SHOP RULES: These must be followed at all times when referring to seers and seer powers. (Taken from the Seer & Hybrid List)
Quote: Guide to Seers!
Types Past, Present, Future In their most basic definition, seers have visions of the past, present, and/or future. Some seers may only ever see one of three, or they may see a combination...or even a mix of more than one at the same time, which would certainly be confusing! They may realize which they are seeing, or they may not.
Subtypes Visual The most common manifestation of seer abilities, and thus the reason for the 'seer' term, is to literally see the past, present, and/or future. These visions can take the form of dreams while one sleeps, or visions while one is awake. They can be strong and clear, or vague and confusing, straightforward or open to interpretation. Auditory Some seers may simply hear their visions, noises and words that have yet to be spoken, or were spoken long ago, or that someone is speaking now. Olfactory, Gustatory, Cutaneous Arguably less useful than visual or auditory seers, that doesn't mean the less-considered senses can't be interesting! A seer could experience phantom scents, tastes, and/or physical sensations that hint at something that has happened, is happening, or will happen. Can't put my paw on it... Other seers might just get a feeling sometimes, an awareness that something is going to happen (or will happen or has happened). They may not know what, but something's giving them the heebie-jeebies!
Restricted Types These types of seers are extremely rare, and are ONLY available through official shop events. You may not choose one of these types for your seer. Truth These seers know whether or not someone is telling the truth. Compass These seers always know when and where their visions are occuring. Map These seers always know where they are.
Strength Are your seer's visions clear and easily understood, or nebulous and difficult to interpret? Do they know when they're having a vision, or do they think they're just dreaming or hallucinating? When considering your seer's abilities, it may help to think of them on a scale of 1 to 5.
Frequency How often does your seer have visions? Do they happen night after night, or will they go their entire life having only one, or with their ability never manifesting at all? Maybe they occur regularly, with every full moon, or maybe it's completely random. Maybe they'll be beset with visions for days, only for them to get farther apart. The options are endless!
Triggers While some seers' abilities manifest at random, other seers have specific triggers. Maybe it's a phase of the moon, the presence of someone in particular, being in a certain place, or seeing/hearing/tasting/feeling a certain thing, or touching someone or something. Seers with triggers may learn to use these triggers to anticipate or induce visions.
Side Effects Seers may experience side effects with their visions! They may find them blissful, disorienting, or painful, even to a point where they're incapacitated, whether for moments or for days. Their visions might even drive them insane! While your seer doesn't have to experience side effects, they can be an interesting addition to roleplay.
What Seers Can't Do Seers cannot in any way, shape, or form, read or pick up on the thoughts of another being. Seers do not inherently know whether or not someone is telling the truth. If they have visions of the past, however, it is possible that they have seen a certain event, and therefore know that it did or didn't happen as someone claims - or did it? Visions can be tricky, after all! Seers do not inherently know exactly where their vision is taking place, or what direction they're 'supposed' to go. That said, they may very well see a physical location - something vague like a desert, or something specific like Pride Rock - and therefore have clues to follow. They just don't get a feeling of "Go this way to find ___!" Seers do not inherently know exactly when their vision of the future will come to pass (i.e. two hours or two months from now), though again, it is possible for them to garner clues from the vision that may help them narrow down the window of time. Seers do not possess an innate sense of where they are at any given time. There are some exceptions to these rules, as listed under 'Restricted Types.'
