Burzum had put exactly zero seconds into thinking about whether it was a good idea for him to challenge for his freedom. Breytast vindar had finally come around again, and he had as much right to take part in this pridal tradition as any other thrall. There was no legal way for him to be prevented from doing so, since he was a lion. Only if he had been born a non-lion or a hybrid would his thralldom have been an immutable thing.
The only thing that had given the young lion any pause at all was who he ought to challenge for his freedom. His first instinct had been Naaja's ******** brother, Bruten. He hated that guy. But then he decided it might be more satisfying to kick the a** of the lion who might legally own him in the semi-near future, should Naaja's marriage go as planned. Tallskog. That would be even more fun. Maybe he could even ruin Naaja's wedding plans by killing the jerk.
With those cheerful thoughts filling his head, he waited until Tallskog came to visit Naaja. Then he thrust his head into the den and rasped, "By the way, Tallskog, I'm challenging you for my freedom. You'll fight me if you aren't a coward. Naaja witnessed the challenge."
-3 = 9

Tallskog had been surprised to find that once he and Naaja talked things over, they had a decent amount in common, and similar views about running a household and raising a family. He still couldn't say that he was in love with her, but he actually did feel hopeful about their future together, and sometimes he even allowed himself to imagine a future where they eventually did love one another.
Their wedding planning was interrupted by her b*****d thrall stalking into the den and announcing with a grin that was entirely too gleeful that he was challenging Tallskog according to the rules of the breytast vindar. For a moment both Tall and Naaja were stunned, as the possibility had evidently not occurred to either one of them. Once it sank in though, Tall could not suppress his own grin.
"Oh, that's just fine, b*****d. Name the time and place."
