NUCLEAR REACTION (PART 1)

gaia_crown [ LOCATION ]

    Chernobyl, Ukraine (1 of 2)

gaia_crown [ SETTING ]

"The site of the Chernobyl Disaster, the abandoned city has long been a place of renown. However it maintains gated fences to keep out would be thrill seekers and riffraff. The hunter base here is small and constantly cycles the one manning it. However there are numerous traps laid across the area for FEAR creatures such a horsemen, and the one hunter in charge of the base is nothing to shake a stick at. The buildings overgrowth, and the general lack of FEAR from anyone nearby means for horsemen it's not a cake walk- they'll be on their own.

The hunter has taken refuge in an abandoned children's school, the posters and drawings tainted and worn with age, color faded and muted. Yet everything is small here, and the halls don't allow for flight or much mobility. Plus the scattered debris of tiny desks and school supplies mean that the floor itself is a hazard for running. The playground outside is no better, brush making the ground difficult to tread and trees making the sky near impossible to gain advantage. The Hunter has the advantage of knowing the paths, but you have the advantage of sheer power. The key shall be mastering one's use of FEAR in..explosive ways."

gaia_crown [ MISSION ]

A city abandoned by humans due to their own foolishness, it now stands and rots from it's very core. Hunters have long held a small base here and have always changed who stays-making their defenses weak, we can take this place for ourselves Yet there are many traps set up as a precaution. Moving quickly and efficiently go in and get out. Though it cannot harm us, the place has long been devoid of enough humans to be worth investment, and so lacks FEAR to maintain us. Images of rot and decay shall aid you in this day's mission.

gaia_crown [ MECHANICS ]

Roll 1d10 to evade the traps, find the hunter and defeat them! If you run out of HP before finding the hunter or die while fighting the hunter, you've failed and must start over.

  1. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in the playground! (60 HP / 5 autodamage)
  2. A runic dagger attached to a spring is sent flying into your side (-5 HP
  3. Running after the hunter you stumble and fall over a child's desk (-3 HP)
  4. The sound of children's laughter echos down the halls. As you get closer to the hunter you realize it's not coming from them. An odd sense of not being the only one present touched you breifly before vanishing.
  5. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in the hallway!
  6. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in the classroom!
  7. The sound of a siren rings out, loud and too close for comfort. In your shock the hunter manages to get further from your reach, seeming unfazed by the noise.
  8. The tight corner the hunter took came unexpectedly, and you slide into a chalkboard. Aside from the pain you are now dusted white. (-3 HP plus coated in a fine white dust)
  9. A bear trap hidden in old school supplies on the floor, your foot caught burns as the runes drain your FEAR. (-3 HP, roll a 1d6 to escape, even you escape, odd you remain stuck. For each failed roll take -1HP on top of the initial 3)
  10. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in a gym! (60 HP / 5 autodamage)

OPTIONAL CHOICE: After you kill the hunter, you sense a lingering spirit in the school. If you so want, chase the spirit down and either devour them for FEAR or ask them to lead you to the hunter's hidden base. (See part 2 for the bonuses and drawbacks of this OPTIONAL choice)

gaia_crown [ BONUS MECHANICS ]

Please apply these bonuses based on your clan:

    • If gym, winged horsemen do +2 damage for each successful hit being able to slightly fly around. If also horned, the bonus is null.
    • If playground, horned horsemen do +2 damage for each successful hit due to their natural avoidance of spaces that would hinder their headspace (IE jungle gyms). Null if the horseman also has wings.
    • If hallway, horsemen lacking in horns or wings +2 damage for each successful hit due to having no body altering shapes that might obstruct their path.

gaia_crown [ REWARDS ]

+1 rp points for completing it!

Bright and early Nergui would be where they had agreed to meet. Unlike the morning before, she had left behind the flouncy attire, exchanging the lovely dress for something far more practical. Leather, light armor, sensible boots and protective gauntlets that ran from palm to elbow. Silver hair was a bun at the back of her head, stray curls falling free to frame delicate features, but she looked the part of the warrior today, far better than she did as a priestess, but there was still that weight of knowledge that seemed to surround her. Wisdom and experience.

When Kallistrate arrived she, too, looked fully prepared for the mission, although her own leather armor was largely concealed by the drape of dark fabric that she never felt quite clothed without. Her hair was fully as elaborate as usual but piled into intricately-woven coils on top of her head rather than framing her face, the small ornaments in it arranged to avoid making any noise, and she looked, in short, like a person who meant business.

Then again, Kallistrate nearly always looked as though she meant business: there was a certain grim, sneering set to her face that never quite left, and it was in full evidence here. If she was feeling nerves at the idea of entering the field after so long an absence--and after leaving it under such disgrace--none of it showed in her upright bearing and her uplifted chin.

...and the duckling followed in her wake.

It wasn't that Ollie hadn't made an effort. Oh, he had: layers upon layers of travel clothing, bits and pieces of armor here and there beneath his cape, hair tugged into a loose, rumpled tail at the back of his head, and a scarf pulled up tight around his face and mouth. The problem was, perhaps, that he had done too much. Enough so that he looked more like a teapot, or arms poking out of a heavy tent, instead of the intent fighter he'd show himself to be.

He trotted along behind her, his own eyes [the only part of him that showed clearly] bright as they settled on Nergui, a breath of excitement behind what little expression she could see.

He mumbled something in greeting and waved one hand. It was completely muffled by layers of fabric.

Kallistrate was not hard to spot among all the dark brick buildings and smoke that made up the Death level of the tower. Even in dark clothing the mare was a point of light, and Nergui offered a pleased smile as she approached. "Good morning." If the less than sunny expression on pale features was taken personally, the priestess didn't show it.

"You look like you're ready to..." Her voice trailed off as she noticed the darker figure ambling along behind the guardian, and a brow rose up in surprise as recognition hit, and realization followed. "You're his sister, Lala." She sounded amused as her attention slid from the mare tot he colt, and she smiled as she saw that flicker of excitement as their eyes met.

The greeting he offered was completely incoherent, but she offered one back all the same. "Well aren't you a pleasant surprise." And he was, Nergui had had no idea she'd managed to meet both siblings in the same day, or that they were, in fact, siblings. "You're coming, I take it?" It certainly looked that way, and the mare was delighted for his company. Another skilled warrior would only make their mission go that much more smoothly, though she had held every confidence that she and Lala could handle it on their own.

Dipping into another formal, practiced bow, Kallistrate smoothed her sneer into expressionlessness before rising.

"He invited himself," Lala said flatly, giving her brother an intense bit of side-eye. "I decided that it would be a good experience." And she indulged him, and probably wouldn't have been able to talk him out of it anyway, although these things went unspoken. "How wonderful that the two of you have met," she added, just as flatly. It was incredibly difficult to tell whether she was sarcastic or simply unenthusiastic. "Pull down your muffler, Ollie," she added. "Or don't. Perhaps we could enjoy a run-down from the priestess uninterrupted."

There was a pause, a blink of confusion, and then Ollie realized what Lala was telling him -- reaching up to tug the scarf down from his mouth, to blink up at Nergui. His smile was sudden, and bright, and easy, and very white in the darkness of his face.

"We're going to find some humans, right?" It was immediate, curious, his hands spread in a questioning gesture as his eyes flitted from Nergui and Lala. "That's the plan?"

If she noticed Lala's unenthusiastic response to her brother's addition to their party and his and Nergui's previous meeting, it didn't show. The priestess was all indulgent, patient smiles as Ollie did indeed tug down the scarf that had muffled his speak to beam up at her. "We are." She had the urge to reach out, to bump the curve of a knuckle beneath his chin, but she resisted. Instead she placed one small hand on her hip, weight shifting to one side.

"The plan is as follows: We will be entering a long standing Hunter base in a cold climate area near Russia. Are mission is to seek out and destroy the lone Hunter that runs this base, but they will be hard to find, and heavily protected by traps." Not unlike the base she and Wrath had taken down in the hearth of the amazon some months prior. "The base itself is a ruin. Debris is everywhere, buildings over grown. We will be fighting against natural defenses as well as those put in place by the Hunters. Sure footedness and stealth are optimal." It was the bare bones basics for what they would be doing. Nergui would know more once they arrive and she had a good look at what they were up against.

"Are you both ready?"

I THOUGHT I TAGGED SORRY GUYS

"A single Hunter," Lala echoed, with an arrogance that spoke to a youth nearly as tender as Ollie's, in different ways. "I am ready."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 03, 2015 10:12 pm
"Uh huh." Ollie rolled his shoulders, started to lift his scarf up and then paused to grin up at Nergui again. "Can we loot their stuff?"

A knowing smile slid over dark lips at Lala's comment, but she said nothing about it, nodding instead. To Ollie she'd grin in return. "We most certainly can." Should, in fact.

Still smiling she led the way through the portal and out into the over grown ruins that was the town of Chernobyl. They had arrived on the outskirts of the business district of the town, between shops and suburbia. It was utterly quiet, cold, and surreal, but nothing seasoned members of the Death Clan couldn't handle. As a cold wind slithered down the street they were currently standing on Nergui drew the soft fur of her new pelt around her shoulders a little tighter.

Head tilting to one side, the priestess scanned their surroundings. There was a school across the street from them, the swings in the playground rattled softly as they swung in the breeze. "We've received word that the hunter we're searching for is inside that building, but they are heavily guarded by traps, so we'll have to be very vigilant." Mismatched eyes turned to Lala, down to her brother, then forward once again as she started across the street towards the school.

Lala, naturally, found a way to force herself to the front of the pack once they were inside the school. Nergui was perhaps the wisest choice for this, but she was a former Guardian with much to prove, and chief among them that she remained courageous enough to realize that her place was as a shield to others and especially to a priestess (although, perhaps, if it came down to the wire, Lala's blade would be wielded in defense of her brother, instead).

After a few silent, cautious, prowling minutes, a sweep of light motion at the end of a hallway had the Guardian on high alert, and she turned to see if the others had seen it before pursuing it with still more caution than before, wary of such a slip being nothing more than a trap to lure the Hunter's guests into a dangerous passageway.

But they closed in, perhaps unobserved, until with a suddenness that made her shriek only to choke it back abruptly, not that it mattered as it was swallowed up anyway in the piercing, ear-rattling noise that broke out at one side, enveloping them entirely as the Hunter made use of the sudden distraction to hightail it down a hallway in a swish of white and gold coat.

It had been a while since they'd gone out together, but all the same, Nergui would be able to see the easy camaraderie between siblings: Ollie falling unhesitatingly, without pride or concern, into his sister's shadow, both of them working to protect the princess. Maybe he was young, flighty, naive most of the time, but here there was a sudden focus that came all the sharper at the sound of his sister's distress.

Here, he finally ducked past her, a comfortable twist and weave that put him in front of her and taking down the path at breakneck speed. The hunter was on the move, but so long as he could keep sight of that white coat, they couldn't hide.

Lala could worry about a trap, but Ollie thought he could about smell the desperation. And so he followed, toward the gym, his own cry a rumbling challenge that would help the other two follow behind.

There was no other way out of the gym. He stood in the doorway and, there, paused: eyes settling in the dark until he could see the figure, struggling to make a hiding place and then, slowly, giving up. Instead, she turned to face them, dark eyes wild. Her expression melting to match their determination.

The priestess was used to the over protective behaviors of guardians, so she did little to dissuade Lala from taking the point position in their little hunting party. The priestess took the opportunity provided to take in their surroundings. Mismatched eyes scanning up and down the halls they crept through, the glow of the golden one casting odd shadows in the gloom.

That flutter of movement had indeed drawn the priestess' attention, and her focus turned completely towards the end of the hall they'd seen it in. They prey was on the move, running away from them, or leading them towards a trap. "Caution," she urged, voice barely a whisper.

Lala wasn't the only one that startled at the siren. Nergui too was swallowing down a scream, lips drawing back from he teeth as delicate fingers itched to summon the comfort of her blade.

It was Ollie breaking ahead that was the most alarming. Yes, he'd proven himself quite the fighter when they'd sparred, but that did not make the mare any less protective of the young colt as he took off down the corridor in the hunter's wake. It had the darker mare running after, with our without Lala at her side, and she did call the darkness of her saber as she reached the gymnasium.

The sight of the hunter turning to face them brought the coldest of smiles to dark lips. This called to the darker part of her, the murmuring caress of whispers that ran in a constant backdrop to her own intern thoughts. That touch of Insanity that marked the mare as other. It was easy to slip around Ollie's side, an the priestess was darting across the worn wood of the floor to meet the woman as she summoned a spear to her hands and held it at the ready. A swipe opened a cut across the apple of the priestess' cheek, but she chuckled in response, a melodic sound, and brought that matte black blade up in a wicked slash across her target's torso.

Her blood boiling as the human turned to face down her brother, her rage at him, too, for flying off ahead swelling up sudden and terrible, she launched in on a tide of solid anger--

--contrary to all of her training, to every whispering reassurance that Una had ever given her, reaching out to steady her trembling blade: be present and, more mischievously, nurse a grudge to strengthen it--

--and so of course the Hunter dodged the incoming, inexpert blow easily, wheeling instead on Ollie as Lala made a frustrated scream through her gritted teeth.
