The Attendant was always proud of his rank, and he liked being able to tell others that he was still the right paw lion to the King, because he was! He had been in this position for most of his life, though he had never really understood it was because the King had been a bit soft hearted with him and his sister.

To him, he had been given a very special duty and he was determined to carry it out, and make sure everyone around him knew just what it was he was doing.

What was he doing?

Right now... nothing. He was not on a task related to the King and, really, never was. Bwana generally let Leta do whatever he wanted, and hardly ever ordered him around or made him act like a servant, though Leta always bent over backwards to do more than he was asked for, anyway. Kalenda always seemed irritated when he was around, though that was another thing Leta had never really understood. The Queen was a royal, of course, and had every right not to talk to him if she did not want to. He was beneath her.

Sitting atop a nice, warm rock, Leta closed his eyes and took a deep breath of the new day that was dawning around him. Okay, it was almost after the highest peak of the sun, pushing the day into the afternoon, but for him it was only just starting, and he was ready to go out there and meet it with enthusiasm and, of course, while staying true to his duties.
