A certain War no-longer-quite-a-chieftain was soon finding herself quite enthusiastically opting to be put on mission tasks as soon as inhumanly possible once she had gotten settled in to the tower (if settling in meant dumping your possessions in the largest canopied tree home one could find). She was more then eager to get started on familiar work such as this, the kind where she could really get her hands bloodied. Making her way to the portals, she was given her first assignment, and an partner with which to execute it with. Meng. Shaheen could not and would not even try to stop the gigantic s**t-eating grin that split across her face when she first sauntered up to him, gesturing towards the portal. "Shall we, Emporer?" She practically purred, before barking out a laugh and turning to throw herself through the portal with barely a thought, her wings flaring out behind her as she took to the air. She was excited, and it more then showed in her tone, expression, and behavior.

Mengyao was pleased to find that everything was slowly falling into place, save for a few details that could be worked out later. He had started to make a home within the tower, he'd begun to ready things for his upcoming ceremony to Lifen (which, in an added note to himself late one evening while he was procrastinating going to sleep, he reminded himself that he needed to work on a suitable present for her, one that would show her his feelings towards her without needing the words to accompany it), and for the first time he felt strong, rather than weak and pathetic as so often he had. In spite of his accomplishments, Mengyao sometimes was under the impression that his failures far outweighed his accomplishments, and it had begun to become a problem.
He did not trust Medea either, not at all, but being under her watchful eye was better than having to be one of the Halloween creatures that he so much despised. Perhaps this would turn out to be more beneficial than he'd originally thought, not that Mengyao had any expectations. All he wished for was a roof over his head and a place that spoke to him of pride and elegance, a place where it would be obvious that he was Horseman of Conquest and that he had earned the place where he stood.
Which was why he was determined to make the best of his unusual situation, especially considering that the tasks offered to them were of some interest to him. It was for this reason, and his pride, that Mengyao made his way towards the portal late one afternoon, fully intending on getting started with his new life. He was dressed, not in the flowing robes that he normally wore, but in plain black tunic and pants all edged with gold, a gold cloth belt wrapped around his waist. His hair was partly twisted up into an elegant knot at the back of his head, the rest of it falling free around his shoulders, and he had stuck a few glittering, golden pins in it to keep everything in place. His usual fan was not with him, or at least it wasn't visible as Mengyao strode confidently towards the portal to pick up his assignment.
An assignment that, as it turned out, meant he was partnered with none other than Shaheen.
Mengyao was reminded very forcefully of the events of the previous few days; the feeling of being Mengyao Miao, Emperor of Edric and the Golden King was still fresh in his mind upon occassion, and he could not help but remember the swell of pride and indignation that had risen within him during the fights against and with Medea. Shaheen had been his General once, in that shared life they had had with everyone else in Edric; and she had been his General again, during the fights, when he had needed her.
In spite of her clan (Mengyao had always found War to be a bit too violent and impetuous for his own tastes; they seemed perpetually obsessed with fighting all the time, at least to him), he held a strange sort of respect for Shaheen. She was wild, of course, and sometimes her behavior was erratic, but she was both capable and strong, and he could not help but find that rather appealing.
Even if she was too intense. A smirk found its way across Mengyao's face to match the grin on Shaheen's.
"We shall, General," he said to her, and slipped into the portal behind her in a much more demure and controlled way than she had (he had no wings to handle either, so there was no need to jump in case the landing did not work out). Secretly there were times in which Mengyao lamented his lack of wings, or any other defining characteristic; but then he recalled that his appearance was quite impressive enough as it was without the wings, and the unnecessary thought flitted away easily.
On the other side of the portal was a building, cold and unpleasantly dank. Mengyao wrinkled his nose, attempting not to smell too much of the rancid air that floated around the pair of them. He couldn't see any humans, at least not on first glance, but there was something else in the air, something not quite right - little creatures that glowed brightly, skittering this way and that with metallic limbs, and Mengyao caught sight of one scuttling away beneath a nearby door.
A scowl took the place of the grin on Mengyao's face.
"How unpleasant," he muttered, following along beside Shaheen. "We should find the human and dispose of him quickly so that we can get out of this wretched place. The security is a little much, but that should not be a problem if we work together."
His lips quirked a little. "I am pleased to see that you are settling in well, Shaheen," he started to say, but a light touched his face and then something slammed into him, Mengyao giving a little hiss of mingled surprise and irritation.
"What the hell - "Quote: 41 - 60 : A light shines upon you. As you look towards the source, you see a small red light before you're suddenly assaulted by a barrage of some sort of projectile. -5hp

The land they found themselves in was a tropical one, a setting that normally would have given Shaheen at least some small sense of glee. This setting was not quite ideal, however, as they found themselves faced with a run down building, an ugly stain on what might have been a beautiful landscape. Landing softly beside the tall conquest noble, her wings folding in behind her, Shaheen's jovial nature from before she threw herself into the portal vanished, leaving behind a woman who knew her business, and took her work quite seriously when need be. Her gaze swept the area, taking in everything, filing away anything she might deem important to note. Like those little mechanical looking creatures glowing with bright blue runes, hunter technology, she was certain. "I agree." Both to the unpleasantness and to the suggestion that they depose of the human as fast as possible. Walking along side her Emperor from another world, she made her way inside, carefully, aware of her surroundings and not wanting to set off any traps. Meng's sudden exclamation had her turning towards him, but all she could see was a bright light, her sword springing to hand as a low sound of disgust made it's way out of her throat. She stepped in that direction as if to help and... The light went out. Meng appeared to be okay, if not possibly a tad bit disheveled from the encounter, and she reached out to pat him on the shoulder. "Keep a better watch out." She suggested, while moving along to check on a few of the open cells, but finding them quite empty.

A few strands of hair had fallen free of the bindings Mengyao had braided the dark locks into, and he gave them an irritated glance as he pushed them out of his face, carefully tucking them back into their proper places. Mengyao gave Shaheen a look that was half an expression of disgust (at the thing that had attacked him, not at her), half an expression of wary dislike at their surroundings.
"Why could they not have given us assignments in places that did not look as though they have been set upon by some of Famine's insects?" Mengyao muttered through gritted teeth. He held out a hand and his longbow appeared, fizzling into being, Mengyao wrapping his fingers around the weapon. He felt better with it summoned, and notched an arrow against the wire, just in case.
To his utter annoyance, there seemed to be not much around the next corner, merely piles of scrap metal that was twisted and dropped haphazardly onto the floor. Mengyao kicked a piece, prodding it with the toe of his shoe, before stepping back, scowling.
"Anything yet?" he asked Shaheen.Quote: 1 - 40 : There appears to be a pile of scrap metal here. But no hunter to be found.

She simply shook her head in response to his question, backing out of the current cell she had been investigating, another that was quite as empty as the first. "Nothing so far." She added, in case he wasn't actually looking at her, while spinning her sword idly in her hand, gaze lingering on the dark shadows that occupied another cell before she moved on, mildly irritated that they really had no idea where to go and in the meantime could easily be set upon by the hunters pesky little mechanisms. Speaking of..... She only caught a glance of it out of the corner of her eye before turning towards it fully, eyes widening slightly when it let out a shrill sound, one that immediately reminded her of some kind of alarm. "Disregard. This is definitely something." She called out over her shoulder as suddenly more and more of the little mechanical creatures scampered out of the darkness and towards her. She swung her sword at any that came too close, but there were simply too many, and soon she found herself too overwhelmed to fight, and under full attack. With a curse under her breath and a beat of her wings, and one last swing of her short sword, she turned and made for a hasty retreat, grabbing for one of Meng's arms as she passed to pull him along with her.
