Tollak was out near the sparing sands, like he usually was this time of the day. However instead of participating in any duels or challenges like he normally was inclined too the reaver sat mulling over a problem he was dealing with.

His thrall refused to listen to him.

It wasn't as if he wasn't being bossy enough for her to get the point. The gray lion had spent a majority of yesterday pestering Senka to go get him food, a task he deemed suitable enough for a pigheaded thrall like her. Only instead of returning with a nice fat steak Senka brought home a pile of crushed bones.

"Here master, the bones of your enemies. I'm sure a death-bringer like you will find them tasty." He huffed out a exhausted sigh at remembering how Senka's face looked when she told him that. Ugh, his thrall was useless enough that she didn't even know what counted as food!

Standing, Tollak decided maybe things would go over smoothly if he was intimidating to other thralls. Or something like that. Whatever, he needed to blow off steam, thralls were practically any reaver's verbal punching bag, right?

"Hey thrall!" He called out to what he assumed was one of them in the distance. "Bring me a pelt!"

Therese had had her mind on a bit of relaxation. She'd taken care of her master and seen to her chores around the den. Not long ago a lion had shown her dancing from his old pride. Now she wanted to continue to practice what she'd learned. With any luck Fyffe would be there and could teach her some more.

As she passed the training fields though she paused for just a second to watch. It was a second too long. Her ears flicked as a reaver hollered at her to fetch a pelt. Oh brother. Therese padded toward the grey male although she had no pelt for him. "Excuse me?" She inquired politely but with a firm tone. Thrall she may be, but her master was the only one who could tell her what to do. She wasn't a push over thrall and she wasn't going to lightly take orders from anyone who hadn't earned her respect first. The white female stared boldly at the male.

Was the thrall deaf? Tollak thought he had sounded perfectly clear. It was not impossible for thralls to be deaf however, he had seen quite a few who were. Some simply because they were born that way and others due to reaver involvement in their lives. But judging from the frown on the female's face Tollak felt this was not the case. She was not deaf, just irritating.

He started to wonder if all thralls were this irritating...

"A pelt." He repeated in a somewhat commanding tone. He walked slowly towards the female, not in any sort of rush. "Your a thrall right? Go get me one."

That's what she'd thought. Her chin lifted a little at his commanding tone. "Only my master has the right to command me," she declared. Therese knew she was being a bit stubborn and maybe crossing the line just a bit, but she couldn't stand his attitude. "An Order is not the same as a Request." Her paws refused to budge as he moved toward her. If he struck her, he'd have her master to deal with. Not that it might stop him now.

"Do not take this the wrong way, but your attitude could use some work. Just because I am a thrall, it doesn't mean I am less than you. Had you asked me politely I would have fetch you a pelt. Now you can fetch it yourself or get someone else." Some reavers she knew had superior view of themselves. It was regretful, but the pride mentality. Thankfully her master was kind and understanding. Therese was lucky to grow up with her master instead of being a beaten and cowed thrall some were.

The gray lion's face twitched at Therese's reaction. Gods, was something wrong with all the thralls today? Or was it "boycott the gray reaver's day" and he didn't know about it? Either way it was starting to get on Tollak's nerves how all the thralls seemed to think they could just get away with anything around him.

"Being a thrall means exactly that your less than me!" He was a bit surprised that this thrall seemed to think other words. Thralls were slaves, slaves were below freeborns just like freeborns had to respect that they were below captains and so on and so forth. Was it really that difficult to understand?!

Tollak stopped when he came face to face with the white thrall, he glared at her but made no move to suggest he was going to slap her or anything. Abusing thralls... That was maybe the one thing Tollak didn't like about his pride. He refused to hit thralls, plain and simple like that.

No matter how much they seemed to deserve it...

"Go get me a pelt." He repeated.

magnadearel
Tollak stop, that's not how you make friends. xD

CaliWolfe
Lol. Maybe they can reach the point of friendship later?

Therese wanted to sigh. She clearly wasn't getting through to this lion. "Go get it yourself." Despite being muzzle to muzzle the lioness didn't move. Normally she wasn't this bullheaded. The white lioness wondered what had come over her. Maybe it was the tone he had said his order. Whatever it had been, she was stuck with this course now. Her pride wouldn't let her bow to this lion after she'd told him no. Not unless he asked nicely.

All she had wanted to do was spend a bit of her free time practicing her dancing. Now it looked like she wasn't going to get that chance at all. If only she hadn't passed so close. If only he hadn't seen her and thought she was a thrall. She wondered briefly why her master hadn't trained her to obey any old reaver.

Tollak stared at her. He stared long and hard. Maybe he just wasn't intimidating enough or something. Maybe that's why all the thrall in the whole pride seemed to think it was fine to just flat out ignore his orders!

So he tried a slightly different tactic. "I'm a reaver you know. Your disobeying a seasoned warrior!" He wondered if her master, if she had a master that was, would be upset by the fact she was disobeying him. Would she get in trouble? If her master let her get away will all this then no, he supposed not. His words probably meant nothing to her.

Still he couldn't help but feel so aggravated. His ears were folded back and he wore a mean scowl. "Your really not going to go get me a pelt?" He questioned with the slightest tilt of his head. "You must be pretty useless if you can't even do that."

magnadearel
Not going to lie, it'd be nice if Tollak actually managed to have a female friend for once. Most of the female's he knows are enemies xD

CaliWolfe
He can totally earn her respect and she'll be his friend.

She stared back. Staring contest. She could handle this.

"It's clear your a reaver. It's also clear that you haven't earned my respect. Seasoned warrior or not. It's not about fighting skills here. It's common, or in your case, uncommon courtesy." She couldn't resist the slight barb as flicked her tail and sat down. Therese decided she wasn't going to budge until he either gave up or got what she was trying to say to him.

"Nope." The lioness smirked as he tried to insult her. "Ah but there you're wrong. You see my master would ask," she emphasized the word, "and I would have happily gone and fetched him as beautiful a pelt as I could find."

"Let's start over. My name is Therese." She sat waiting expectantly for him to name himself. Would he to a thrall?

Her master would ask? Okay so... so this was. "You mean this all because I didn't say please?!" He shook his head with a sigh. Gods why were thralls so dumb? He shouldn't have had to say please, he was reaver!

Still, when the lioness sat down, with a grumble, Tollak joined her. Maybe if he cooperated with her then he'd get a better understanding of his own thrall. Or something. Ugh, thralls were just stressful business he decided. Annoying and stressful and needy, like cubs.

He was still wearing a frown, but decided to sit straighter, more proper. "I'm Tollak." He said after a long pause of deciding whether or not to say anything at all. "Sort of nice to meet you then, thrall Therese." He couldn't help but say her title with her name, "Will you please go get me a pelt?" He asked, stressing his please to emphasize that he had actually said this time.

CaliWolfe
Hehe she thinks he's cute with his grumpy reaver ways. I'd love another rp with them.

She wanted to giggle, but held it back. "Well that and your tone. It could have been politer. I don't want to just be some piece of meat you can boss around."

Therese nodded her head when he took a seat with her. Progress! "Tollak. It's a pleasure to meet you." She dipped her head respectfully. She could have done without the thrall part, but at least he was making an effort to be polite.

"I will. What kind of pelt do you want? A nice one or just a little something to wipe the sweat off with? Something large to shade you with perhaps?" If she could keep him talking now that she had him it would be great. Eventually she would have to go get the pelt, but she wanted him to think about this little encounter too.

Wa- his tone was fine, thank you very much. Tollak very much was a lion who wore his emotions on his sleeve, so to speak. If he was angry, he'd be scowling; if he was happy, he'd be skipping around smiling like an idiot. Right now he was very much annoyed, and was making no effort to fix the way he spoke for a thrall. Well he sort of was, he said please. But his tone was sticking!

He lightened up a bit when she finally said she'd go get him a pelt this time. His face softened from it's glare into a more neutral expression. He wasn't smiling, but he wasn't frowning either.

"A warm pelt." He told her, "It's sort of chilly out today so I want a warm pelt to not be cold."

magnadearel
Ha ha yes, maybe he can walk in on her dancing next.

CaliWolfe
Oh dear that should be amusing. XD Fin?

She flicked her tail. There was a bit of give on both sides. He said please, and she said she'd go get his pelt. "Alright," Therese jumped up and bounced off to fetch the item in question. She wanted to ask why didn't just do some sparring to warm up, but she felt she'd rather not push her luck right now. It didn't take her long to find a fetching pelt that should keep the lion warm and return with it.
