Jura
User ImageThey were so ******** drunk.

"Imna tell.. I'ma.. I'm gonna tell you somethin', Vibeke. These mens 'round here, they all wanna wife. They all wanna wife that's gonna 'spect 'em. All wanna wife who gonna give 'em," she let out a low belch, "babies."

Jura mashed a few more fermented berries into her mouth and chewed thoughtfully. She looked a hot mess, but in her mind's eye each movement was executed with nothing but grace and glamour.

"An'.. an' whaddif I don't want babies? Whaddif I wanna go out an' explore the worlddddddd, Vibeke. We should go s'plorin'. Together. You n' me."

Vibeke
User ImageVibeke was on her side, splayed out in the early evening light. Every now and again she'd let out a low groan, or a hiccup, or something that sounded suspiciously like a gag.

"I don't want no hudsbind," she slurred softly. "All these mens, you know, Jura, you know, you're right. All these mens just want to get their peckers wet, an' then they jess wanna. You know."

Vibeke lifted her paw and gestured madly before shouting, "ON TO TH' NEXT."

Another groan. Vibeke twitched.

"Whaddif I wanna have a millin' hubs.. hubsa.. hubsands. Hubsands. Husbands?" She waved her paw again. "Whatever. What if I want a millin' mens, Jura? You think they gonna lemme? NO. They aren't."

Hansulter
User Image"They're so drunk."

The male voice was hushed and almost a little terrified. Hans glanced over at his half-brother. While many of his siblings didn't get along because of the whole 'your mom is my dad's mistress saltwife' thing, none of the politics bothered Hansulter. They apparently didn't bother Svartis, either, because the two boys seemed to get along just fine.

"Gods. If I ever get that drunk, Svartis, throw me off a cliff. End my misery."

He was quiet as he listened to the ladies talk, stifling a laugh behind his paw.

"Can you believe this? Listen to them. Gods."

Svartis
User ImageSvartis was very much intrigued by the berry-drunk females, but he was also a little worried, too. They'd set up just outside of the main area of the pride, and lurked dangerously close to one of the nearby cliffs.

"Jura doesn't mean any of what she says," Svartis said almost apologetically. He'd been eyeing the female for quite a long while now, but had yet to muster up the courage to talk to her.

"I think Vibeke is a little bit of a bad influence," he continued, voice hushed. "Jura's never gotten this drunk before."

He'd know. He followed her constantly.

Jura
User ImageJura let out a low snort, the power of which caused her to cough raucously. She lay back on the ground, unknowingly mashing half-eaten berries into her dark pelt.

"Or, y'know, whaddif you got a man you like but he's too GODS DAMNED STUPID to talk to you? An' you jus' know that if he ain't gonna talk to you, yer family gonna set you up with a man you don't want because you got old blood AND YOU KNOW WHAT VIBEKE?!"

Jura started snoring softly, but woke once more only seconds later with a jerk.

"I forgot what I's gonna say."

Vibeke
User Image"By the Stormlord's wrinkled hairy ballsack," Vibeke crowed, rolling from her one side to the other. She was her mother's daughter, after all, and Naja had never bitten her tongue around her children. They were all well-versed in colorful curses, though not all of them spoke so fantastically. "You godda crush on someone?"

Vibeke squinted at Jura in the quickly dimming light of the early evening, licking her lips before she reached for more berries. Only a few of them made it to her mouth; the rest scattered to the ground beneath her, not that she noticed.

"You godda tell me."

Hansulter
User Image"And the plot thickens, Svartis," Hans let out a diabolical chuckle, gaze sliding towards his half-brother. "And the plot thickens."

This was amazing. Hans had never seen females drunk before, let alone drunk and having fantastical conversations with one another. It was entirely too entertaining, though Svartis didn't appear to be as entertained as he was.

Which entertained Hansulter even more.

"Who do you think it is, brother? Could it be you? I know you've been lusting after her for ... well, just about forever."

Shifting in the dark, Hansulter made himself more comfortable, letting out a low chuckle as he repeated, "By the Stormlord's wrinkled hairy ballsack, hah!"

Svartis
User ImageSvartis shot his brother a look before turning his attention worriedly back towards Jura and Vibeke. Surely that many berries wasn't healthy to consume? He was growing more agitated with each second that passed, but that agitation shot to record-breaking numbers when Jura spoke of having a crush on someone.

"She's just being hypothetical," Svartis mumbled, more for his own reassurance than that of his half brother. "She doesn't have a crush on anyone."

And if she did, Svartis would kill him.

"Do you think they're getting too close to that cliff?"

They were a good three hundred feet away, at least. Probably more.

Jura
User ImageJura sent a bleary-eyed glare in Vibeke's direction. She could have sworn she heard masculine laughter, but a quick look around didn't prove fruitful. That, and it was getting kind of dark.

Speaking in what she believed to be a whisper (but was actually a little less than a shout), Jura said solemnly, "He don' even know I exits. He don' even know I exits, and thass the saddest parta all this. They gonna make me marry some old fat flabby reaver, an' the love of my life don't even know I exits."

She let out a low, mournful sound.

"Hansulter."

Vibeke
User Image"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaansulter. He sounds sooooo dreamy, Jura. He got that sister what looks like'em right, and his papa is a reaver right."

Vibeke hiccuped.

"He's as han'sum as a God," she continued, waving her paws in the air. "Don' leddem marry you off to some flabby reaver, Jura. You gotta juss put yer paw down n' juss say, you know 'NO.' Ain' easy. They gon' try n' marry me off to some needle-pricked bast'rd, I juss know it."

She belched.

"We gotta stick up for ourselfs. You gotta marry Hansulter, and I gotta marry someone who ain't old and gross and ugly."

Hansulter
User ImageIt felt like all of the blood was draining out of Hansulter's head, and he wasn't quite sure what to do. Jura was a pretty little thing, and he'd be half-tempted to claim her if Svartis hadn't been so googly-eyed over her. She was old-blood, came from a prominent family, was easy on the eyes and had a sense of humor, so far as Hansulter could tell.

Very carefully clearing his throat, Hansulter hazarded a look in Svartis' direction. Svartis was holding very still, and Hans edged away from his brother. Just a little. Maybe an inch.

"I, uh. I didn't know."

Svartis
User ImageIt felt like all of his blood was thrumming in his skull, and Svartis wanted to reach out and smash his brother's face into the rock they were tucked behind. He knew it was no fault of Hansulter's, but Jura was his, even if she didn't know it. Even if she didn't realize he was alive and well and pining after her. Even if she didn't know that it was Svartis that had been leaving treats and baubles outside of her den for the past few months.

Forcing his breathing to stabilize, Svartis never turned to look in Hansulter's direction. He didn't speak, didn't move, didn't do anything at all.

Just kept on listening to Jura extol the virtues of his half brother.

Jura
User Image"He so hansom. Got eyes like stars, and a mane that look like dried blood." It wasn't the most romantic comparison, but everything in Jura's brain was starting to feel a little squishy by this point.

"I love him," she admitted forcefully, slamming a paw on the ground with great force. The gesture sent berry juice spraying everywhere, not that Jura noticed. "I'ma have a billin' of his babies, Vibeke. A billin' millin' of 'em. An' we gonna live happy ever after. Juss gotta get 'em to notice me."

She swallowed a hiccup and glanced over at her best friend.

"Maybe he got a friend. Or a brother."

Vibeke
User Image"Meeeeh. I'unno. I ain't ready to get married an' start pushin' out babies yet, Jura. Not yet. I wanna learn how t'fight. I wanna learn how to.. how to kick some a**. S'too bad my great-grampa is such a fuddy-duddy dickwad 'bout it."

Her great-grandpa, and Jura's grandpa. Sometimes it was easy to forget they were related, though Vibeke wasn't sure of the word that described their relationship. Didn't really matter. They were best friends more than anything else, and... well...

"I love you, Jura," Vibeke suddenly blubbered, finally lifting her head to glance over at the other lioness. "M'so glad you are my bess frien."

Hansulter
User ImageHansulter just wanted to turn into a tiny, tiny ball and disappear. Or implode. Either one. So long as he was no longer around Svartis, that would be good. His half-brother was kind of starting to terrify him, and Hansulter just wanted to make sure that Svartis knew that he wasn't interested in putting the moves on Jura.

"I, ah. I don't want her, Svartis. She's all yours. I don't want the other one, either, you could even have them both if you wanted to."

Yeah, that sounded good. Maybe that would sate the beast. Hansulter moved a few more inches away from his half brother.

Svartis
User ImageSvartis finally glanced over at Hansulter, and there was murder in his eyes. Hansulter had always been better at everything. Fighting, hunting, females. He'd always been a legitimate son, not the son of a saltwife, not the son of a thrall-turned-freeborn. It wasn't fair.

And now Jura loved him. Was he, Svartis, always doomed to be a shadow next to Hansulter?

He didn't know how to react. Hansulter seemed genuine, but Svartis was still murderous. They were brothers, and Svartis understood the importance of family.

Svartis also understood the power of his adoration for Jura.

"I'll kill you, Hansulter," Svartis growled with deadly calm. "If you even look at her the wrong way, Gods as my witness, I will rip out your throat."

Jura
User ImageJura's lip wibbled, and soon she was dragging herself over to Vibeke so that she could bury her face against the other female's shoulder.

"I love you too 'Beke, so much an' m'so glad you're my besh frienn too, an' we gonna be bess frens f'ever right?"

She felt like she was going to vomit or something equally awful, and so she took a deep, steadying breath. It worked a little, and Jura opened her eyes to peer at Vibeke.

"S'bedtime, 'Beke, we gonna sleep right here 'cuz I don't think I can walk back'ta my den becuss everthin's spinnin'."

Jura was silent for a moment, and the next noise that came from her petite frame was a crescendo of monstrous snores.

Vibeke
User Image"I love you too Jura I love you so Gods damned much," Vibeke was feeling a little emotional, to be honest, and Jura's response to her own declaration of fondness was met with a soft sniffle.

She was lucky to have a best friend like Jura, that was sure, and was the back of her head sliding off, because it certainly felt like it was, and why were the stars spinning around at a million miles an hour, and why did the ground feel so sloshy and her eyelids were so heavy...

Soon Vibeke was snoring in decibels that could rival Jura's own.

Hansulter
User Image"Sooooo, I'm gonna go home, Svartis. You gonna, uh. You gonna stay here and watch them sleep? Great, I'll talk to you later."

He didn't wait for a response from Svartis. Hansulter knew when his life was in peril, and he wasn't fond of dying just yet. There were things he wanted to accomplish. Things like.. not dying.

He would have to be certain to avoid his half brother for some time. Either that or talk to Jura and make sure she knew he wasn't interested. Drop some flattery about his brother to her, maybe.

Maybe just leave and never come back, that was always an option.

Gods. ******** women.

Svartis
User ImageSvartis did not watch his half brother leave, did not bid him farewell, did not move, did nothing until he was alone behind the rock, by himself. The lionesses were snoring, their noises rivaling that of thunder, but Svartis only had eyes for Jura.

Was it creepy, watching her sleep? Absolutely. But he wanted to be there in case anything happened throughout the night, in case she needed anything in the morning when she woke. Svartis knew she was going to have one hell of a hangover, and he wanted to look after her.

Watching Jura made it easy to forget she wanted his half ******** Hansulter.
