Rules

x- Gaia Terms of Service are to be followed at all times. Severity of punishment for not following ToS will vary depending on the offence. Minor offences will be given a warning while greater offences can result in removal from the role-play.

x- PG-13 is included within the ToS. Romance is permitted but anything more mature is not allowed. Cybering can result in banning from the guild so best not to do it.

x- Semi-Literacy is preferred. I'm not requiring any post limits but try your best. There will be no leet speak or text talk aside from character speech.

x- Respect your fellow players. We're here to enjoy ourselves so be sure to play nice. This doesn't mean your character has to be nice, just you.

x- OOC in here should be kept to a minimum. Anything longer than a sentence should go over to our OOC Thread.

x- Please do not use any distracting posting formats. Large images stretch the page, alignment shifting can result in OCD rage, and bright fonts are difficult to read.

x- Try and stay active. Activity keeps things moving and posting two to three times a week is optimal.

x- I, KiIIerWarrior, am the GM of this role-play. It will be rare that I ask too much of you but if the need arises you might have to edit posts. I will only ask edits for cases of over-offensiveness, god-modding, or incorrect posting.

x- If you're not fond of the rules then, please, don't bother reading further. I feel these to be fair and on point. This role-play will have a lot of information past this point so save yourself the time if you aren't willing to play by the standards I've set.

Introduction

Humanity was always strong. Strong in body to mold the world to their design. Strong in mind to build machines that advanced the ways of life. Strong in will to press on when there was no hope. Yet also strong in fear to defend the way of life they worked so hard to keep. Fear was the one constant throughout time. Fear waged war and conquered cities. It converted people into religious fanatics and brave battle-mongers.

Throughout time on Earth, war came and went like an illness. Slowly eating away at the surface only to have humanity try and repair it later. Peace was an ideal illusion as conflict of even a minor scale was inevitable. Eventually it was conflict that ended life on Earth. The soil grew barren and the wellsprings ran dry. Fires raged on and the sky grew dark with blackened clouds. Humanity was forced out of their home because of foolish fears and simple ideals. The stars that we both feared and dreamed about became our last refuge. So of course it was shown again how strong humanity really is.

Project reGENesis pooled what remained of the resources available. Countries banned together in order to preserve the human race. It was far too late to save home so each power had it's role to play. The advancement in Chinese and American technology made them the ideal candidates for flight systems and robotics. Russia took to launching scout drones and scanned other systems for habitable planets. The Middle East offered their fuel supplies to power all the ships and other various vessels. Australia became the planetary training facility for every specialized field, offering it's harsh terrain for soldiers and vehicles to run diagnostics. Germany and Great Britain pooled together to build defensive systems for anything we might face beyond home.

Earth became chaos through the years developing project reGENesis. People were slowly being moved to the Lunar Module; A massive station sprawling over half of the moon's surface. Many humans still suffered back home. Riots filled the cities, their people broken and afraid. The construction of the many seedling ships would take twenty-five years to complete and launch on their maiden journey into the unknown. Despite the harsh conditions on Earth, the lunar module was quite docile. People were afraid but not nearly as much as they had been back home. Bio-Farms made certain food never ran out. Cleansing systems made sure they had plenty of water to drink. Solar shields kept the radiation at bay. Gravity generators made it feel as much like home as possible. People were taught skills thought might be useful in the trek into unknown territory. We would have to show exactly what we were made of to survive out there.

-reGENesis-
------"And on the seventh day he rested"

The seedling ships that finally departed from home carried ten thousand passengers each. Civilians were kept in basic cryo-pods in modular corridors around the exterior of the ship. The number of non-civilian passengers was only two-hundred, or two percent of the population. The highest ranking passengers such as Captain, Crew, and Military received small decorated rooms contained in the center of the ship. These VIP rooms were kept in the center of the ship. For the first few weeks after departure the VIP crew remained awake preparing systems for the ship to run while they too go into cryo sleep. Crew include Captain, Engineers, Military Personnel, Medical Personnel, Mechanics, and Technical Programmers.

The corridors connecting the inside of the ship have exposed piping and ventilation covers. There's missing wall panels here and there but the missing panels were covered with a metal mesh to keep passengers safe while not in sleep. All of the important modules have been completed containing counter measures such as thick walls and air-lock doors in case of hull breach to ensure further safety. The outside of the ship is curved and black. Despite it's interior it looks very much finished and sleek. The armor is thick enough to repel most debris that might collide during travel. That is of course if the forward shield doesn't deflect it first. Also on the bow of the hull are large white letters reading, "reGENesis"

Gaia Name - shade264
Character Name - Daemon Straus
Gender - male
Age - 28
Height - 5' 10"
Description - Dark hair, Mercury gray eyes, Thin and wiry, dresses in dark or neutral colors
Biography - Formally trained as a pilot, Daemon picked up a few tricks during his career at the academy to help with his occasional "borrowing" of vehicles without formal permission. Bypassing the computerized security systems and moving along unconventional paths, he is highly athletic and an adept hacker. His piloting skills are top notch.

Physical Skill - Acrobatics
Professional Skills - Piloting, Hacking
Knowledge Skills - Astrology

Role-play Sample - Daemon stares hard at the ships console, a slight frown on his face as the pre-flight check returned nothing wrong for the fifth time, but still he was uneasy, a major undertaking like this was not something he wanted to leave up to chance and there were just too many factors. Too many things that could go wrong. He glances irately at the ships radio wishing he could check in with maintenance again, but they stopped responding after the third request for another inspection. "Probably just nerves" he mutters. Sighing heavily, he straps into his safety harness and prepares for a few tense hours of travel.

Character Name - Lia RoSune
Gender - female
Age - 26
Height - 5' 0"
Description - long curly red hair, large tawny eyes, slender and graceful, dresses in pastel colors
Biography - Lia has had a bit of run in with the authorities. She is quiet, but sneaky. It's always the quiet ones you need to watch out for. She does enjoy acquiring items that she finds pretty. She won't take something that seems to have sentimental value to another, but a rich woman with lots of jewelry surely won't miss this one piece, right? She has a soft heart and often gives away things to others if she sees a hole that needs filled. Of course, it doesn't need to be something that actually belongs to her in the first place. She appears a bit flighty and frail. She is very frail, but she is actually highly intelligent and perceptive. Because she has a little difficulty with the concept of ownership, she also gives her services as a medic freely and generously. It hurts her tender heart to see another in pain and she will do whatever she can to help.

Physical Skill - Stealth

Role-play Sample - Lia was grateful for the chance to escape the coming doom, naturally. She had acquired a small treasure trove of items left by those in a hurry. She looked through the lovely collection of earrings, bracelets, pendants, some make-up, a colorful scarf, as well as some useful items like a first aid kit, a utility knife, a small weapon, and a roll of industrial-strength tape. At the last moment she slipped the folding knife into her pocket. Then she stashed them in her locker before reporting to her cryo-pod.

She eyed the small chamber dubiously. Was it really safe? On the other hand, what choice did she have? A person near-by was also having trouble working up the courage to enter their cry-pod. Without considering the time limitations that might be involved, Lia moved to the person's side. "It's ok," she said softly. "This won't last long and you'll be out and about before you know it. Here, let me help you in." She put a small, gentle hand on the person's arm, guiding them into position, making sure everything was hooked up properly before setting the chamber's initiation cycle. "Everything is going to be just fine, you'll see," she smiled reassuringly through the portal as the chamber began its work.

Then she slowly walked back to her own pod. With a deep breath, she stepped in and began its cycle.

Samuel Redford
Mugentsuki

Gaia Name - Mugentsuki
Character Name - Samuel Redford
Gender - Male
Age - 34
Height - 5'9"
Description - Samuel has short cut brown hair, hazel eyes that droop at the far edges, a nose that looks to have been (as it HAS been) broken multiple times, scruffy unshaven facial hair, dry thin lips that never smile, a pale gaunt complexion, and a long scar leading from under his right eye, across his nose, up to his (half missing) left ear which is also set an eighth of an inch lower than his right. He has a tendency to wear browns and grey, neutral colors, baggy clothing so as to not draw attention to himself, which is exactly what got him the scar, and the scar is what got the other guy dead. Samuel is muscular, which is often overlooked due to the baggy clothing, not really ripped, but definitely athletic. He always has at least two combat knives on him, one on his chest and another at the back of his waist.
Biography - Samuel does not remember how it happened, but his parent were both dead by the time he turned nine, and now, 25 years later, he cannot even remember their faces. What he does remember, however, was his father teaching him to be strong through martial arts, and his mother teaching him to be kind and to always help the weak, then them being dead, and himself being taken in by his uncle, who was a doctor at the time, helping all those that he could, or so Samuel first thought. There was one case where he and his uncle came across a severely injured man known for mutilations and murder, a serial killer in this lawless time. Without batting an eye, his uncle put a bullet in the man's head. When he asked his uncle why, he answered quite simply, 'sometimes you can save more lives by taking one,' like it was the most simple concept in the world. When Sam was 14, his uncle passed away due to sickness, and Sam was left out on the streets. He was quickly recruited into a gang due to his capacity for combat, as he often still practiced as a stress reliever. He quickly established himself as the top fighter in the gang, to the point where even the leader felt threatened and tried to put him in line. When the leader knew he couldn't win he grabbed the nearest thing that would work as a weapon, a twisted, broken pipe, and lashed out with it, resulting in Sam's scar. In a fit of rage, Sam beat the man to death with his bare hands. The gang fell apart and Sam was once again on the streets, alone. In order to survive he took bounties from the military, tracking down dangerous criminals that the military had not the time nor the resources to go after, and trading in their heads for food and lodging. At eighteen he officially joined the military and trained in the medical field, and has been with them ever since.

Role-play Sample - Samuel looked up at the great metal ship and laughed to himself through a grimace. This thing was supposed to save their lives, but no matter how he looked at it it simply looked to him like a giant coffin. It was far uglier than he had expected, and its ominous black exterior didn't help even the slightest. The inside wasn't much better, there were still exposed wires and tubing here and there, missing panels and tiles, and even a few missing lights, as if they made no attempt to hide the fact that this thing was thrown together last second, but this was to be expected as these ships had been created not for fashion but for function. He feared the state of the med-bays, but was pleasantly pleased to discover it was sterile, white, and spacious. This was something he could work with. Conveniently, his personal quarters were placed quite close to the med-bays, as was proper, if you could really call it personal quarters as it reminded him more of a jail cell. Well, he thought to himself, at least it beats being dead or consumed by the ever growing chaos that was Earth. He sighed to himself, the act purposely drawn out as he recalled when the earth still had beauty to it. He only wished he had been alive to see it himself, instead of the pictures and vids that had been shown to him by his parents when they were still alive. He wondered if they would find a planet as beautiful as Earth once was, if they would be able to call it home, if they would be able to survive, if they were all going to remain frozen in the endless reaches of space, frozen for eternity, alive, but not really, as time continued on into infinity, with them, frozen remnants of a great race, or as great as a race can be, that destroys its own home and forces itself into the vast, empty unknown. He cleared his bed of its sheets and propped the mattress against the wall and began beating away at it, clearing his mind of the depressing thoughts and letting his stress go. Thinking about it would change nothing, the gears had already been set in motion, all he could do now is get carried on by the flow.

Max
umbraja

Gaia Name - umbraja
Character Name - Max
Gender - Female
Age - 31
Height - 6'
Description - Tall, dark, and. . . handsome? If not for a chromosome Max would be attractive. As it was she got mistaken for a man more often than not. Her cropped military haircut and insistence on wearing men's clothes didn't help the matter any.
Biography - Max was born in the slums that were pervasive in the chaos on Earth and was very lucky to have made it to the Lunar Module. That's about where her luck ran out. She spent her childhood doing hard labor in farm fields and even mines before she was finally old enough to enlist. The military soon became home and family to the vagrant orphan and she is fiercely loyal to it. This loyalty pushed her to try harder, work longer, and do better until she became a perfect soldier, or near to as she could get. Lacking on formal education, Max isn't the brightest tool in the shed, more of a blunt instrument really, but she is good at taking orders and even better at kicking a**.

Role-play Sample - Max pulled on her coat and checked her sidearm as she strode confidently down the corridor to make a few rounds, keep an eye on the civilians to be sure they all stayed in line as they shuffled off to cryo. It wasn't her official shift really, not at the moment, but the civies didn't know that and most of the time it just took a uniformed presence to settle a crowd. At least that's all it took with this crowd usually. Everyone here was just desperate enough to not want trouble so there hadn't really been very much of it lately. Still, the only thing Max knew for sure was that people were, by in large, ******** crazy and Fate was a cold hearted b***h. No point in pushing luck by going soft now.

So the imposing soldier walked stoically down the halls watching the people as she passed. So many of them were nervous if not fully afraid but Max showed no fear and didn't even feel a little trepidation for the momentous occasion going on around her. There wasn't much point to it. The ship would be fine or it would go up in a ball of flames. Worrying didn't change that either way. If anything she was maybe a little remiss to leave the Lunar Module but it wasn't as if that had been a picnic. The ship was cramped and felt a bit. . . floaty to her, though that was probably in her head, but it was better than the craphole she barely remembered on Earth and there was promise of something even better, if they survived long enough to see it. Live or die that was just the way of things.

Ryan Smitt
Ivaylo_Sai

Gaia Name - Ivaylo_Sai
Character Name - Ryan Smitt
Gender - Male
Age - 35
Height - 5'5"
Description - Not just short but small in general, Private Smitt got his looks from his mother, your stereotypical tiger mom. Dark hair, almond shaped eyes, olive skin, and vertical challenge marked him distinctly Asian while the cropped haircut, straight back, and stiff stance made him military. The toolbelt and patches on his overalls distinguished him as one of the core of engineers that maintain pretty much anything mechanical under the military's purview. Beyond that he didn't really stand out much.
Biography - Smitt had always excelled in anything academic and had things gone differently he could have been a scientist or a doctor, possibly even a politician. But things went to s**t and his father, the Sargent, put him into the military academy where he did not so much excel as got made fun of. If not for finding a friend in Max he might not have completed it. The engineering core was a blessed reprieve and gave him something to be passive aggressively smug about as he became the one the dumb jocks called on to fix their equipment when it broke down.

Role-play Sample - "Yeah. Uhuh. M'kay, so you rebooted and it still didn't work? Yeah. Wait. No. No that model doesn't have a cup hol- you did what?" the tech bit back something between a growl and a laugh then took a moment to collect himself before continuing the service call. "OK. I'm pretty sure the problem is that you shoved your double latte into the nav-com. Yeah, that's bad. No, don't try to fix it. Yeah, I think it would be best if you just went on to cryo now. I'll be down in a minute to clean up your mess." Smitt had a hard time not hissing the last as he switched off the com with a sigh then gave Max a tired smile.

"Time ta go to work?" the woman asked with a slight grin.

"Unfortunately," Smitt nodded as he stood up from the bunk and set his drink on the footlocker beside it. "You can stay if you want though I don't know how long this will take."

"Shame you still gotta work yer last day on tha moon," Max stood up with him and rolled her shoulders in a little stretch.

"It's just a dead rock," Smitt shook his head with a slight disapproval for the woman's sentimentality. "Space is full of them. I'm more interested in where we're going than what we're leaving behind."

"Lot of the boys say we're goin' straight to hell," Max said it much more casually than the words implied. "Got a pool goin' an' everything. Odds are this rig 'splodes on take off."

"Fine lot of optimists you are," Smitt grumbled then held up a hand to stop the woman arguing. "I have to go. Stay or not, it's your call."

Max gave him a wry grin then reached out and ruffled his hair like a child's as she stepped away from the couch to gather up her coat and head for the door. "Probly should do a last round er two 'fore we shove off," then she was out the door without so much as a glance back.

Smitt frowned at the door a moment before straightening his hair then pulling on his coveralls and toolbelt, taking a last look in the mirror to be sure he was presentable before grabbing his laptop bag then stepping out into the corridor. It was a fairly straight walk aft of the ship to the hangar where the pilot had called in. A few hours later he'd managed to get the mess cleaned and put the little scout ship back in order. I'll be glad once these rookies get the hell off my ship he couldn't help but disparage the civilians aboard as he walked through the loitering crowds clogging up the halls. Soon they would all be in cryo and then just a few weeks before even the skeleton crew went to cryo. Smitt tried not to think of the millions of things that could go wrong with all of this as he headed back to his bunk.

A call on the com crackled from the radio at his hip and it was another of the pilots asking for yet another sweep. Smitt didn't answer but he did turn down the maintenance corridor to give it another look if for nothing else than to take his mind off what was going on around him.

NPC's

Kirklan

Character Name - Private James (Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo) Kirklan
Gender - Male
Age - 36
Height - 5' 5"
Description - Short, stocky, all muscle under a thick coat of fur with fiery red hair and capable of growing a decent beard in a single day, Kirklan resembles a refugee from a Tolkien novel (and is a fan). When not in the standard issue soldier gear, Kirklan sports a large variety of heavy metal t-shirts and grungy jeans with steel toed boots. That's when he's not got on his Viking helm and furry vest for playing D&D. Yeah, Kirklan is somethin' else.
Personality - Kirklan has never come close to fitting the term 'normal' in any way. He's an odd mix of jock (enjoying sports and violence) and nerd (playing RPGs, cooking, and watching anime) with some measure of unlikely hero thrown in for his tendency to defend those weaker than himself. He's far from a 'normal' hero though, not even the standard anti-hero. Kirklan lacks the resolve to fit that bill, suffering from ADHD, and spaztic tendencies. Though it's undiagnosed, no one would be surprised to hear he had a touch of autism even. While random bouts of violence, screaming, and depression are not uncommon, Kirklan's problems lie predominantly in severe social ineptitude, mostly inappropriateness.
Biography - Born to a middle class family, Kirklan had a relatively normal childhood until his parents were killed in a riot when he was 10 and he went to live with his grandmother. The old lady was not equipped to deal with a troubled boy like Jimmy and simply ignored his problems, living in complete denial that her sweet boy was turning into an uncouth brute of a slob. At least he was never a bully, just a pig. School did not go well for Kirklan and it was made clear as a teenager that the only occupation he could possibly succeed in was a grunt soldier. He enlisted straight out of high school and never looked back. The military didn't so much help Kirklan as it just gave him a place where his crudeness and aggression was acceptable behavior. Kirklan quickly developed a dislike for officers, medics, pilots, and techs (anything that wasn't a grunt) due to their standard 'holier than thou' attitude toward the regular soldiers. He met Smitt on assignment a few years back and though there is the usual taunting between grunt and tech they both admit the other is an unusually tolerable specimen of their sort and in truth are actually friends.

Jake

Character Name - Specialist Jacob (Jake, JT) Thomas Bruce
Gender - Male
Age - 34
Height - 6' 4"
Description - Dark tan, dark hair, and high cheekbones mark JT's Native American heritage but green eyes mean he's not purebred. Unusual height, a haunting glare, and nasty scars (one across the bridge of his nose and several on his arms and back) make him intimidating but outside of that JT doesn't look much different from any other soldier and never wears anything but whatever uniform the circumstance requires (mostly basic fatigues).
Personality - JT is shy (though most would call it aloof), socially awkward, and slow to pick up on new things, especially academics. He has trouble understanding complex emotions and following what's considered normal modes of behavior. It's been said he has 'the emotional maturity of a German Shepherd' and that's really not far from the truth. He is distant, uncaring, suspicious, and absolutely remorseless toward the vast majority of people but for those few he lets in he is unflinchingly loyal, childishly compassionate, naively trusting, and overly protective. Whatever side you see of him, JT is bull-headedly stubborn with nearly obsessive compulsive tendencies. He follows a strict daily routine of work duties and exercise which helps manage his hot temper. Without the routine to center him, JT can become a liability. His default problem solving methods are violent and when stress makes his temper short he has been known to lash out for no reason.
Biography - JT spent his early childhood on a reservation but was taken in by Lt James Bruce when a riot burned the village to the ground (at least that was the official report on the matter). JT was 8 when he was taken into the Bruce house and raised alongside Bruce's daughter, Anja, and the neighbor children, Ryan and Claire Smitt. Mrs Bruce died years before JT was taken in so Mrs Smitt (Okasan to the children) took care of them while the men were out being soldiers. The four children grew up like siblings but JT never quite fit in. Ryan did not have the patience for him. The girls were younger. And the other children found him strange. He did not speak English when first taken in and learning the new language was difficult for him. He was picked on as a child for his language problems and still speaks with an accent which is part of why he so rarely speaks. But JT had other issues as well. His temper got him into constant trouble and his poor academics made school a formidable challenge so he spent much of his school years in juvie, instead of the academy with Ryan, then was enlisted into the military once of age to keep him out of real jail. JT and Ryan were raised like brothers but were not close and drifted farther as they took different paths in life. Before this assignment they only saw each other at holidays and funerals. Now they're all that's left of the strange double family.
