Overview

    The SDRP Academy Program

Welcome to the SDRP's flagship Workshop Series - the SDRP Academy. This is a special sort of RP where it's all about teaching players how to Role Play. Since this is the School of Dedicated Role Players we're offering an extensive catalog of quality classes in a persistent RP world where you can hone your skills and generally hang out with other guild members in an academic setting. The guild's more active, advanced members will serve as the faculty running classroom RPs which are really workshops designed to teach various role play related topics. Around them is (will be) a frame RP in which students can interact with each other, faculty, and staff on the campus of said academy.

    POL 101

        From the Course Catalog:
        Quote:
        Political Science
This department focuses on role playing itself - the core skills needed to work within common role playing systems and standards to collaboratively tell stories and achieve goals.

POL 101: Introduction to Political Science - This course teaches the very basics of what it is to Role Play with a focus on terminology, mechanics, and etiquette.

POL 101 is a little bit of everything with roleplaying. This course will take you through the staple knowledge required for roleplaying: searching, applying, and ultimately posting in a roleplay. It will cover what goes into making a character for a roleplay, how to write an introductory post and your typical roleplay post, and how to interact with fellow roleplayers. The focus will be on roleplaying in forums and, in particular, on Gaia.

By the end of the course, you will be primed to step foot into the world of roleplaying and have the confidence to roleplay comfortably. Even if you already knew how to roleplay, chances are this course will serve as a good chance to further analyze your own skill, experiences, and enjoyment, in an effort to improve them. This course is also the prerequisite for several other SDRP Academy courses, so it is pretty important!

RULES

    Commitment

Our aim is to provide roleplaying education and experience to as many prospective and continuing roleplayers as possible, so it will be rare for us to turn down a student applicant. However, to ensure smooth running of this class, we do require that a few criteria be met of our POL101 students.

        As a student, you must:
        • be able to check the thread at least once every two days
        • be able to make a post in the classroom roleplay thread at least two times a week
        • be active in the class's dedicated OOC thread.
        • have the patience and enthusiasm to learn and try out new things

You will notice that some of these rules are a little stricter than the base rules available in the How to Apply: Students, Teachers, Faculty thread. This is because at this time, a subgoal for this class at this is to keep the ball rolling so as to best emulate a real roleplay.

If you are enrolled in this course, it is expected that you will be able to keep up with the posting requirements, as you have been informed about them prior to applying. If you expect to be on an extended absence (3 days+), please inform us in the OOC and/or through a PM to Watervoir.

    Application

Instructions on how to apply for this class can be found here.

    Standard SDRP Academy Rules

These are the basic codes of conduct within the Academy. There are not many and they are very simple. Breaking these will have consequences.

        1. Common Sense
Don't be an idiot. Respect each other, respect the TOS, and respect guild rules. Don't mess it up for the rest of us, and try not to do anything that would upset other people. This is a GAME after all, we're here to have fun.

        2. Control
Don't control anyone else's character(s). Don't severely affect (maim, kill, etc) them without permission (of the player or with GM override). Don't go off on an insane killing spree (without permission). Don't mess up the plot/world. Basically use some measure of self control or pay the consequences (character death/player ban). If you need help with the control etiquette just ask.

        3. Literacy
This is a school and as such we encourage you to write well. For this RP that means in third person, past tense, complete sentences. L33t speak, txt abbreviations, profuse slang, and generally bad grammar should not be used outside of dialog. We won't be grammar Nazis but do try to write above an 8th grade level. If you have issues with grammar just ask for help.

Please do not color and/or bold dialog. It puts too much emphasis on dialog which, while important, should not be put above the rest of the text. Also do not center align long blocks of text, use small fonts, or use bright font colors. In general please keep formatting to a minimum.

For POL 101, the minimum post length is one paragraph (around at least three average length sentences).

        4. Depth
We'd like our characters to be as real as possible but this is an intro class so we don't expect much from entering students. In this class you should learn to make rich characters.

        5. Commitment
        Covered above.

        6. Dependability
Occasional lapses in commitment are understood but please notify the Registrar and your current teacher (if in class) when you expect an extended absence. Frequent, repeated lapses in commitment will result in the lowering of your listed posting frequency, failure of classes, and possible expulsion from the Academy.

Roster

    Accepted

Below are the students enrolled in this class and the characters they are playing. If you believe you are in this class but your name does not appear here, please contact the SDRP Registrar.

        • Blucshia - Rinna Blu: Rinna is a student of this class. She is kind and generous, but in the other hand is shy and introvert.Enjoys learning new skills.Sometimes its hard for her to understand new info at start.(also she likes blue-themed things a lot..)

        • Ozenko - Anno Nonoko: Diminutive girl of Asian descent, perpetually smiling face hidden by eye-concealing straight bangs attached to an unruly mop of short brown hair that gives off a fluffy appearance. Slight of build and androgynous in appearance, often mistaken for a young boy when out of uniform. Speaks in rather grandiose words.

        • QueenArasene - CharacterName: The character will be a very basic Neko- mainly human with cat ears and some certain appropriate traits. I'm not sure what else you want to know. Loosely based off Blake in the RWBY series.

        • Thornwick - Archibald Aloysius Twitch: Archibald Aloysius Twitch reluctantly finds himself at the Academy at his employer’s request. While Archie views his involvement as irrelevant, his employer sees no one better suited for the task, as this fifty-seven year old war veteran values instruction and application.

        • Tunes14 - Lark Garrison: Lark Garrison, 17, just dropped out of his junior year of high school. He currently lives in his friend's garage. Having silvery hair, he likes to think he’s connected to something beyond human. However, until a few days ago, his only supernatural experiences were video games.

    Quote Summons

This is a handy compilation of the code to contact everyone in this class all at once. Use it wisely!

The birds were chirping and the day was sunny. The clouds in the sky looked, as it has for years, dotted on. The sky looked more like the inside of a planetarium. The school's grounds were lush, clean and well-kept. Its various buildings forming the campus stood tall and magnificent, all around you. Ah yes, it was just another ordinary day at the SDRP Academy.

For some of you this was nothing new, and today was not going to be your first class at the Academy. For others, this was still very new and fresh to you, and very much as exciting (or as groan-worthy) as your first day at any other school. For all of you, it all began when you had first received a mysterious acceptance letter to a university you had never heard of you found yourself.

For one reason or another, you had decided to check it out. The address had brought you to a small, weathered building in the middle of nowhere, hardly large enough to keep a shop in let alone a university. Only the crest on the faded sign swinging above the door matched the one on the acceptance letter to tell you that you were indeed at the right place.

And thus, you had crossed the threshold and found on the other side of that door a splendour that you had not expected. The door had not opened you to the inside of a building, but to an entirely new world.

But that was all in the past. Let's focus on today.

Today, you arrive at the doorstep of your POL 101 class. The school's internal intranet had told you that this was the place to go. Third floor of hall H. Maybe you double checked, or even triple checked, to make sure that you knew where to go in the maze of halls and buildings that was the SDRP Academy. But when you arrived at the classroom, you discovered the door was closed. Was there no class?

As you approach the door, you notice that a sheet of paper crudely taped on with some instructions written in a very hurried handwriting: "Running errands. BRB. Chat amongst yourselves and get to know each other first. Flesh yourselves out a little bit. Make a great opening scene! I'll be there soon. Stay cool, -Riv :)"

"Flesh yourselves out"? Pardon me? Little did you know that you were not really a being of your own, but you were in fact being controlled by someone whose intentions were to learn a bit more about roleplaying. But never mind that -- what about the sign itself? What could all of this mean? Maybe some student was pulling a prank. The sign didn't even state the class code. But this was definitely the right room, and the course description did mention that a "Riven Fannars" was the teacher. The other students are with you, also waiting for the teacher to arrive and officially start class. Looks like some introductions might be in order. . .

As the small crowd of unidentified individuals clustered at the door, the smallest shade among them perked up as it gained sentience for the first time. Whipping off a smiling mask from its face, the transient shade coalesced into one Anno Nonoko with an audible *poof*. A mousy girl with a head of fluffy brown hair that shrouded her eyes with its long fringe and an androgynous physique, she could easily be mistaken for a young pre-teen boy if not for the simple female uniform she was wearing.

"Nin, nin! Nonoko-sama has arrived!" The aforementioned Nonoko positively crowed as she looked around at the unfamiliar environment in excitement, her head turning left and right in erratic swiveling motions as she sought to drink in the view. Her other classmates still being unidentified shades was a bummer, but she absolutely refused to let it bring her down! Her first day of school here is going to be a happy affair, come hell or high water!

Whipping around all of a sudden, Nonoko turned to face the windows and peered out at the blue beyond. With a sunny grin on her face, she began waving at nothing in particular. "Thanks for dropping me off at school, Ozenko-sama! I'll do you proud, I promise!"

(OOC: Yes, yes, my dear. Call me Mother or something, and remember to listen to Fannars-sensei!)

"Yes, Mama! Eye of the Taiga!" Still talking to nothing in particular, Nonoko's grin became three times sunnier as she waved goodbye to the empty sky. "Got to go now, bye bye~!"

(OOC: Good girl! I'll pick you up after class today, have fun!)

The muscle beneath Archie’s left eye started to twitch.

Just days earlier, he had been at Genmark Manor, immersed in his elements (order and perfection), doling out assignments and conducting inspections. Returning to his position of majordomo--after weeks at the SDRP Academy at Lady Genmark’s behest--ignited within him a fire so fierce that single dust mote wasn’t allowed to settle on his watch. It had been bliss.

Leave it to his eccentric mistress to wrench it out of his grasp.

On a day opposite of this one, while Archie had been measuring spacing between the table settings, Lady Genmark tore into the dining room like a hurricane, looking very much like she’d just been spit out by one. She stalked toward him, a Cheshire Cat’s grin plastered on her face to match the glittering mischief in her large, brown eyes. As always, he received her presence with an air of respect and unshakable composure, but he knew, as anyone else within the household, that such an entrance was a herald of misfortune to come.

“You’ve just been accepted, soldier boy!” she announced, breathless with excitement. She thrust a folded sheet of paper into his weathered hand. Upon unfolding it, Archie’s golden-brown countenance was painted a stormy wash, mirroring the weather outside.

The majordomo didn’t have to read the contents of paper to know the cause of all this hullabaloo; the crest, emblazoned at the top of the page, alluded to forthcoming events. The SDRP Academy beckoned him, once more.

So here he was--limping his way up the stairs to the third floor. The previous course (PSY 101) took place elsewhere within the dated structure, but he didn’t remember the journey to be as exhausting. He pushed his trim figure forward nevertheless, cane in hand to steady his ascent. Archie barely reached the top of the stairs when he heard a raised voice, which steadily got louder as he made his way through the hallways. The spasm beneath his eye intensified with every step.

Just who could be causing all this commotion, and for what purpose?

Turning a corner, Archie’s dark, soulful eyes fixed themselves upon the source of noise: a boy, with an unruly fluff of hair, shouted at the sky beyond the window. No, not a boy, the majordomo corrected himself after closer inspection. A girl--and a young one, at that. Regardless of attire, it was hard to tell these days.

He tore his gaze away from the youth and reached into his coat pocket for the course outline. After a moment of quick study, he turned to the row of doors behind him, picking out the number plate indicated as the course classroom printed on the outline; his full lips stretched into a thin line at the sight of the crude sign taped to its surface. The scrawled penmanship exuded the same energy his mistress did during a “brainstorming session”.

Archie peered over his shoulder at the girl. There was only one reason for her being there, and the majordomo sighed inwardly. Was he to be thirty, forty years a senior to his peers for a second time?

Returning the course outline to his pocket, he produced a pocketwatch from his waistcoat as he turned away from the door. The hands on the timepiece stood still, though the ticking of its gears could scarcely be heard. Somehow, time had stopped upon his arrival, and Archie couldn’t tell if he was early, late, or right on time. What an inconvenience.

“Pardon me,” he said, addressing the androgynous figure by the window, “but would you happen to know how long this”--he tapped a knuckle against the sign--“has been here?”

"Who-? Ah, hello~!" Wrenching her gaze from the windows, Nonoko practically bounded forwards to face the older-looking man who had just entered the hallway. "It's been there ever since I arrived!" Someone new had shown up barely minutes after she had arrived, she didn't even have to wait that long! Going by his advanced age and formal attire, he appeared to be the teacher that was supposed to be with them today!

Something didn't add up however, Nonoko pondered as she hovered silently in front of the man, a confused frown forming on her face. This old geezer didn't seem like the type to use such informal writing like on the note, he looked more like the kind of person who'd bury it in jargon instead.

Oh well, time to find out the direct way! "I'm Anno Nonoko! You can call me Anon too, nice to meet you!" Looking like an excitable child rather than her actual age, Nonoko chirped as she proffered her arm for a handshake, her face plastered with her customary grin.

Lark Garrison, age 17, wandered up to the classroom, looking lost. He didn't think he'd be walking toward a classroom so soon after dropping out of school. But the timing was just too perfect.

He had skipped school for two weeks about 4 months ago. He had run away from home, opting to live secretly in his friend Gary's shed. He had been very careful not to be seen, since he figured his parents would call the police or something when he didn't show up for a week. But after two weeks, when no one had come looking for him (pretty depressing, he thought - after all, what if he had been dead?), he decided to start going back to school. It was better than sitting in that shed all the time. The cabin fever was getting downright unbearable.

He didn't know where he was going in life. He wanted to find something out of the ordinary. Not just uncommon, but mythical. Magical. Nonhuman. He had been told all of his life that his silvery-gray hair was a touch of albinoism, but he had been convinced that it was proof of his personal connection to something unknown, something exciting. He knew he as probably wrong, but it was a good thought. He hadn't been able to find anything superatural, no matter how hard he had searched. Not until a few days ago.

A few days ago, he had found a young girl, about 6 years old, wandering around in the wooded area on the edge of town. He thought about turning her in to the authorities until she changed into a wolf. Then he decided that, with her being supernatural, it was up to him to take care of her. So he dropped out of school to do something he hoped would be much more interesting. After all, she clearly wasn't human. That automatically made her interesting.

That was when the letter showed up. He didn't know where it had come from. Gary didn't know anything about it. No one knew anything about it. And most strange of all was that it had appeared in Gary's shed addressed to him. An invitation to SDRP. He didn't know what it was, but since the letter had come just after he met the inhuman girl and it had come under such strange circumstances, he couldn't ignore it. So he decided to attend.

He was questioning this decision as he walked up to the room, completely missing the note on the door. There were two people crowded in the hall next to a door - a young stick-like girl and an old man. The old guy was probably the teacher. And based on the quick glance he made of the circumstance, they seemed to be doing introductions. So he decided to join in. "Hey", he said, stepping up to them. "I'm Lark. Lark Garrison. Is this the POL101 room? I got a letter..."

May stretched. The day was young and bright and... you know, all those good things that a promising day seems to be. She'd gotten up a little earlier than usual to make sure that she looked her best on this first day of "school"- her friend had told her that an academy wasn't a real school but something similar, so she called it "school". With quotation marks. Those quotation marks, once she'd actually found the place, had turned out to be incredibly accurate as nothing in the Academy was even close to any school she'd ever seen before. Mostly, it was all shimmering clean- you didn't get that back at home. Perhaps, she'd told herself, perhaps this "school" thing wouldn't be so bad after all. So she'd decided to stay and check it out some more- being accepted, of course, didn't mean that you were absolutely required to go somewhere.

On the other hand, being accepted did mean that you should go somewhere if you wanted to find out what the acceptation was all about. Which was exactly what May was doing right now, slinking sneakily up one flight, two flights, three flights of stairs before finding the right hallway. At least, she assumed it was the right hallway. Finding out about that shouldn't be very hard- there were, of course, people to ask. Three of them, too, although they looked quite widely varied. So students! That was probably the best explanation.

Resisting the gentle urge to sneak up on the trio and pounce, she crossed the remainder of the hallway and unobtrusively joined the little group, acting as if she'd been there all along and was certainly and definitely supposed to be there. "Hi guys! POL 101, right?"

Archie raised an eyebrow.

Energy in young people wasn’t all that uncommon. But this particular young person seemed to emit enough energy to power a small suburb. Paired with her wiry frame she could be easily compared with a snippet of an electrical line. Truth be told, this kind of exuberance taxed the majordomo's nerves; however, after the last year with Lady Genmark, Archie’s threshold for such personalities may have increased by an inch or two. He was quite certain of one thing, though: Anno Nonoko’s personality matched her hair.

Archie considered her proffered hand for a moment. A handshake between opposite sexes was simply not done in polite society, but in light of the modern world, a woman initiating the gesture was considered perfectly acceptable. He removed one of his leather gloves. “Archibald Aloysius Twitch,” he replied, taking Nonoko’s hand into a gentle grip. “ It’s a--well, this is certainly an experience.”

Their moment of physical contact lingered a second longer before Archie released Nonoko’s hand and turned his attention on the pair that joined them in the hallway.

“You are both correct: this is the POL101 classroom. However, going by the note on the door, our instructor appears to be preoccupied, at the moment. We’re to ‘flesh ourselves out’ in the mean time.”

Lark smiled as the old man confirmed that he was in the right place. He also happened to not be the teacher. How strange - even people his age were attending this class? What kind of class was this going to be, anyway?

Lark was just beginning to dwell on the answer to that question when he glanced over at the new girl who had joined the group. When his eyes fell on her ears, they just stuck there. For a whole awkward second (or two), Lark just stood there staring at her ears, before he all but shouted at her, "Holy s**t - are those real??!", as he made a grab for her right ear.

"Its a beautiful day for sleeping" whispered the blue haired girl with a yawn.ad she slowly walked on the School's hall. The 18 year old girl received the acceptance letter the day before and today she got there pretty early, indeed it was 6:30 am when she arrived to the academy.Since she arrived too early, she pulled one of her books and read it for like 15 minutes, after that she stopped at the cafe for a milkshake...

Some minutes later she gathered some courage to go to the classroom, it was about time. The Blue haired girl was wearing a blue dress, and black stockings was wondering how her classmates will be "well, ill try to get out of the corner and make friends this time" She muttered, when she finally arrived at the classroom, some people were talking in front of a door with a note on it.She pulled a paper out of a book she had in her hands and confirmed that it was her class. With a nervous look on her clear eyes, she approached to the group of students "um hello!..sorry for interrupting, is this POL 101 ,right? " She smiled gently at them.

With a swift, fluid motion, Archie’s arm moved; his cane barred the way to the catgirl’s ear. Features hardening, he fixed Lark with a disapproving stare.

“As intriguing as her ears are, Mr. Garrison,” the majordomo started, his tone controlled and even, “a gentleman simply doesn’t place his hands on a lady without her permission--even if she is part… feline. Exercise some control, man. *Now, I believe you owe her an apology.” Archie’s expression softened (though the cane still remained in place) as he turned to third young woman in hallway, whose striking blue hair was her most distinguishing feature. “You are hardly interrupting, young miss, as we have just arrived here, ourselves.”
