Vittorio looked at himself in a pool of collecting water outside of his families den and frowned. No matter how hard he trained, worked, and fought his mane was always a little too perfect. The male was already picked on by the other males over his stature, which was something he had no control over (Dawnwalkers had just been smaller, after all!), and his lighter colors. It didn't help that he had a quick temper that brought him into more fights than was really necessary.

Every time his masculinity was questioned, Vittorio rose to the challenge, and even if he did win he didn't come out of the scrap clean. His white coat was scarred, bloody and all around gross. But his mane. Even with the humidity and rain it fell around his shoulders like lilac silk. The lion tugged at the strands.

Well, at least he still had Liran and Mirashi at his back.

Liran had been out in the pride, looking around out of curiousity. He didn't know many people there yet, but he had made a few friends. He had even convinced one of the guys to let him come out viking with him! He'd gotten his reaver status now, which was pretty exciting. He grinned, unable to wait to talk to Vittorio. They hadn't spoken much recently, because they were both so busy, but he was sure his brother would be proud of him.

He noticed a familiar figure, also on the way back to the den. "Hey Mirashi," Liran called out to his brother's mate. They had a weird relationship, but Vittorio always seemed to dote on her, so surely they were mates.

Mirashi, who had been collecting herbs to make a perfume, glanced up at the sound of her name. "Hello Liran," she responded, but didn't attempt to make conversation further. Despite being in a new pride, Mirashi still had little interest in making friends - even with the friends she had come with.

She continued to walk back to the den, this time with Liran padding along beside her chattering away about something. She wasn't really paying attention.

She frowned as she approached the den though. Vittorio had more scars and bruises on his form. Great. Though Mirashi wouldn't say it out loud, she was worried about the pale figure. No one took Liran seriously enough to get into fights with him, thinking him a fool, but Vittorio took it all personally .

"Vittorio," she greeted, her voice a little terse, her concern making her uncomfortable and her uncomfortableness making her colder.

He had been busily attempting to scrub a stain from his fur when Vittorio look to the approaching figures of his mate and brother. Looking back down to his paw he saw it to be dried blood that had evidently caked itself in rather deep. It was almost as dark as the slate on the cliffs they now called home.

"Welcome home." Vittorio smiled hesitantly. There was something off about the vague timber in Mirashi's voice that put him on edge. Was she coming down with an illness? "I swear if I don't find a Reaving band soon I'm going to go insane. I need a break from these meat heads to do some real action."

And a break from fighting. He already had a steadily growing reputation for being a scrapper, something of which wasn't tolerated unless he was a Reaver. If he just had the title it would all go away, anyway! He would be respected then.

Velvie:
"You should have come with us, Vittorio!" Liran suggested cheerfully, he had stopped singing everything though he still sung most things, he could actually hold a conversation now...which was useful. He had a feeling that he would never be taken seriously if he sung whilst viking. Though he still did it...a lot. Those he had gone with had not been overly impressed with him, but that was ok. He had gotten his Reaver status, and that was all that mattered. "You didn't get hurt again did you?" Liran asked, peering at the blood stains in the pale fur. He was worried about Vitorrio...this place didn't seem to fit him as well as Liran thought it would...

Mirashi glanced at the dried blood with a frown, but she didn't comment. Instead she simply walked into the back of the den, leaving the boys to talk for a few moments as she fussed with a few things. It took her a little while before she moved back from the den out to where they sat together. Without a word, she tipped a gord onto Vittorio's stain - the water and herbs acting as a kind of soap to help lift the stain. Mirashi was not one for fussing over people - this was probably as close to that as she was going to get.

Moose:
It was so odd to hear Liran actually talking that it threw Vittorio for a loop. There was something pulling at his heartstrings to hear it; a mournful kind of tug that saw his bro changing to fit the pride. But it was the chipper little thing he said that had Vittorio pausing. “Go with you where, Liran?” Surely…? No, no way!

He brushed his fur back and clucked his tongue. “Me? No way, this all came from the other guy.” Which, some of it did, but not nearly as much as he would have liked. The male had to admit, seeing Mirashi brush it off, though was kind of disheartening, but sort of normal. Her coming back, though, surprised him as much as the idea of Liran become a Reaver before him. Did he hit his head…? He hissed through his teeth and turned to look at whatever Mirashi had dumped onto his wounded fur. It wasn’t a big cut, but….s**t, this was kind of nice.

Velvie:
Liran grinned, excited to talk to Vittorio about his viking. "On my viking!" He enthused. "I went with the guy that I beat to get into the pride and a few other guys. One of the guys wants to be a Captain I think, he was really good. The other guy that went with us - he was an adol. He got TWO thralls from the viking! It was crazy." Liran bounced excitedly.

Mirashi stared at him for a moment, watching the wounded fur run with the water that she threw. She wasn't sure why she did that... She just didn't want blood to stain his fur. She huffed a little, and went to sit at the mouth of the den, still unable to say anything to him

Moose:
Vittorio gagged on his own spit. His heart lurched from within his chest, unsure if it were to play dead with the rest of his senses or speed up to match his surprised nerves. “…That’s…wow.” He sat back, unconsciously leaning into Mirashi’s touch, and shook his head with a little unsure smile. I must really suck at this. “G-great job, Liran, that’s really awesome. You brought an adol with you?” And not me? “Must have been scary for the kid, but he’ll have a big head down that he’s got two thralls under his fur, huh?” He gave a chortle, but it didn’t hold half his usual enthusiasm.

Turning his head he watched Mirashi and looked away, before looking back to her. “What do you think, Mirashi? Should I go on a reaving next? Bring us back a thrall or two to help you with perfumes?”

Velvie:
Liran bounced eagerly. "Yeah, it was good fun! The adol did really well, actually. He was a really good tracker. I'm not very good at it, I got chased by a hippo, but it was still fun! Not sure if I'm in a rush to go back out yet, but it's interesting out there now that we're vikings, not just rogues!" He grinned, completely unaware of his brother's apparent turmoil. He was just cheerful.

Mirashi glanced at Vittorio when he spoke to her and frowned. "I do not desire a thrall," she murmured simply. "It is not my place to put anyone into servatude. Perfumes are to be savoured, not slaved over." She hated the thralls here. They made her uncomfortable. She glanced at his wounds again, glancing at his fur and the stains. "Do you really wish to risk your life for a title?" She didn't understand why he needed to be a reaver. Freeborns were perfectly fine.

Moose:
A hippo? Did Liran even realize how dangerous those fat asses were? He frowned, pursing up his lips like their mother used to before shaking it out. We’re. Yeah, Vittorio didn’t much feel like a Viking when all he did was get into fights while his brother, the singer, was actually doing stuff.

“Give me some credit, alright? Like I’d ever put someone in invisible chains.” He shivered. There had been plenty of that in the rogue lands, with lions stuck in actual shackles after breaking away from “two leggers”. It was sickening. Although, Vittorio couldn’t say he wouldn’t be along for the ride if it got him a better position…”If it means giving our family a better life, then yes, I’ll put my life on the line for a better position. This isn’t the Dawnwalkers; if I don’t fight and put myself out there then I’m never going to be any better than the thralls.” Catching himself, he turned sharply towards her, lowering his ears. “T-that is, I know I can do better to provide for us, is all.”

Velvie:
Mirashi bristled at his comment. "You just asked if I wanted a thrall, and now you claim you would never put someone in invisible chains? You contradict yourself. If you claim a thrall, that's all that you're doing." She narrowed her eyes. "Why do you have to fight? Do you think I am weak because I am not a reaver, I am only a freeborn? Am I nothing better than a thrall, because I do not fight?" That was a dangerous question to ask, she knew, and she almost didn't want to know his answer. She stood up, and stalked over to him. "You are not our sole provider. WE are in a pride. You have FAMILY. You do not need to do everything. If YOU get yourself killed, WE are worse off. Think about that before you go spouting off about vikings and reavers." She narrowed her eyes at him.

She didn't mind if Liran went viking - he was so childish he rarely put himself in danger unless it was accidental. Vittorio seemed like he had something to prove, and that might just get him killed.

"Excuse me, I'm going to look for fragrances," she said firmly, and stormed off.

-

Liran shrunk back when Mirashi began her rant, surprised because he realised this was the most she had spoken in a long while. Woops! Maybe he should leave while they were having a little couples fight...he wasn't sure what to do, because they were blocking the den where he could go and hide...ahhh, this was why he wasn't in a relationship. Women were terrifying.

Moose:
“It’s not the same.” Even the expression he wore said he knew that was total bullshit. They were slaves, nothing more, and most of the females in the position were treated as little more than breeders. “Mirashi, I never said any of that. I’ve never told you that you were anything less for not fighting. I’m just-“ He had been trying to run over the conversation, like he always did, because as far as Vittorio was concerned he WAS the sole provider. The head; the patriarch. And her words made him bristle. He was equally shamed and infuriated. “Don’t you think I know what I have? I’m doing this for YOU. So that my FAMILY will acknowledge me, so that maybe YOU will acknowledge that I’m doing something good for us!” Vittorio snarled. “My family never took survival seriously; it’s all sunshine and daisies, so why SHOULDN’T I be the one to make sure they have a full belly and safe place to sleep?” Who did she think provided the meat she ate, or the dry dens she slept in?

As she stormed off, he couldn’t help but to bellow, “Why is it that the one ******** time you show me any kind of affection you’re mad at me?!”

Turning on his paw Vittorio stormed off as well, heading in the opposite direction, with a bleeding heart and a thirst to prove her wrong.
