Yes, some information isn't filled in all of the way, but I am working on it! Feel free to leave suggestions!

Basic Overview

Group of lions from long ago are coming to light. Rising from the ashes of fires and death. The Pounig, literally translates to phoenix, also known as, Ashen lions, occupy their old ruins now. They get their name from the ash that covers most of their land.

The lions here tend to be shorter furred and shorter maned, but more muscular and toned. They have to go great distances for food and water, thus the tone and muscle. They survive in the burning heat where grass is known to catch fire in the summer. So far there is nothing to catch fire save for a few dead trees that haven't completely burned down, so they are safe from it.

The Territory

In the flat lands, nestled between two rivers where the grass is dead and what trees are as dead as the skeletons that scatter the lands, half buried in ash and earth. It is by no means the prettiest land, nor the most abundant, but they make due. Sense of duty and tradition drew them back.

History

Once a proud pride that celebrated life and mourned the dead, the Pounig were happy lions. Life was good. However, as legend has it, they got too arrogant, stopped celebrating and thanking the gods for their good lives and they were struck down by fire.

Most fled the lands as the grass caught fire ad spread quickly, but some died. Those that ran scattered and only a small group stayed together. From this line, after four generations, the Goddess of Beginnings gave this band of lions a vision. In this vision life was good. Grass grew through the ashes of their old home and the prey animals returned. Once more the Pounig flourished.

And so, they followed their leader to their old home. Once they reached the boarders, their queen pushed her paw into the soot and ash and pulled back to reveal new grass. The prophecy was coming true. It would take time and hard work, but the Pounig would once more rise to the occasion and never forget the ceremonies to the gods.

Royalty

The King and the Queen are not always going to be mates. However, they have to breed at least once to produce a litter with an Heir. The King and the Queen can each have a Consort. Any cubs produced between the King and Queen with their Consorts are called Duke or Duchess, depending on their gender.

The Heir's mate is chosen by the King and Queen from current Captains or Sector Leaders. Once the King and Queen step down, if the Heir's mate is still a Captain or Sector Leader, they step up into their roll of King or Queen. Then a new Captain or Sector Leader is chosen by the new King and Queen.

Gender Roles

Aside from males fathering cubs and females birthing cubs, there are no gender roles. This is a very gender neutral pride in the form of roles. After the cubs are weened, if a male wants to be a stay at home dad, that is perfectly fine, so long as the cubs remain happy and healthy and become productive members of the pride.

Species

Lion only - No hybrids.
The familiars that are preferred are avian, but not limited to. Smaller familiars are also allowed.

If hybrid cubs are born, they will be thrown out, along with their mother. They are very xenophobic when it comes to every other species aside from lions. Breeding with a non-lion is considered dirty and not natural.

Obviously this means no cross-species relationships can happen.

Marriage

Marriages cannot be broken unless you take your case to the queen and king and they give you consent.

Same sex marriages are allowed

Breedings and Flings

-- Only those adults that have registered can breed. Rogue breeding is permitted, but remember, no hybrids.
-- Adolescents cannot breed. They are supposed to focus on becoming a useful member of the pride.
-- When cubs are produced, please use the member update form so the member list can be updated.
-- One of the pride owners will be checking breedings and cross referencing with the list to make sure you have registered.
-- Registering is easy: just post a form and go. There is no excuse as to why you shouldn't fill this form out.

Sexuality

Homosexuality is fine. Any bonds made that bring two lions close together, regardless of gender, is smiled upon by the king and queen.

If a homosexual couple wants children, they can ask for a surrogate.

Naming

Their given names can be of any origin. It doesn't matter. The only one who knows your given name is your family or your mate. It's not to be told to anyone aside from the ones you trust the absolute most.

The Secondary Names are known as your phoenix name. These should be in Armenian or Turkish.

Coat Coloring

There is no restriction on coloration here.

Allied Prides

-- Prides willing to help out in hard times.
-- Prides alright with allowing hunters and parties onto their territory to hunt.
-- Can easily fling with members of this pride.

Sectors - Similar to a clan, the lions are broken down into five sectors within one pride. OOCly the members are rolled and sorted into these sectors. ICly the time of year a lion is born determines what sector a lion is sorted into. Joining rogues are sorted by the King or Queen into the sector that needs the most help. I.E. the ones with the least amount of members.

Krak - Sector of Fire

Lions sorted into the Krak Sector are responsible for prep work for the Fire festival in the middle of summer. Here they (details later)

Andzrev - Sector of Rain

Lions sorted into the Andzrev Sector are responsible for the prep work for the Rain festival in the early spring. Here they (details later)

Yerkir - Sector of Earth

Lions sorted into the Yerkir Sector are responsible for the prep work for the Earth festival in the early fall. Here they (details later)

Mokhir - Sector of Ashes

Lions sorted into the Mokhir Sector are responsible for the prep work for the Ash festival, which follows right after the Fire festival in the end of summer. Here they (details later)

Skizb - Sector of Beginning

Lions sorted into the Skizb Sector are responsible for the prep work for the festival of Beginnings, which happens the very first week of the new year. Here they (details later)

Winter is a time of rest and relaxation. Focusing on family and hunting, building the pride's food supply.

Royal Ranks
Queen || King

The King and Queen are the rules of the pride. It is their job to see that each clan is balanced out and everyone is doing their part. They go on hunting trips, constantly wander through the pride, listen to their subjects and always strive for perfection when it comes to the festivals.

Consort

The King and Queen's mate if they so chose. There is not always going to be a consort. They hold no power in the pride, but should be treated with respect.

Heir

The Heir is the first born of the first litter of cubs born to the King and Queen. As long as the cub is in good health. If the first born is in poor health, they move to the second born.

Prince(ess)

These the cubs produced by the King and Queen that are not the heir to the pride.

Duke || Duchess

These are the cubs produced between the King and Queen with their respected Consorts. They will never be in power, but they are still royalty.

Royal Guard (12)

The royal guards protect the King, Queen, and their family. These are usually hand selected with the help of the Captains suggestion. A Captain will never be a guard because they are needed to train the soldiers.

Sector Leaders (5)

Each Sector has 1 leader, male or female. The original Sector leaders are appointed by the King and Queen. They come together to make the decision based on the lion's strength, intelligence, and personality. After that it is determined by bloodline. The first born of he first litter of the Leader is considered the heir to that sector. Therefore when their parent dies that is the leader, they step in.

Sector Leaders meet with the King or Queen if there is a major problem within their sector they can not handle themselves, such as sickness.

Captains (5)

Each sector has 1 captain, male or female. They are chosen through a tournament of the soldiers. Only those who sign up for it can participate. It's a series of battles until one is left standing. That one lion will be the Captain.

A new Captain is needed every year at the beginning. The Old Captain can defend his/her title. If he/she wins, he/she is Captain for a new year. If he loses, he/she is downgraded to soldier.

Middle Ranks
Soldiers

The soldiers are the army of the pride. They drive away outsiders, protect the pride and are posted at all the borders.

Surrogates

In this pride, surrogates are considered selfless. They are lending themselves to those couples that can not have children themselves, be it because they are homosexual or they are just infertile.

Female surrogates get more time with the cubs than male surrogates. The female surrogates get to nurse the cubs and ween them, then they are off to live with their real parents. Whereas males only get to mate with the female and that is that.

Surrogates get no part in the naming process ICly. However, it is up to the individual family if the surrogate gets to form some sort of bond and connection with the cubs, such as going to go visit them.

A surrogate can step down if they want to have a family of their own. There is no pressure into staying a surrogate. If they want to leave, they can become any rank. Common or middle class ranks, that is.

Common Ranks

Hunter

The food providers of the pride. They venture out past the borders and well out into the rogue lands to bring back any meal they can find.

Artisans

The crafters of the pride. They take found objects, glass, cloth, things like that and then turn them into beautiful little trinkets and jewelry.

Entertainers

Story tellers, dancers, singers all fall into this category. They are the ones that bring smiles and laughter to the pride during the more grim times.

Nannies

Cub caretakers. If both parents are too busy to take care of the cubs for a day or a certain amount of time, the nannies are readily available for them.

Apprentices

The adolescents of the pride. Here they study their chosen profession. They're not adults, but not cubs anymore.

Youths

The cubs. No cub is to be unattended anywhere in the pride. They must be with an adult at all times. Apprentices do not count as adults. Of course we understand cubs are sneaky and tend to slip away.
