The Diggies : Familiar Group

Hill-home:

The Diggies live in caverns beneath an old tree. These holes were dug out long ago by their ancestors, and they are continuously strengthened as the years pass, to make sure their home stays strong. In here they make sure to make room for each Diggie and their family, with the avians taking roost not only within the tree atop Hill-home, but in those surrounding it. The Klips rest themselves within the hill lands that make up the Diggie's territory.

Directly beneath the tree is a cavernous hole, one used for social meetings and small celebrations, where as large ones are taken above ground. It is also where the Tinies spend much of their day, watched over as their parents go about their duties.

To the north of Hill-home are mounds, topped with feathers and rocks. These are the burial mounds of Diggies past. Amongst them, the largest of them all, is the Greatest of Hills.

To the east of Hillhome lies the entrance to the mining tunnels.

Big-Beard [Closed Rank]
The leader of the Diggies. These Ratel have shown themselves to be all that a Diggie is. Brave, wise, and able to handle the responsibility of leading others. This rank is most commonly held by a female, however in some instances a male has held this rank. This rank is always held by a Ratel, however, but they listen to all voices within the group that wish to bring forth their concerns.

Great Trailer
These are Trailers who have shown themselves quite proficient in trading and are now in charge of their own group of Trailers. Usually this groups range between 5-10 Trailers, including the Great Trailer themself. It is the job of this Great to make sure the trading shinies are accounted for, and to make final decisions on large trades.

•Trailer
These Diggies travel along Africa alongside Clip-clops. These are the merchants of the group, trading their wares off to other groups in exchange for useful things to bring back to the rest of the Diggies. Pelts, craftd jewelry and cloth are some of the items they may trade, but also various herbs and things they can not find around their Hill-home.

The Klipspringers of the Diggie's group are seen as companions. Alongside the Trailers they help carry trade shinies. Around the Hill-home they may help with various tasks as well.

Great Digger
These Diggies are skilled enough that they are in charge of their own group of Diggers. Like the Trailers these groups can range between 5-10 Diggies, including the Great as well. These Greats keep an eye on the Diggers beneath then, and to make sure the tunnels are sturdy enough to hold the traffic they see.

•Digger
Diggers busy themselves down within the mining holes. They dig in search of not only shinies to trade, be they mineral or otherwise, but also for roots and other tasties.

Earth-talker [Closed Rank]
These are the spiritual side of the Diggies. They tend to the dead and make sure the burial mounds are cared for. Earth-talkers are also in charge of communicating with the earth, making sure that the Diggies do nothing to anger the earth, lest it cave in on their mines or den-homes. They also ask the Earth for it's protection for Trailers, so that the ground beneath their feet be sturdy and smooth. There is only ever one Earth-talker within the group, lest the earth become confused. The only exception is should the current Talker take an apprentice, but this Diggie will not gain the title until the previous one steps down.


Sky-sights : Avian Rank
Whether scouts or messangers to Trailers the Sky-sights are a useful lot. They help to keep eyes out for any dangers that may be lurking around, carry messages to Trailers from the Hill-home, and back again. They may also help to find delicious hives of bees for the Diggies.


Tiny Tenders
Whether a Digger of Trailer, sometimes a Diggie must be away from their little ones. This is where the Tiny Tenders come in play! These Diggies' job is to care for the young of all within the Diggie group, whether ratel, avian or klip alike, these Tinies are cared for alongside one another.

Tinies
Baby Diggies are called Tinies. These little guys are pretty helpless, and when their parents are off doing their Diggie duties these little ones are watched after by Tenders. This rank also applies to both chicks and baby klips.


Sneak-Thief
Stealing from one's own kin is highly frowned upon. Thieves are seen as dishonorable and are given the punishment rank of Sneak-Thief. Word spreads quickly, all will know of the Sneak-Thief! They are not allowed within the digging mines, nor on treks with Trailers. They are seen as untrustworthy and may be shunned by many of the group. There is a chance they may be able to regain a proper rank, however only the Big-Beard may decide this.

Beliefs and stuff

The Earth-
The Diggies believe the earth a sentient thing, that it is only by it's will that their homes are left intact. It is the duty of the Earth-talker to make sure the earth is appeased. They host any burials of fallen kin, and make sure the mounds are well cared for. The passing of a Talker's title is done via a private ceremony, one in which the current Earth-talker and their apprentice drink a mixture of fermented fruits, veggies and herbs, a mixture known only to the Talkers. Through these visions the apprentice will truly know the earth and why they tend to it.

Colors -
Diggies can be any color beneath the sky. There are no colors that are shunned by the Diggies.


Burial Mounds and Death-
The fallen Diggies are buried within mounds of earth situated to the North of the Hill-home. This area is tred upon carefully, and only the Earth-talker may walk upon a mound itself. Those withing to pay respect do to at it's base, and Diggies are not at the top anyways.
The dead are buried quickly, and a ceremony is held to grieve them, however after this a celebration starts. The fallen Diggie is bid a fond farewell as their spirit buries within the earth, to the Great Cavern below the surface. This Great Cavern is where all Diggies hope to go when they fall, for here rest all their noble ancestors before them, drinking the tastiest of fruit drinks, and where the mining holes are full of the shiniest of shinies.

Gender and same-sex pairs -
Gender is a non-issue within the Diggies. It is seen of little value and only really used when one wishes to create babbies. They know this requires a parent of either sex, but other than that neither is seen as better than the other. One's worth is shown by their deeds, and it is by this that a Diggie is judged. Same sex partnering are as well of little importance. Love is love, and who one loves is who they were meant to love.

The Greatest of Hills -
This Hill, so much larger than all the other burial mounds, is where those who die with great honor are buries. Those whose deeds shall be talked and sung of for generations. Burial within this place is seen as a great honor, and one many Diggies even strive for. None needlessly seek death, but should one fall while upholding the values of a Diggie then this is where they shall find their final rest.

Celebrations:
There are a few times within the year when all the Diggies gather together. Even Trailers make sure to make their way back to Hill-home in order to be there.
