History

Dvergrheim was taken.

Not by choice nor by simple abandonment - but it was simply gone when the earth moved again. Although not unkind to the dwarves, the Aberdere Range took Dvergrheim as it's own as recompense for the years the dwarves lived therer. Some said it was the arrogance of Thrain, father of Thorin and Oin. Others said it was a sign the pride enraged the earth goddess.

The Dwarven King, Thorin, however, suspected it was a combination, when he saw the dwarves escape - perhaps they were too harsh on their women. As the pride fled rumbling and falling stone, the pride women made as valiant, if not more valiant calls to arms to save the very old, very young, and very weak. For as the men were to be compassionate pillars, the women had magic in the home, and could that not mean that an unconscious spell has been cast by some long-dead woman seeking vengeance? Was Clan Sigourney, most decimated by disaster, leaderless?

As time passed the Dvergr milled. Some were scattered. Some held to their king, waiting for answers. Waiting for he and Queen Aanga to return.

Thorin emerged with a plan and took all whom would follow into a search for shelter, and, to the surprise of many, it came in the form of a clan of Alfr often seen but never trusted. The Sidthe, the elf-clan born nearby, had come looking for trade and, as often the case, to take cubs, and finding the dwarves scattered and broken, the Sidthe brought them into their forest and offered the battered pride protection.

As they healed, Thorin planned, and finally he sought the old tales to find a new place in the mountains for the pride - caves upon untapped caves thought to be in the tip, still in range of a Sidthe for certain, but he learned of space - desperately needed by the Dvergr if they were to heal - and put his plans in action. Gathering the few survivors, Thorin began a journey to the new dens, and only time will tell what the ancient ruins of the caverns will hold.

Traditions and Culture

Although traditionally each clan has their own independent traditions, some things have melted into the entire pride as a whole.

Royalty
All Kings or Queens inheriting must be from the royal line and will traditionally be the eldest. Formerly, this was the eldest son, however, the Eldest Daughter may, in cases the Eldest son is unfit, be trained along with her brother. No longer a sure thing, the eldest male and eldest female must prove their worth to the pride and the Council in some way. Often this is through a battle with the council or impressing the elders.

Gemborn
Naturally, the dwarves favor stone colours - browns, greys, blacks, some whites, and small amounts of gold, hoever unnatural pelts happen, especially with rogue blood. While frowned upon, especially by older members, some will be valued as resembling lapis, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. Desaturated tones will remain watched with no small disdain, however a very bright, shining pelt is often favored by some as a token of luck. As the Queen and her sister are both bright, they are gleaming examples of this trait and considered highly.

Mine...Craft.

Obvious joke aside (I apologize), dwarves are obsessive hoarders, likely why clan Dracen is considered the Dragon Clan. Dwarves will obsessively seek ores and gems from the caverns, and try finding ways to craft them into treasures. This art is now custody of the Smiths as able, whom will in turn create cloaks, jewels, and treasures to share with the pride and their allies. There are many ways for dwarves to create and they live to... Well, dig.

Strength.

The Dwarves are battle fiends and combat junkies. War? Yespls. Battle? You betcha. They do not seek trouble, but will not run from afight. Scars are points of pride, and those brave and strong often get rewarded - this includes when Dvergrheim was lost - when women were given the right to stand with the men as Matriarchs, and the Hobbits rewarded a clan. While weakness is not a cause for exile, it is not often smiled on - it is also worth noting age does not mean weakness, as our eldrs are, in fact, wisest. To this end, the Dvergr consider weaknes to be weakness of spirit, the cowardly and the ilke. It will be much harder to matye as a weaker dwarf, as females are held to the same standard, anymore, and few sre cast out.

Hobbits, Hybrids, and the Alfr

For a long time now, Leopards are considered the Hobbots, a sort of fuzzy, almost-dwarf that was taken into the dwarves' care early on. The hobbots for a long time were clanless in their homes, but for courage during the Catastrophe in Dvergrheim, the Hobbits were granted a clan and say. While Leopard-Dwarf hybrids are rare, they happen and are not often considered odd. Fertile hybrids, while rare, are encouraged to breed one OR the other species - however Hybrid x Hybrid has yet to occur.

Relting to the Alfr is often difficult and intense. Alfr are known for vanity, and cubsnatching, and often the Alfr are considered pests, however with the recent help during the lowest time the dwarves faced, while not welcomed, rarely, the Alfr are tolerated as members - only in the Hobbits' Shire. While young Cheetahs (Cub and Adolescent) are invited more out of kindnes and taught tradition, adults are often treated with suspicion. It is unheard of for Dvergr to be fertile with Alfr, but, it may yet occur. Known Cheetah-Lion hybrids are in fact consiudered skinny, underfed dwarves, or fluffy elves, depending upon build.

b[]Alliances and Rogues
After moving, the Dvergr were faced with the outside world and found more prides to exist. Although still fiercely paranoid of outsiders, alliances can be made, such as the extremely tentative alliance with the Sidthe. Lion prides and leopard clans are usually favored and dwarves and hobbits may journey to such places to seek a mate or a one night roll in the hay (As some dwarves are apt to do - don't deny it), and in these times the fresh blood is craved.

Rogue lions and leopards are always welcome, though rogue cheetahs muse prove loyalty, or be brought in as young due to long-standing, inborn distrust of most Alfr. Much like visiting allied prides or even new ones, rogue breeding is acceptable. For reasons. (Read: Some dwarves simply don't marry well. Hello Mazatl.)

Marriage and Breeding
Dwarves are not bound by gender when marrying - males may marry males and females can marry females, and one will chose to be the 'wife', and tend the hearth and home. In these times, male-female couples may still choose, but traditional, old-blooded dwarves may prefer to keep old gender roles.

When a dwarf or hobbit has a litter, commonly, they will favor Nordic names, Germanic names, and as few syllables as possible. Names with spaces or over 4 syllables are considered too flowery and more fitting to Alfr than a Dwarf, and are thought to be weak. A rare few my choose gaelic names to thank the Sidthe secretly, but this is not common.

Example common dwarven or hobbit names may be Thorin, Thrain, Oin, Dorin, or Cedwyn.
Example names considered elvish are Ntkiwa'Aoika, Jeima'kinundr, ETC.

Rogues of course can have any name desired, and usually do not change - a strong example is the former rogue Man'Tah, whom since proved strength saving as many of igourney she could, and so forth.

The Clans

Royalty
While not formally a clan, the Royal Family fills this clan with the pride King and Queen, and the eldest Son and Daughter. Other children of the royal line fall back to Clan Ulf by default, but may choose another clan.

Ulf
The clan from which the ?King is through to descend from, the clan Ulf is the Clan most like the overall pride, and the Leadership passes from Father to Eldest son and his mate accordingly. Should the eldest mate the Queen, then his second eldest son will inherit. Barring that, the eldest daughter will take over.

Clan Schatzi
Guided by Dahabu-Ausi, Schatzi was once a very greedy, gem-hunting clan that since came to value love over possessions. Polygamy is both allowed and welcome in this clan, and large families are encouraged among members. Traditionally it is unknown how the Patriarch will pass his role yet, but, it is to occur.

Clan Dracen
Originally a common clan of dwarves, the patterns and marks of dragons since seized the clan. While not all are marked, it is most common here and many other dwarves are often suspicious of the hotblooded dragon-dwarves. Dracen is one of the clans to value a challenge and trength, and those of the clan will often fight for sport and fun. The patriarchyor Matriarchy succession is yet unknown.

Clan Haldis

Haldis values strength above all, and as such, Haldis often willingly brings in new blood and spars amidst themselves. Rough and tumble, Haldis is expected to survive.

Clan Gisli

Hale and hearty, clan Gisli is one of the clans least harmed by catastrophe. Many have begun considering Gisli to be lucky, or perhaps simply in the right places at the right times. Succession rites vary, but it happens - differently often each time.

Clan Sigourney

Thin and battered, Sigourney was salvaged by the efforts of a female dwarf named Man'Tah, whom was born outside. Fierce, dedicated to survival, and the most lax of clans, Thorin welcomed Man'Tah as the first clan Matriarch, despite fears gainst it. Sigourney is brave, loyal, and just to all, and succession will come of the Matriarch's litter. While no great clan, Sigourney is easily accessible to rogues whom welcome them.

Clan Thorae

This clan, new to the pride, consists of hobbits and Elves that re accepted, and some hybrids if not in a dwarven clan. They lack a patriarch or matriarch, instead relying on an Elder to guide and speak for them. Thorae will often hold no tradition beyond what each member wishes, and the Elder is often chosen by the last elder from the fit of the clan.

Ranks

[King/Queen
The ruling pair. Currently held by Anga and Thorin, the royal family is ultimately responsible for the entire pride, though they seek council from the Cln Leaders as appropriate often.

Heir/Heiress
The Prince and Princess eing trained to rule. Decided by age, the Heir and Heiress are a pair and will determine leadership[ by proving themselves to the pride.

Patriarch/Matriarch[/Elder

Patriarchs and Matriarchs as well as the Elder are leaders of their respective clans. While at current most are males, these leaders may now share power with their mate to co-lead the clan as a pair and hold say in the Council with the King. So too, does the Elder - the oldest Hobbit and a chosen mate whom speak for the hobbits and rare Alfr in-pride. Each clan chooses successors and has succession in their own times and by their own rites, and any lion or leopard or RARELY cheetah may ascend. Hybrids too, may become such a leader, but it is significantly more difficult.

Warrior
The default dwarven rank for all males and females as lions.

Storyteller

Th Storytellers keep old pride stories, pride and clan lore, and the like alive. Teachers to all, many, but not all, are old and may have difficulty fighting. Similarly, non-combative, shrp minds with no creative skill may end up here.

Brewer

Brewers grow n**. For a lack of a tactful description, Brewers re why some dwarves are drunk, and thery keep ample supply year round. They say there's flavors, like Dwarven Stout, and the like, but only a dwarf or hobbit can really tell.

Smith
Smiths create for the pride - from cloaks to tooks to jewelry, if it can be made, the smiths made it sometime. Dwarven Crafts are stark compared to many and often of high quality. In exchange the items are often made as heirlooms for dwarves to pass on.

Wives
Wives are a mated lion with little to do outside the home - often by choice. They raise cubs and tend the den itself, and an angry wife is a dangerous wife. Although outsiders might find them treated unfairly the wife holds power of divorce, and power at home. Seriously. Nobody smart angers a wife.

Hobbit

The only rank available to leopards. Generally, hobbits are not expected to be quite as vicious as dwarves, though some may be, and the Dvergr often consider them to eat a good deal. Otherwise Hobbits do as they like and enjoy an easy life.

Alfr

Elves. The only rank a cheetah can hold, and new at that. Alfr aren't expected to do anything and are considered very, very flamboyant. Really, look at those dainty legs.

New Territory

Ther Dvergr territory spans at the edge of the Abedere Range near a valley and a volcano. The mountain they chose itself was checked and durable to earthquakes The range itself was made up of many smaller caverns fit for a clan - there are the dens for the royal family, and five smaller cave-cities for the dwarven clans. Outside on the grass and trees in comfortable caves leopards and any cheetahs are capable of resting comfortably in sunlight or darkness as desired.

Each miniature clan-cavbern is considered a small city - all leading to a larger cavern tied to the royal dens that is considered the 'capital', although all dwarves may be there for anything.

Schatzi's 'City' is often sprawling and large to accomodate the large families and community associated. As such it can almost be considered a web, and as such it is called Goldweb.

For their strength and courage Haldis is afforded plenty to explore and seek, not boasting only ores but unexplored dens and signs of the dwarves to live there before. Haldis also comes closest to the Aegnor volcano, neccesitating an alliance between prides. Still, for the brave Haldis lion, this is hardly a concern. The Haldis 'city' is called Magmaholme.

Proud Dracen has the second most coveted dens. Laced with gems and pelts abound, Dracen's city is fit for a dragon with ores, treasures, and similar bursting from the walls in an untouched, unkempt array ready to pluck for years to come. There are ledges to peer over the primary cavern in secret and tunnels for hiding, and areas open to the sun for sunning. The 'city' of clan Dracen is appropriately Drachemere.

Gisli is busy and prosperous. The dens are open to exploration and to socializing and guests can visit readily. The dens are clean and there is ample to do, especially to grow n**. Gisli is comfortable, stable, and safe. The city of Gisli is called Ironwind.

Sigourney offers comfortable dens and ample space to grow, both as a clan and in tradition. Even at full the dens offer ample accoustics, space to grow n**, and areas to experiment with new, exciting traditions yet to be seen by the dwarves. The city of Sigourney is often called Stormfall.

The Dvergr 'capital' or main den is a mass of caves and dens for visitors, dwarves, lessons, and such, as well as gatherings, song - anything the pride needs whole and more. Small gaps allow a view of the stars and the pride itself visits almost daily to see one another eagerly. While it is no Dvergrheim, it is the ruins lore spoke of. The capital is called Dvergrhohlen.

Pride/Pack History: The Dwarves were scattered with the loss of Dvergrheim to the Aberdere Range. Homeless and lost, those whom held to the pride fled as their leader did - many becoming heroes among the Dvergr, and as the pride roamed they took sanctuary among the Alfr, the Cheetahs living nearby. Through their oral traditions they learned of a new place in the mountains, a home to go to, to find safety and warmth. So, the battered and tired King Thorin and his Wife Queen Aanga gathered the dwarves and began pilgrimage to these new dens, new caves to explore and examine, and found the Dvergr a new home. The hobbits loyal were granted their own clan, to prevent the ire of ancient gods or spirits; and women granted right to join the Patriarchs as Matriarchs for their heroism and courage. The future is uncertain, but the Dvergr do not intend to die again.
