over his papers and at one point opened up a textbook, holding it in his lap.

Ciaran observed his voice as it was spoken, trying to find any signs of impatience or aggression. He thankfully didn't locate the familiar emotions and it seemed even a bit soft, but he still felt stiff as silence began to creep back in. Ciaran wasn't one to interrupt someone who was working, in fact he was the type who would throw a fit if the same happened to him, but considering he hadn't been flat-out denied from talking he felt safe to continue as he did his own work. The problem was finding something to talk about. Although Ciaran would be fine simply talking about their assigned workload, he wasn't sure the other felt the same, and began scanning around for something of value to start up a conversation. Most of the things he saw fell into the aforementioned topic, but the key chain stuck out fairly well.

"So, um... you like baseball?" Ciaran spoke quietly, only partially because of their location, looking up with a sheepish expression and furrowed brows that could easily be mistaken as annoyed. He thought about cracking a friendly smile, but figured he'd save the impossible things for another time. Ciaran had never been interested in sports, focusing mainly on the obvious, but he loosely knew the rules of the biggest few from his constant thirst for knowledge. He figured he could at least keep it up for a few minutes as long as the other party was willing. Ciaran tried not to think about what would happen if he wasn't. Probably just more awkward silence and pencil scribbling until it was time to leave. That erupted thought caused him to look back down and focus harder on the paper below, his ears now hyperaware to any sound coming across from him.

Shin honestly wouldn't mind if the boy tried to strike up a conversation. He himself wasn't up for starting one, he never really was. And his greeting had almost come out a little resentful, it seemed. Though, as he had observed before, that seemed to be his constant state of emotion. Shin's eyes were kept down on his paper until Ciaran spoke again, and then he lifted his eyes very quietly. "Oh," He murmured, looking towards the keychain self-conciously. He looked back up and made eye contact, and Ciaran in turn glanced down. "Yeah. I do." He nodded carefully and sent another hand up to rest his chin in. He considered mentioning that he played it too, but he supposed that could be obvious. "I, um, I play on the school's team," He gleamed carefully, trying to be as articulate and fluent as possible.

A lot of thinking went into conversing with strangers, he supposed. It took him a lot of consideration to think about what to say next. "Do you like baseball?" He shot back, and with that his smile grew curiously. Perhaps this kid was a total baseball fanatic. Well, at least they'd have something to talk about then. Interesting.

The more he talked the more obvious it became that this was for the better; he definitely needed more practice than he thought. Ciaran could already feel his cheeks turning slightly warm in anxiousness due to social interaction that didn't involve any sort of yelling, glaring, or violent arm movements, in turn deciding to keep his face looking down at his papers as they conversed for now. At least it wasn't that suspicious in this type of situation. "Oh... that's, uh, interesting..." He uttered softly, not really sure what he should say next. He had never gone to one of the school's games before, so he wasn't sure if inviting himself to the next one would be awkward or not. It wasn't like he'd even wanted to go that much just to keep the conversation going, but that would probably be rude to say.

Instead, Ciaran led his attention to the question he'd been asked himself since it didn't take much consideration. "Just as much as any other sport." He answered frankly. At least it wasn't a lie, and didn't seem too offensive. Or maybe it did, depending on how he took it. Ciaran sat for a second in thought, focusing on finishing writing down an equation before resuming his conversation. "Are you any good at it?"

Neither subjects in the conversation seemed to really want to be talking to wach other. That fact alone, along with Ciaran's reluctance to actually be a strong part of the conversation completely amused Shin. He actually smiled softly when Ciaran told him that it was 'interesting'. Clearly this boy was not into baseball, and he didn't need his reply to know. With that, he had to grin slightly, knowing clearly now, he was not into sports. No, a studious little kid like this was probably into rich things like horse riding or whatever.

He didn't mean to be rude or judgmental or anything, but it was funny. The only reason he was asking these questions was to lengthen their conversation, but he had absolutely no idea why that would be necessary. It was cute, though. Shin couldn't think of any particular reason why this boy would want to speak with him, even when he was so conversationally terrible. He nodded back to him, glancing down to the baseball on his bag. He looked up, though, with narrowedly curious eyes with Ciaran's last question.

Hesitantly a wider smile spread on his lips as he watched the other boy. Was he any good at it? What a silly question. He wasn't even sure how to answer that. His dad, mostly, had been encouraging him since he was little. He had been playing since he was very young, devoting a big portion of his life to hitting baseballs with bats. "Yeah, I'm alright at it," He murmured modestly. "I'm Shin," The black haired male introduced, pushing a hand across the table for Ciaran.
