DEATH BECOMES YOU

gaia_crown [ LOCATION ]

    Aokigahara, Japan

gaia_crown [ SETTING ]

"The forest of Aokigahara is known as a place that draws from both urban legends and lore, as well as modern fact- a place of death and suicide, people go in, intending to end their lives. As a result hunters regularly go in and either pose as civilians and act to curb those who seek death, or they go in and gather remains, returning them to local officials under the guise of a volunteer group. Anything they can do to try and curb the ever growing perpetuation of FEAR the forest generates from it's notoriety. The land is quiet and has few animal inhabitants. Yet the lack of human intrusion in many parts has made it relatively difficult to trek once off of paths- a fact that poses no problem to the veteran horseman. Hunters reside in small units scattered through the forest, using high grade mobile barrier daggers and gear to protect themselves from the occasionally FEAR saturated forest. "

gaia_crown [ MISSION ]

The forest itself is a place that draws in death of humans naturally. The hunters have long fought a losing battle here in attempting to stem the flow of FEAR from these woods yet now is an opportune moment to strike. Humans are awash in hopelessness as their control of their world slips out from under them; the sound of death calls them like a siren's song. The hunters here will come if they see humans on the move, attempting to save them from their own fate. Herd the humans to their demise to draw the hunters from the safety of their hidden little hole of shields, and destroy them.

gaia_crown [ MECHANICS ]

Stage 1: Drawing out the Hunters

Roll 1d20 for encounters - after three humans have been herded to the woods, proceed to Stage 2.

  1. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  2. Hunter Encounter! The hunter was scouting the woods and has spotted you. Move onto Stage 2 Immediately!
  3. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  4. A gun, empty sits next to single spent bullet. Oddly, there is no body near it.
  5. The sounds of a group of humans in the distance calling for someone. They are trying to save a lost soul and thus, are not prime targets. Best to keep moving.
  6. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  7. Signs of Life- tags on the trees show humans that have walked these paths before..yet none are here now. Unfortunate.
  8. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  9. Hunter Encounter! The hunter was scouting the woods and has spotted you. Move onto Stage 2 Immediately!
  10. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  11. An abandoned car on the side of a small dirt road- It looks to have been there a while, and an empty infant's car seat sits in the back.
  12. Hunter Encounter! The hunter was scouting the woods and has spotted you. Move onto Stage 2 Immediately!
  13. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  14. A small bouquet of flowers sits near a oddly shaped stone. There are no words. Only the flowers- white lilies- that perhaps hint to the meaning of this offering.
  15. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  16. A man with a gunshot wound lays on his back, expression shocked. He must be freshly dead, as few flies have found his corpse. No gun is nearby yet the wound is distinct in it's human origins.
  17. Hunter Encounter! The hunter was scouting the woods and has spotted you. Move onto Stage 2 Immediately!
  18. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...
  19. A well decayed corpse clatters as your foot collides with bone. There is nothing left to really hint who this might have been- other than a very broken pair of glasses and a small now damaged journal rendered illegible by weather and rot.
  20. Human Encounter! Coax them gently into the woods and urge them to do commit their final act...

Stage 2: Killing the Hunters

Hunters come in sets of three. Their combined HP pool is 120, though every 40 damage you deal means 1 hunter has been killed.

Having spotted you the hunters begin their offensive, and do 3 damage for each turn. After you take out one group... dark you return to exploring to draw out more?

If you feel up to the challenge, return to stage 1 and herd more humans. Repeat as many times as you like. This mission is considered complete after you have eliminated 1 hunter group minimum.

gaia_crown [ BONUS MECHANICS ]

All Elder horsemen may skip to stage two if they so wish after 1 human encounter, their skills allowing them to herd more than 1 human at a time.

Please apply these bonuses based on your clan:

    • Conquest: So long as all 3 are alive, you do +2 damage to each successful hit.
    • Famine: Last Man standing- When the Last hunter remains, dish out +1 damage for each successful hit.
    • War: Fearsome Screech- Letting out a battle cry in the silent forest causes the hunters to be alarmed, stopping them from damaging you every 5 turns.
    • Death: Natural bonus! +1 to damage for each successful hit.

gaia_crown [ REWARDS ]

+1 Additional RP point for completion

It was suggested to Shaheen that she should not attempt to do this task on her own, as it was one rife with difficulty and the potential to be overwhelmed by hunter numbers, but she would hear none of it. She was Shaheen an Elder Chieftain of War (no matter whether she took some silly test or not, having proving herself long ago). She feared no human, and certainly not those who dressed themselves in white and gold. In fact, this all sounded like an ideal opportunity to prove herself once more, and also one to brag about later to her dearest companion Shikoba.

Oh how she would lord her accomplishments over him when she succeeded (there were no ifs about it).

Stepping through the portal despite the warnings and protests from the horseman overseeing those who were sent out on tasks, she was eager to get herself started.

She could sense the Fear the moment she got to the other side.

It was absolutely intoxicating, and she delighted in it, gravitating towards the forest with barely a thought, hand reaching to the nearest tree, fingers stroking against it with a certain fondness. Clearly, this was a sacred place, one of terror and demise, and she was here to use it, to wield it's power and lure out the hunters from their little hide-y holes, and destroy them.

She couldn't wait to get started.

In a place such as this, it was not surprising to Shaheen in the slightest that it was so easy to find humans that were willing to sacrifice themselves. There was just so much misery and despair, the air was absolutely thick with it, and the war woman could have sat there to drink it all in for ages. But no, she had a job to do, and as much as she was enjoying this heady sensation of Fear and despondency, the promise of an encounter with the wretched white maggots was more then enough to get her moving along with the plan.

With whispered words of encouragement in three separate humans ears, all seemed to be going as planned. They followed her as though she were their shepherd, and she supposed in a way that she was. Death might have been destroyed, (or more likely, contained, as Medea had admitted early on that she would not be able to do more then that), but his legacy would live on, and Shaheen would gladly provide just what he stood for to these fluffy little sheep.

The followed her into the woods without a fuss, their faces varying in forms of grief, dejection and torment. It was delightful.

And there they were. The hunters had been drawn out like bee's to the honey, but Shaheen was not nearly so sweet as the smile she leveled on them when she turned towards them, her sword raised, her golden eyes glinting with a fervent need. A need to kill, to dismember and destroy. She would be the end of them.

Without further thought or hesitation, she attacked, throwing herself into the midst of all three and swinging and parrying and dodging blows for all she was worth.

It had perhaps been a little foolish of her after all to proceed with this little endeavor on her own, but Shaheen had never been one to think things through too carefully, more often relying on gut instincts and frivolous whims.

Even if it was a little overwhelming, it was still fun.

With blows raining down on her, Shaheen became aware that it might not be a bad idea to utilize that Fear that was so thick in the air, her sword beginning to glow with a white hot light before she stabbed it into the nearest hunter, a wild glint in her eye before she pulled it back again.

She could feel that his shield had nearly broken upon the impact. This one was close to falling.

And then back to swinging her sword with wild abandon, hoping to cut them down, intent on their collective deaths.

At this point, Shaheen shook off her attackers, and let out a wild cry, one that pierced the very heavens and shook the leaves from the trees. It was a battle cry, the cry of war, and while the hunters stood stunned and taken aback she attacked once more, her sword thrusting clean through one hunter as his shield went down.

She gave a satisfied smirk before she leapt back, flinging the blood from her sword with a simple flick of her wrist.

"Who's next?" She hissed at the remaining two.

This time when she attacked, her sword began to glow a dull yellow, near to the golden of her own eyes. She drove her sword into one of the two remaining hunters with a two handed grip, offering him a cruel smile and a bark of laughter.

Now cackling like mad, her face flecked with blood from her single kill (so far) Shaheen was completely relentless. They might have been tiring but she felt like she had only just begun.

While she knew that her Fear shield was taking a beating, so far Shaheen was not tiring, her sword striking true with every swing. She knew she could do this, she had to be able to do this. What further proof could anybody need that she was meant to be a chieftain? That the title belonged to her?

Perhaps she was beginning to weaken. She was still able to summon the Fear to her aid, but it was not like before, her attack weaker when she struck, her sword breaking through the hunters shield, but only barely, and with much effort on her part.

Still she laughed. Still she spit at the ground where he landed when he slid from the blade.

Two down, and one left to go. Her eyes met that of a woman, shorter then Shaheen, auburn of hair, her own weapon a sword of much greater size then the one Shaheen wielded.

She did not look afraid, however. The hunters so often did not emote Fear.

Shaheen licked her lips and tasted blood.

"What hope do you believe you have here, hunter?" She asked, as golden eyes began to glow softly, and the air around Shaheen began to shimmer.

Within a moment, Shaheen was gone, and in her place stood a massive lion, one that let out a blood curdling roar the moment it stood on four legs, taking a step towards the hunter, who's eyes had opened in surprise, finally registering that hint of Fear that Shaheen so longed for.

Golden eyes still glowed, and now, so did wickedly long, sharp teeth, her lip pulled back to reveal them as she continued to snarl.

And then the gigantic lioness lunged at the hunter, maw agape, teeth still aglow as she tore into the hunter, absorbing the Fear from the woman's shield even while the she hunter screamed and beat at Shaheen with her weapon.

Somehow the huntress managed to pry Shaheen off of her, and when the lioness lunged again, she found a sword blade chopping down on her nose.

With a howl of rage, she swiped at the blade with claws extended, knocking it to the side, but her own opportunity for attack ruined.
