Chayah meekly padded through the swamp lands of the Stormborn pride. She had been claimed by her sister, Pur, and freed from Thrall-dom, but she still kept her head down like a defeated lioness. She could have left the pride now, she was free to do so in her new role of Freeborn, but now her daughter, Kifuani, had a litter of her own. She was happy for her daughter, she supposed. She didn't feel much like a grand mother, but now her grandchildren were old enough to have children of their own. Brynhildr, Hróðvitnir, Stiphen and the rest of the litter were constantly hanging round Kifuani's den. Which was also Chayah's den. Sometimes she had to get away from them. Calder was a good enough father, it seemed. Better than her own, the God of Rogues, Al-hattal. He had never been around and instead left her and her two siblings with their insane mother, Coeur. Times had always been tough for Chayah. Her siblings got away, but she stayed. Out of fear? Was she just weak? Or to give them a better chance of escape? She wasn't sure. Then she eventually found her own way out. She had her own family and knew joy. She raised her cubs well and they went on their ways, besides Kifuani. The black lioness sighed, remembering it all. That had been Kifuani's downfall as well. The evil Coeur caught up to them and took control all over again.

Fleance was lost. Again. As usual. What else was new. This place was by the sea. That was nice, right? Actually, the climate kind of stank around here. But he'd found some kind of swamp, and that's where Ninon and their abundant family should be, right? Geeze, he was terrible at keeping up with all of his spawn. He couldn't even keep track of his familiar, Yoshiteru. He should have given them all feathers. Whoops. More than a dozen kids later and he was still pretty new at this. Well, if he ever saw any of them again, he'd be sure to do that as the first order of business. Even though some of them (plenty of them) probably despised him for being an absentee father. But how could they blame him? He was on the lam! Avoiding his brother who may or may not be hunting him still. What if he had invented Philotheous? He shook his mighty body, as if to rid himself of the thought. He was going to finally find his sort of mate, his children, and have a very pleasant day. He would make sure of it. He hadn't seen any lions in the area, though, but he could smell them. It seemed like a big pride. It didn't smell familiar like the Jini-msemi, but oh well. He figured seasons changed things and with all the pride members, it couldn't possibly always smell the same, right?? Ah! There! He saw a lioness in the distance. Maybe he could ask her for directions about where to find Ninon and the rest.

Chayah was oblivious to the company. She was still wrapped up in her misery, but now focused on the hunt. She'd tracked a warthog into the area, the beast drawn by the mud. The hunt was over in a flash, having taken the creature by surprise when it was bogged down in the swampy terrain. She began eating, the blood from the beast dripping down her mouth and front and mingling with the bloody marking on her chest. The mark from her despised mother.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A twig cracked beneath his mighty paws. With his wings concealed, he might have looked intimidating, strictly because of his impressive size. At least he wasn't an adult god. He winced and grimaced a smile at the lioness. He saw the hair on the back of her neck raise up, and her lips curl in a snarl. She had scars over her face her haunches. She must be an impressive fighter.
"H-hello, I'm so sorry to interrupt." He was probably more scared of her than she was of him. He heard a low growl rumble from her small form.

"You. I know you." Fleance tilted his head. "Excuse me?" Before he could react, she lunged at him. Her claws extended, teeth bared. She knew this god. She had met him in her youth. When she was still suffering under Coeur for the first time, but after Pur'coeur and Lajos had escaped. She didn't know what she would do once she reached the god, but her anger and hurt from being rejected when he refused to help her. He'd had another female cub with him, so why had she been turned away? The hits she landed were half-hearted. More sadness from her paws than intent of pain. Fleance let her hit him. He was too confused and startled to do much else. She seemed vaguely familiar. But he couldn't place it. A smack from her paw to his head seemed to jog his memory. He stepped on her when she was a cub. Her mother was insane, and white where she was black. Then as a cub, she had followed him and Kimo, his eldest daughter, to a cave, where she begged him for help. But the new father didn't know how to take care of two cubs. He barely could manage the one. He eventually lost Kimo (in the care of Yoshiteru, albeit). He stood still to take more hits from her, but they didn't land. Instead, a look of confusion and horror had replaced the lioness' anger.

"I-I'm so sorry. I thought you were someone else. I thought you were a god, b-but he had wings." Her brows furrowed. He looked just like the god who had stepped on her and refused her. But like she said, the god had wings. And ONLY gods had wings. So no wings means mortal, right?? She stammered again and dug into the mud with her toes. "I'm sorry, can I offer you some of my warthog to make up for it? I'm so so sorry." Fleance didn't know what to do, but go along with it. "Uh, common mistake. My father was a god, maybe it was him who you met." It wasn't a complete lie. His father WAS a god. But so was his mother, so he was an immortal. "Uhm, thank you." He padded over to the kill with her and began eating. Of course he didn't need to, but it made it more convincing that he was a normal lion. "Let me make it up to you. Tonight. Please?" Blood on his maw, he gulped. "Uh. Sure." The lioness smiled at him, and he smiled back. the end word count: 1121
