Personalities:

Aakil: Somewhat boyish, he's a bit of a plotter--devious, with a sense of humor that leans on the twisted side. Respecter of rules, breaker of them behind closed doors. He enjoys anything or anyone who seems complex, but his own complexity is muddled by a simple point of view. It doesn't take much to amuse him. He likes to play the "let's try and get under this person's skin without them realizing it" game, revealing some sadistic tendencies. His interest in fighting is borderline abnormal, but it usually reads as him just wanting to hone his skills for the greater good--and hey, what's wrong with that? He wants to be trusted and respected (his desire for validation has haunted him since childhood), but unfortunately for him, he has the image of being a loose cannon.

Tariq: Brusque with no patience for jokes. He's more on the quiet side, but when he does speak his voice is incredibly deep and growling, as if a lion were speaking human language. He doesn't often lose his temper, as he's the smoldering type, but he's more than capable of "unleashing the beast" when he needs to. At his core he is a creature of violence, but he's strangely like Aakil's voice of reason. Unfortunately, however, the two often fall into a trap of feeding off each other's violent tendencies and end up egging each other on.



Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter?

Aakil has been dealing with the "paranormal" for as long as he can remember. As a very small child he suffered from frequent night terrors and nightmares. He had ended up believing that the source was coming from his parents' refrigerator. His parents had thought that he was becoming a weird and obsessive kid in those early years, especially when he started refusing to eat anything from the fridge, as well as keep himself awake through the night. The child therapist they had eventually contacted couldn't help. Some time after, the refrigerator inexplicably exploded at breakfast time, leaving Aakil an orphan to be raised by family friends. He won't eat anything from a fridge to this day. He maintains an abnormal sleeping schedule (mild insomnia, but he'll refuse that's the case) still, but not consistently. His nightmares and terrors became less and less frequent over the years, but now and then he'd still feel something from a person or a place that'd give him a childhood flashback of gross unease and shiny, menacing refrigerators...
Being raised by family friends was difficult for him and the couple who brought him up (and more than one couple had a hand in raising him, truth be told--"it takes a village," as it were), but they like to think he turned out all right. They signed him up for a wide variety of extra-curricular activities over the years, including a brow-quirking amount of martial arts, swimming, and track and field. He was a perfect angel at his activities, but stories of him getting into a multitude of fights at school circulated throughout his academic career even through college, although no one ever officially spoke out against him, so he never got into any real trouble...
He was graduated and jobless by the time he was scouted out by Deus, and as far as he was concerned, being a Hunter was his dream job (not to mention it offered him a heaping pile of validation)--training up to his eyeballs, physical combat, all the sparring he could get, magic runes (cool as hell), and snuffing out monsters with bad-a** weapons, there must be a God.

Hey! Wasn't sure if you were looking for crit yet, but I thought I'd give you some things to tweak!

Nothing wrong with the weapon or the FEAR power!

I conferred with a GM on your character's history.. and it's a bit too overt to have the hunters parents killed by a suspiciously (haunted or cursed obviously) exploding refrigerator. It's taboo for Halloween influence/creatures to murder humans and you would have to have special permission for that. Feel free to kill his parents off, but not in an obviously supernatural way.

He may have a hard time eating and living on Deus if he doesn't eat out of a refrigerator but that is a perfectly acceptable phobia.

My only other criticism, personality-wise, is to revise it slightly. I see some inconsistencies in how he acts and how you'd like him to appear, but you can't really determine how he appears to others until others meet him. I would revise this to emphasize how he'd like to appear and not dictate how he looks to others (because some may see through his charades! the island is full of psychopaths!).
