In practice, it was a bit different than Jomijoke had expected.
She might not have known she was carrying Insha's litter if not for the unsettled feeling that lingered in her stomach for weeks. Her appetite had all but diminished except for the bitter roots she gnawed on. A remedy her father had taught her when she was a curious cub, eating all manner of things not appropriate for lion consumption.
Embarrassed by her own feebleness, she had tried to avoid Insha and instead had found shelter with some Jini lionesses who had shown sympathy for her pathetic state. By their charity she had been provided with mildly flavored meat choices and supplements to ensure that--despite her nausea--the cubs growing inside her would have the nutrition they needed.
Luckily the worst of it had finally passed and though she still wasn't yet heavy with her pregnancy, Jomijoke could feel the lively little monsters rolling about. She was certain they were strong and healthy and now that she was well enough to manage it, the albino crocodile would see to it that she kept them well fed.
With her jaws around the throat of a still struggling gazelle doe that had wandered too close to the water's edge Jomi dragged the beast with her in search of the sire of the cubs. She was eager to show him her kill, still dripping with the excess water that drained off her short, smooth pelt.
Jomijoke would give him the family he desired, though the concept of how to be a family was a vague concept that still eluded her. At least she was trying!
