Karm felt bored, she sighed and toyed with a few stray shard of some slate rock she found and placed together. They would make a good trap if stuck in the ground, facing upwards. A vital point, hitting another's paws and making them unable to escape. Her mind at work. But she felt as if the busy work of a thrall life was anything but for her. But she tried, tried, to mind her manners in front of those with higher rank. But how could she so easily?
Her mother had been so keen.
Her father raised by a warrior, her grandfather a fearsome stalker of savannas and any terrain.
Now she, a thrall? They would laugh at her.
But she did it for her, she thought, looking over to the pale lioness happily toying with some pebbles, the one she thought to be much like a sister than any other in this world.
Fem'li didn't mind being a thrall. To her, this was home, home was where happiness was. She was no longer alone, and then with Karm wandering what seemed like an eternity by themselves. They were then taken here, and was it so bad? No. But Karm thought so, it seemed more now than ever, day in and day out. Fen'li did not mind. She was full of life and spirit and the world in this pride was her life.
If she could do something for another, she would.
It made her happy to feel useful, though Karm said it was something to be used as a tool.
Fen'li did not mind, not one bit.
But meeting others...that was a whole other story. Karm barely let Fen out by herself, protective as she was.

Speaking of being out by oneself... Shemali'bwana, who more often went by the name Norman, wandered the pride's lands, humming to himself. At his side was a bag, filled to the brim with things he liked to toy with. While officially he went by the title of Freeborn, he referred to himself as an alchemist, fascinated as he was with the world around them and magic they could possess and use.
The cream colored like stopped suddenly, dropping his back and then dropping his whole body down, eyes wide with wonder. "I don't believe it! I haven't seen one of these since I was a CUB!" Ever so delicately, he reached a paw out, sliding it carefully under the cap of a rather colorful mushroom. He was practically wiggling in excitement, and didn't notice the pair of lionesses near by.

Karm eyed the male as he approached, her nerves on end. What would he try? She would fight if he tried something stupid, funny, uncouth. She flexed her paws, claws showing and she could hear mumbled shushes from Fen'li. She huffed and her claws retreated as she let the slate stones rub against one another making an awful scratchy noise.
"Stoppit," Fen'li said waving a paw, ears back, "please, stoppit, you never let me see anyone else>" Fen'li looked like a child asking permission to ahve a treat, go five paces, but indeed it was true.
"He's a male. What did I say about-"
"Yes, yes, but those were roguemales of the roguelands..not all can be that way. Not all of them were, yes?" Fen'li pleaded as she tried to walk a step, as she did, Karm snarled and Fen'li waved her paw again, begging her dark companion to cease.
What was he looking at?
"Can..can I, help?" she asked, softly, whispered, crouched down, uncertain.
Was he indeed a brute like Karm said?

As he plucked the mushroom and was moving to put it in his collection, Norman was made aware of the presence of others. Every hair on his body stood on end as he jumped with a surprised yell, going an easy five inches in the air... And his mushroom went flying somewhere else without him. When he landed, he looked around, before his eyes fell on the white lioness. "Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't see you there! Um.." He looked around, ears suddenly up. "Did you see which way my mushroom went? I've been wondering about what sorts of effects it would have on the average lion to see if I can make something for the Reavers to use when they go out on a Viking... Um..." He looked back at the lioness. "Oh! I'm sorry, my manners! I am Shemali'bwana, but I prefer to go by Norman!" His ear flicked and he noticed the other lioness. His ears folded back into his mane as he started to shrink away a bit. She didn't look like she liked him....

Karm snickered and sneered at this...boy. Nothing more than that. Harmless. Air came through her nose in a snort and she lay her head on her paws and watched for the mere fun of seeing what amused Fen so much about interaction.
Why did she need such a thing?
What joy would it bring her?
Hmph.
Fen'li watched him and as the mushroom went up in the air and fell behind some slate rocks and vegetation, almost like natural debris, she scuttled around him low to the ground. Yes, low, she had to remember. Low was good, respectful, yes, was what she thought she remembered for manners.
"Yes, yes, its right here, see," she picked it up gently, cradling it in one paw and offered it out, outstretching her arm very ong as if not to get too close to him..Norman, as he said, in case she offended .
"I am Fen'li, Fen is fine..or whatever you wish, that is Karm."

If Norman was startled before, now he was simply surprised at the lioness' manners. Her demeanor had changed a bit when he said what he did... Which meant she was a Thrall. He had to get out of the den area more often... "I'll go with Fen... Um..." He crouched down so he could be eye level with her, offering a smile. "You don't have to act like that around me. I don't mind if you're yourself." He glanced at Karm. "And as long as it's not dangerous for either of us, I don't mind if you act like yourself, too." He knew his sister, Susu, would have a fit if a Thrall acted out in any manner. His brother, Yu, was ambivalent about it. His brother, Icarus, and his sisters? He wasn't entirely sure.
His mother would probably try to dote on them!

Fen'li watched as he crouched down to be eye level with her and she bit her bottom lip. This was..awkward. Why was he doing this. As he spoke, she understand and stood up a little straighter, but still, she was not as tall as him, so that was good, or else she would feel odd about it.
"I just feel it is something I have to do, be respectful, yes," Fen'li said with a nod.
Karm watched him and bit her lip too, but not in the way Fen'li did. More out of annoyance. "We're fine," she said simply, rolling her shoulders. She had to get used to this, had to act better, but, ugh, it was so, so difficult. Her tail whipped behind her for a mere moment and then settled. breath Karm, just breath.
"What do you do? Do you have..your own thralls?" she eyed him, if he did, how would he treat them.
He better answer carefully.
"Karm, please, stoppit, he is so nice, look at him" Fen said waving her paw in front of him smiling.

"Oh, not personally, no." Norman took the mushroom, smiling at Fen'li again. "Thank you!" It was deposited into his stores of gathered goods, before he looked back at Karm, oblivious to the dangerous bait. "My sister, Susu, has one.. Poor Amaranth has to be so confused, Susu is rude to her, Yu is... Stern... And mother dotes on her like a cub!" He shook his head. "She's going to develop problems if this keeps up and somebody doesn't free her." He sighed, toying with some grass. "Unfortunately, it's not my place or ability to do so. Only Yu can take her to be freed from Thralldom, since he brought her in... That was the family's agreement." He'd been a small cub at the time, not sure fully of what was going on. He still didn't much know, but he didn't like it, regardless.

Freed?
Karm stepped forward, fully attentive now to the situation at hand. "How do you get freed? Who can do it if one does not have a master?" she questioned. She needed answers.
Fen'li looked between the two of them, her ears falling back a little. If Karm would be freed. Would she stay? She seemed to like the surroundings, but what would that mean for Fen'li?
"You wouldn't really-?"
"Yes, I would," Karm said quickly. She looked to Norman, waiting. "Well?"
"Don't push him, maybe...maybe he doesn't know," Fen'li said in defense. Maybe he didn't know...but who knew? Only him.

"The lion who brought you in, I would assume." He sat down, scratching his chest with a forepaw. "That's why only my older brother can free Amaranth from servitude. HE brought her in, even though SUSU is the one who technically 'owns' her..." He scowled. "Not that anybody should own anybody, though." He looked off into the distance. "I don't agree with the idea of even the hybrids and non-lions being kept slaves. We should all be free and equal." Fate, though, had put him in a pride that kept slaves, especially of non-lions and hybrids. He couldn't just leave, either. He was loyal to his family, and loved them all very much. He didn't want to leave them behind.

Perhaps she had someone to visit then..or a few someones. It had her think, and her mind as carried elsewhere and made it hard to focus in front of this male. As he was not one of the ones that brought her here, he truly would not be of importance for release, unless, somehow, he could do that and was not revealing that truth.
She felt distant now, so many plans running through her mind.
Fen'li could tell Karm was not with them anymore. She sighed, it was not like Karm to be social anyway, so why should it change now. But, it did not damper Fen'li's spirits!
"I'm glad I was able to find the little thing for you," she said to Norman with a nod, "perhaps this will be of some use too?" she asked pushing a rather shiny stone towards him, "there are a lot of shards around sometime, when it rains the earth moves and lets the pieces shine like stars."
"Fen, we should go, I'll need to try and find someone, and need your help," though could she do that as a thrall, ask another thrall for help? It didn't matter they were friends.
"But-" but with a look from Karm, Fen nodded, "all right, thank you Norman, for being who you are," she said with a smile.
Karm looked to Norm, gave an expression not of discontent, but not of overjoyed happiness as Fen'li. "It was nice meeting you, Norman, thank you, for the information," it would come in handy.
Now Karm had another thing to focus on.
Freedom.

He watched the darker lioness with some amusement, then blinked at the stone. "Oh! Why thank you! This IS rather fascinating!" He gathered it up and added it to his stash for further inspection later, then waved as the lionesses left. "It was a pleasure talking to you both! Have a wonderful day!" Gathering his possessions, Norman was soon on his way again, humming as he walked.
