It Begins

Lock was going to take any chance to go to the human world that he could. He had never been, and as such he wanted to get as much experience with it as possible. He had been to the sahara with the horseman tower, to the depths of wonderland, but never just a normal human world investigation trip. The small voice in his brain told him that this would be an important opportunity for observation. Observing the enemy was the way to learn their weaknesses.

... Plus the bonus credit was good for a boil trying to graduate on time.

On the appointed day, Lock showed up 15 minutes early (jack forbid he ever be late to something). The professor handed him paperwork and Lock looked over each piece carefully. His father had always warned him of the dangers of demonic contracts, and even though the teacher insisted they weren't, Lock was suspicious. Maybe unhealthily paranoid.

The papers seemed docile enough (the usual waiver of liability) and he signed.

These "superstitions" sounded useful, from a Halloween perspective. Small things to scare humans were just as usual as huge gestures of fear. The fact that they were going to Halloween to investigate such things was relieving to him, actually. All he had to do was watch for some "superstitions" and then he could have the rest of the time to investigate questions of his owns. Things like how many teeth did the humans have, how did they move and what killed them fastest. When he brought up that last point, he was given disapproving looks. Sooo maybe that one was off the table.

Stay OUTSIDE - Roll 1

Lock elected to stay outside. Going into a home seemed to be the kind of situation where he'd get cornered easily. That, and he doubted he would ever get close enough to the hunters to see inside their homes. Thus it seemed better to observe them outside, in their natural habitat.

It was a somewhat rustic city, not necessarily "urban" but neither was it rural. It was incredibly bright out (or rather, much brighter than the usual dark, gloomy Halloween and much MUCH brighter than his underground home he'd been raised in) but not altogether foreign. He was expecting more ... he wasn't sure, but he wasn't expecting this.

There was a human standing in the middle of two roads, and Lock gave him a squint. The squint seemed to be enough to send the guy on his way, and Lock was none the wiser about what a "superstition" was.

Quote:
9: There's a human standing in the middle of a cross roads. They seem to be listening for something…so you decide to tell them about your life. They leave, muttering about how weird THEIR life was going to be.

Stay OUTSIDE - Roll 2

Lock found himself gravitating towards a cemetary. Being a reaper, it was the natural place for him to be. He watched as fear seeped from the ground, emanating a powerful current to Halloween.

One human held their breath as they walked by. Perhaps this was so they didn't inhale the fear particles?

Lock made a small note about this behavior and then continued on.

Quote:
6: One human seems to have stopped breathing while they walked past a cemetery…

Stay OUTSIDE - Roll 3

Lock saw a woman walking the other way down the street holding a lump of bread in her pocket. He thought nothing of this, however, because he knew many monsters that hoarded food in their pockets. Hell, he was pretty sure Piper hoarded food in her hair.

Either way, he didn't think much of it and continued on his way. That didn't seem like a superstition to him.

Quote:
2: You notice one of their pockets is a little lumpy - as you watch, you realize there is a lump of bread in there. How strange!

Stay OUTSIDE - Roll 4

He did note that someone had started a small fire in the alley next to the cemetery. There was a small string of pebbles, or maybe they were rocks (what was the difference again?) around what looked like ashes.

This was the most puzzling behavior he'd seen today. Was it to keep fire minipets from escaping outwards? He knew fire minipets were often difficult to handle. But then, the pebbles were too small to keep anything in place.

So perhaps instead they were like a target? That must have been it- no wonder the ground was so charred. It was a ring, guiding fiery creatures where to shoot their fireballs, so as to keep the rest of the house from exploding. Excellent.

Quote:
8: You find a ring of pebbles around what looks like an old bonfire. You nudge one with your foot.
