TRICK OR TREAT: TRICK

gaia_crown [ LOCATION ]
  • The Human World

gaia_crown [ SETTING ]
  • Halloween Night, anywhere that might celebrate it.

gaia_crown [ MISSION ]
  • Journey to the Human World, and take advantage of the local custom of Trick-or-Treating. Reports indicate that more and more Humans are desensitized, and so it is our job to try and keep them on their toes. It just so happens that the Humans are celebrating Halloween-the-holiday, which allows us to sneak in there for a little bit of trick-playing. Be sure to adhere to their rules for this particular custom.

gaia_crown [ MECHANICS]

PART ONE
Since it's important to adapt to human traditions for the purposes of infiltration, your first stop is to get a costume! How great your costume is will affect your rolls in part three. You may choose what they end up wearing though! As long as it is frightening.
  • Roll a 1d6 and match your results below:
    • 1-2: Your costume is awfully boring. Uninspired. Nothing to be afraid of. (1d cool
    • 3-5: Your costume is pretty unsettling. You'd probably make a few people uncomfortable by simply existing. (1d10)
    • 6: Horrifying. You are absolutely horrifying. You're even scarier now than you are naturally! If that was even possible… (1d12)
  • In brackets you will notice a dice value - this will be your ability to frighten your human victim in part three!
  • Once you have your costume, you may go ahead to part two!

PART TWO
You have your costume. You're safely in the human world, in a location of your choice (as long as they celebrate halloween-the-holiday!). It's now time to find your prey.
  • Roll a 1d8, and match your results below:
    • 1: This is one desensitized costume-wearing person. Good luck. (HP: 100)
    • 2: A lone, costume-wearing teenager crosses your path. They look pretty squirrel-y… (HP: 20)
    • 3: You find a person with four costume-wearing children. The children are all under 6 years old, but you decide to focus on the adult instead. (HP: 40)
    • 4: Someone left a costume-wearing ten year old human unattended. Seems easy enough, right? (HP: 15)
    • 5: Here is a group of four teenagers. They're already terrorizing the town, and you can't help but want to target them. (HP: 80 - each teenager has 20 HP. For every 20 'damage' you do, one of them flee.)
    • 6: A lone adult is walking along, not paying attention to the spoopy holiday around them. (HP: 30)
    • 7: A young, costume-wearing couple mill about, apparently on their way to a party. They look like fun to mess with. (HP: 40)
    • 8: A small, adorably costumed child has been briefly left unattended. They are already whimpering when you find them. (HP: 5)
  • Each person has an HP value. This is how tolerant they are to being scared. The higher their 'HP', the harder they will be to frighten properly.
  • Once you have your victim, you may go ahead to part three!

PART THREE
You have your victim in your sights. Now, it's time to frighten them!
  • Your 'attack dice' - meaning your ability to pull off a great, frightening trick on them - depends on your roll in part one.
  • Part three acts just like a regular battle, just with different dice.
  • Example: I rolled a 5 in part one, and a 6 in part 2. This means my human victim has an HP of 30, and I have to roll a 1d10 until I score a total of 30 or more.
  • You can only roll one dice per post. Don't forget to RP your Horseman attempting to frighten their human!
  • The idea is to SCARE your human. Play mean TRICKS on them. Physically injuring your Human will not be tolerated in this instance.
  • If your victim's 'HP' has been depleted, you managed to frighten them enough to convince them to go home! They now have a healthy fear of…whatever you frightened them with. Congratulations!

PART FOUR
  • You may congratulate yourself on a job well done, and return home knowing that you've frightened someone into a lifelong phobia. What you do with your costume is up to you!

gaia_crown [ BONUS MECHANICS ]
  • If doing this in a group:
    • Every group member must do all the dice requirements. If one member 'defeats' their human before the others, they may help out in 'defeating' the rest!

part one

It figured that mere months after he had become an alchemist that they would be asked to do something like this. A major task in the human world where they were meant to scare instead of kill, trick instead of maim. This sort of thing was right up Mmur's alley. At least he thought it was. When the stallion actually went to get dressed, he found himself in the same sort of outfit he always wore: a loin cloth, some bracelets, and a couple of scattered feathers. It wasn't the most frightening of ensembles, but he knew from experience that there was more to scaring than a terrifying mien.

part two

The portal let him out in the middle of a crowd, though no one seemed to notice he had simply appeared out of nowhere. He was standing in the midst of some sort of celebration, if the lights and laughter were any indication. There were a lot of children milling about as well, and though they were generally easier to scare, Mmur's attention focused on a team of four teenage hooligans almost immediately. They were terrorizing child and adult alike, and they weren't even being inspired about it. He narrowed his glowing eyes and followed stealthily, even though he was little more than a fine black mist.

part three

The crowd parted for them once people noticed what the four were doing, and still they picked and poked through the crowd, singling out the shy and vulnerable for their brief pranks. But even with all of the shrieks and sobs they managed to gather, eventually they tired of their games and headed inside. Mmur was waiting.

As the first passed into the darkened queue, the horseman made his face and eyes visible to the young woman, but only for a moment. A jump scare. Cheap, but it worked. She yelped and fell back onto the boy behind her.

The ride they had gotten in line for, Pirate's Folly, was an insult to the roller coaster community. Still, the line was dark, and after the first ghoul's fright, the rest were on edge. The trickle of fear they produced lingered as they continued forward. Mmur gave them a break.

Scouting ahead, the horseman found the perfect corner to use to his advantage. As his victims turned it, Mmur made the lights flicker ominously. It shouldn't have affected them as much as it did, but he certainly didn't mind. Maybe one of them had a fear of the dark.

All right. It was time to get down to business. He focused on the first girl again, waiting until she was looking down at her feet to strike. Mmur moved in close, brushing his fingers across the back of her neck and grinning when she jumped.

"Scottttttttttt," she whined. "I'm gonna wait outsiiiiiiiiide." She rubbed at her neck. "This ride is for kids anyway."

After a little gentle ribbing, they let her leave. Three more to go.

The second kid, Scotttttttttt, was going to be harder to scare, he could tell. Mmur started simple, rattling pipes and flickering additional lights. He could feel a bit of fright in the air, but not nearly as much as the ghoul's.

Mmur literally shouted "BOO" into the young man's ear, but he was too engrossed in his phone to notice.

Yes, that was it!

With a light touch, Mmur navigated away from the video Scott was watching, bringing up his text messages. He quickly typed I CAN SEE ALL OF THOSE PICTURES YOU DELETED, then hopped away from the rapidly paling boil.

"Hey... um... guys? I'm gonna go outside and wait with Sandy." And then he was gone.

Mmur never could have guessed that those eyePhone lessons he had begged off of that Scarebucks cashier that one time would proved to be such a blessing.

The remaining two teenagers huddled together slightly as they got on the ride. The male human postured and preened, giving the impression that he was the protector of the pair, but the ghoul was silent and stoic, the real one to crack. Mmur boarded the ride behind them, rattling the seat a little.

The ride passed singing pirates of every stripe, rum-guzzling rogues and mischievous troublemakers among them. Mmur realized he hadn't been scaring, but he decided to pretend he hadn't realized it, at least for a little while longer. Pirate's Folly, as it turned out, was pretty fun.
