Astrid was out of the den. Her ‘mother’ was away for a bit, which meant she was able to roam around a bit more. Even though she was of age, Astrid still preferred being around her adoptive parent more than other members of the pride.
But today was different. The light coated thrall was sitting on a boulder, eyeing the darkening sky. She was no oracle by any means, but she knew a storm was brewing. The lands could be in for a nasty treat. She shuddered, her bright pink eyes closing for a moment as a quick breeze passed her. She never was one for storms. They reminded her too much of a bad memory.

"Will you just shut up and hold still," Karm snarled, claws outstretched, crouched low, her eyes narrowed on her lighter companion. They were thralls, Karm hated it though her light colored 'sister' did not mind the life. Karm was born of warriors, this was not a life for her.
She was a force to be reckoned with, in her opinion, she should be favored.
A soldier.
Anything, but a thrall.
She wished to gain strength, favor, move up in ranks.
But how?
"But I don't want to fight, not even play fight, it is not right, not expected of us," Fen'li said while touching the ground lightly, not dare looking up with her light, gentle eyes. She was a soft, naive spirit. Perhaps it was what led the two of them here. But is was a home, it had others, and they were no longer alone. Why was it such a bad thing?
"You don't have to be so angry," she heard Karm snarl, "I mean...the others...I'm sure..they know, what you wish for them to know," Karm's demeanor did not change. "I think you are strong, that counts, yes?"

Astrid’s ears perked at the sound of a scuffle. She glanced to the left, where the noise was coming from, before standing. Her ears strained to hear the words. Was it the reavers fighting again? It didn’t sound as deadly as that, so the peachy lioness went to investigate.
Her bright pink eyes glanced at the two lionesses, both similarly marked, but their colors were completely different.
“What are you two doing?” She asked softly. They didn’t appear to be reavers, so Astrid found it okay to approach the duo.

"Just hold still, I want to show you something," Karm said as she approached, slow, "Now watch, you step here, tuck and-" in a simple motion without much effort, Fen'li was on the ground because of the manipulation of joints.
"It is very easy, but you need to practice it. If someone comes at you, they won't be as slow as that."
Fen'li rolled and hurried to her feet, dusting the dirt from her pelt. "Nono, we should not do this, no, we are not to train, no, hunt, help, assist, we do what we are needed to do. This is not-" and then as a voice perked up, neither of theirs, Fen'li raised her eyes to see a rather bright lioness approach and a smile crossed her face.
"Karm, Karm someone new!" and without another word Fen'li closed the gap a little, her posture still quite low so the other lioness had a frame taller than hers.
"We were..well, I don't know exactly, Karm was trying to teach me something, but I don't like fighting, I am Fen'li, that is Karm," Fen'li said pointing with her paw.
Karm sighed and strode over, obviously knowin the leason was done, for now.

Astrid watched the ‘demonstration’ wincing a b it when Fen’li landed on the ground. She shook her head. She was like Fen’li in a way, not wanting to participate in the rough housing Karm was a part of.
She chuckled lightly, feeling a little bit at ease with the females. Growing up with just a mother, being around those of her same gender was almost a relief for Astrid, rather than being near strange males.
“Pleasure Fen’li, Karm.” She bobbed her head in greeting, smiling. “I’m Astrid. Why were you…fighting?” She directed the question to Karm, as it would seem she was the instigator of it.

"Astrid, nice name, I like it, you can call me Fen, it is much easier sometimes, "Fen'li said with a smile marveling at the markings on Astrid's face. They were so different, unlike the boring, repeat of her pelt. "Well she was...trying to show me things. I'm not very good, I just do what we are supposed to do. But not Karm, Karm wants to do something different. She is very strong and wise, very sneaky," Fen'li said in almost a whisper peering at Karm who was...right next to her now.
"I heard that," and with that Fen'li ducked. "I was trying to show Fen some moves to keep herself protected. She and I, we are thralls, and I don't want her to be taken advantage of..she is...quite naive, she knows it and embraces it almost, I love her for who she is like a sister, but she needs to be aware. Right Fen?" Karm asked but Fen looked away.
Karm sighed.
"What about you Astrid? Do you have to worry about the ranks such as I? Do you enjoy whatever rank you have like Fen does?"
"Yes, yes, what do you do?" Fen'li asked with curiosity.

“I do what I’m told to do,” although Astrid had some leniency, especially when around her ‘mother’. She was a reaver after all, a well respected rank among the stormborn.
She turned toward Karm. “I, too, am a thrall,” but the lioness never did think badly about it. “I just do what I’m told.” She gave a little shrug. If she did what she was told, then no one would get hurt. And by no one it really just meant Astrid.
The pale lioness didn’t really understand the concept of thralls. When she was younger, she assumed it just something the children of reavers were called. On Alehandra’s first outing, she found out the true meaning of the slave-like term.
Though, for the most part, she was fine with it.
“How long have you guys been here?” Astrid didn’t believe the two were born in the pride. They, as she would think, would be more receptive to the rank like she was.

Ah, so this one was like them, but like Fen (though not as enthusiastic) didn't seem to mind it at all. "I just have a problem with it sometimes, I'd rather do something that would use my strengths," she would hunt, thats fine, but cubs.. unless they were her brood that she could fashion into someday soldiers, reavers or freeborns (though at this rate they would have to rise to that rank on their own accord) she didn't care for the furballs.
"We've been here for a while, keep to ourselves mostly, were are no one's thralls in particular," though Fen knew for a fact that was something else that greatly bothered Karm. Karm didn't want to belong to anyone while Fen didn't mind the thought. That was meant someone wanted her..besides Karm, which was a good thing, right?
"Do you ever feel like it is too much...I don't understand how she can do it," Karm said motioning to Fen who just smiled. "I don't know how to..get myself to comply," she huffed, the thought annoyed her.
"Karm has a harm time listening..." Fen said with a held in laugh.

No one’s thrall? Astrid frowned a bit.
“Does no one take you in?” Perhaps the pale lioness was one of the luckier of thralls. She had Ali who was a kind soul. All the thralls, in Astrid’s opinion, should have someone like Ali around. Thinking of that, she would have to get back to her soon!
“Just don’t think about it. If you no longer wish to be a thrall, then you need to prove yourself. Not ‘complying’” that was the word she used, right? “would be something that keeps you at the rank for life.” Astrid couldn’t image being anything but a thrall.
Astrid shook her head. “I learned a long time ago about not listening.” Luckily she didn’t have a scar to prove it.

Fen'li shook her head, "no, no one has chosen ..well, either of us really," Fen'li said scracthing her arm, "we were captured and bruoght here, but no one has truly lay claim, I guess, is that..a good thing? I don't know," Fen'li thought it would be nice to be wanted.
Karm's ears perked at what the female said..stuck at that rank for life? Hmm, perhaps she had a lot to think about. Karm figured, maybe she could bare to conform, if it meant that she could rise up later. Though she sighed, it would take a lot out of her to do so. A lot of will and determination.
But the thought of someone claiming you. Perhaps it had a point? "How does that happen, someone claiming a thrall? What happens then?" Karm questioned.
Perhaps it would be good, for Fen maybe, to have that happen.
Karm though, she didn't like the thought.
Fen'li watched Karm's demeanor change, was this female getting through to her, this Astrid? And Fen'li couldn't all this time! Fen'li pouted, she had tried so hard, but either way, if Karm would change, that would be good.
"Fen just wants to be happy."

Astrid gave a little shrug, wincing at the first drop of rain that hit her pelt. The land was known for its storms, it was no surprise that it was beginning to rain. Hopefully it just wouldn’t pour.
“It could be a good thing?” She had heard how some thralls were not treated that great by their…owners. Then again, there were those who had a fantastic lifestyle. Hers, she considered, was a nice one.
“You serve them I suppose.” Although she was technically Alehandra’s thrall, Astrid just saw the reaver as her mother. Whether they were biologically related or not.
“Do what they want.” She didn’t know what others would ask of their thralls. “Hunts, I guess.” There could be underlying factors that thralls could serve too. But Astrid was too naïve to ever think about that.
The pink marked lioness looked at Fen. “You don’t have to be claimed by someone to be happy,” she murmured softly. “You looked pretty happy before,” well, at least when Karm wasn’t pinning her on the ground.

Good thing, perhaps. But Karm thought of the potential other things that masters could ask of their thralls, particularly male masters. She shuddered at the thought, moreso for Fen'li. Karm glanced at her for a moment. Fen'li was so naive, she would aim to please anyone. Karm knew that any master of a thrall would take advantage of Fen'li..perhaps. Though perhaps their were others that would see the lighter side of things and see the better side of Fen'li and not want to taint that light. Karm could hope.
She could.
As the rain started to trickle, so did the thoughts through Karm's mind. Her tail flicked and felt the water touch her pelt lightly over and over. The sotrms did not bother her any, Karm was like a storm herself.
Fen'li smiled and nodded, "I always try to be happy, try to, but sometimes Karm is so ...distant, and I think of my family, they are so far away now," she got separated so long ago. It was a tough story to tell as she was so young when she got separated.
She could still remember her mothers eyes. Her fathers white fur.
It seemed like a dream.
"Perhaps we shall all find happiness, and bring it to the pride," she said with a smile.

“It only takes a few to bring happiness,” Astrid stated with a nod.
As the rain began to get heavier, the lioness ducked a bit. “We should get out of the rain.” She looked around, wondering just where these two thralls stayed.
“Do you guys have shelter?” She was sure Ali wouldn’t mind if two extra bodies stayed in their den, just to get them out of the wet.

A few to bring happiness, Karm looked to the sky, the clouds, how one brought much to the land. She had a thought.
She'd keep it to herself.
Fen'li smiled at the thought, only takes a few to bring happiness, yes it did! More there were, the happier others could be. But how? Fen'li pondered and was unsure of how to proceed with that kind of plan.
"We have a shelter, not far from here, the lighting should be coming shortly," Karm said watching the clouds interweave with one another."Should be a spectacle."
"It will, be so nice, yes," Fen'li said nodding.

The lioness nodded again.
“Good, it’s best we all part ways then. I’m sure we will all see each other around the pride again.” Maybe next time the two thralls would be claimed? If it made them happy that was.
“Fen’li, Karm.” She spoke quietly, “be safe wandering back, please?” She didn’t want the approaching storm to cause her new friends harm.
