[CYOA] Trick or Treat: Office Edition (Lock/Sludge)

Trick or Treating

Lock did not want to do this. He didn't like sweets much in the first place (he liked them well enough, but not to the degree of rabid sugar rush obssession), and he didn't want to spend an afternoon tromping around offices and begging for said sweets.

But he had been assigned for a class to go door to door trick or treating, with a monstrous partner no less. At least this one looked formidable.

He pushed up his glasses and said, "Well. Shall we?"

Sludge wasn't a huge fan of sweets either, preferring actual meat instead of confectioneries, however it wasn't about to turn up the free offer for food, or in this case trick or treating for it.

Not that he actively knew what he was doing, but it was alright; someone was going with him, so he could just watch and see what he did.

The Xenomorph looked at the reaper as he spoke, nodding his head to say he was ready to go.

Mr. X

First on their assigned list was the teacher that lurked out in the woods. Lock wasn't one for "rustic charms" so he didn't know why any teacher would choose to put their office out here.

There was a basket of ties towards the entrance and Lock raised an eyebrow. A helpful sign said, "PLEASE TAKE ONE." Lock was already wearing a tie ...

He sighed a took another one. Knowing the professor he'd probably get mad for Lock not wearing two or something else asinine like that. Amity professors were always so ...

He sighed again.

"Are you going to take one?"

X can be found in the Weeping Woods.
He requires you to wear a tie. However, at the edge of the woods, a giant basket full of them is available. Handy!
Minigame:
X wants you to fetch him something from the woods. A piece of a shadow. He gives you and bottle and says well? Go on then.
Roll 2d10 until you make the numbers match. Otherwise, match the results.
Odd: You go in circles, again and again, finding the same signs pointing left and right, until you finally give up and turn back.
Even: A giant snarl can be felt almost behind you, but upon looking, no one is there. But you heart footsteps, getting closer, getting closer still. Run.
Match: At the crossroads, you finally wait for the beast to come, and it emerges from the darkness, hopeful. As it turns out, it just wanted some pets. You scoop part of its shadowy tail into your jar, and bring it back to X, who awards you 3 candies.
NOTE: If you are related to shadows in any way, or are dressed in formal wear, you get +1 additional candy.

Mr.X

Sludge didn't have much of a opinion on the scenery, one glance at the scenery before looking at the basket.

he blinked, listening to lock before taking one himself. It was the strange cloth that he wore around his neck, so Sludge tried to do the same. By slipping it through it's shirt so it just hung out the top.

It was...sorta like how lock had his. Sorta.

Lock opened his mouth, about to offer to fix it and then ...

Then he thought you know what, it's fine. Totally fine. The less work he had to put into this class the better.

They walked mostly in silence because Lock wasn't really a talkative sort and there wasn't really a reason to talk at the moment. He did at least say, "My name is Lock, by the way" so that Sludge had a name to yell if he was in trouble or something.

Because this was Amity and they were definitely going to run into trouble.

A twig snapped behind him and he looked over his shoulder for a moment. Nothing for now. Hm.

Sludge said nothing either during the walk, the only time he did verbally respond was when his name was asked.

"Sss....Ssssluuudge" He sounded out the words, then looked over his shoulder. Was it just him or could he heard a loud snarling, but he couldn't see a thing. Strange, although the xenomorph was more alert now for danger.

Sludge? The ground felt pretty solid here. A few more confusing signs than usual, but altogether pretty normal.

But maybe the creature was trying to say something important. "Sludge?"

Mr.X

Sludge nodded, then pointed towards himself. "Yeeesssss. Sssssluuuudge"

The growling persisted, and yet he could see no sign of a beast.

"Oh your name is Sludge," Lock pieced together. Well, good then.

They seemed to be getting terribly lost, and Lock didn't like the odds of having to survive with Sludge. He felt like Sludge would definitely eat him first.

Sludge couldn't make heads or tails of this place, and began hissing in annoyance, wanting to get out of here as soon as possible.

He glanced at Lock. The reaper looked kinda appetizing, but even he knew not to eat other halloween creatures.

...Hopefully.

Lock shot Sludge a look back in return. No touching.

Sludge cocked his head. He was still tempted.

THANKFULLY the shadowbeast was upon them. It was no trouble at all for Lock (quite literally a shadowmaster) to bind the creature and hold it in place. Upon moving closer, Voodoo began purring against its side and the creature relaxed. Lock gave it a reluctant pet.

"I will keep it in place. Do you mind gathering some of the shadows from it's tail then?" His look implied that he was going to be able to hold this beast forever, but there wasn't really a rush.

Once requested, Sludge moved closer to the shadow beast, waving his hands about the shadows to move them into the jar, getting a substantial amount and then stepping back.

Now it was time to get some candies!

Professor Winter

After retrieving his candy from Mr.X, Sludge ventured back to the school, figuring he would go to one of the few teachers he could remember, which was Professor Winter. Although it appeared to enter her office, he would need a costume. The tie on his chest wasn't going to be enough, so he did the next best thing; grab a bed sheet and threw it over his head.

Yes, this was his costume. However he neglected to put holes in the sheet, and was walking around blind because of it.

• The office door is decorated with cobwebs. There are two little jack-o-lanterns on either side of it and a couple fake, mechanically flickering torches temporarily mounted on the walls. After you knock on the door and announce the proper Trick-or-Treat! plea, Professor Winter answers the door, dressed as Hit Girl.
  
• Your character must be in costume - Otherwise, she will turn you away!

  • Professor Winter seems to want you to work for your candy. Give her your best ROAR!
    
  • Roll a 1d4:
    
    • 1: Your roar is awful. She grudgingly gives you 1 candy for trying.
      
    • 2: You manage to make a sufficient amount of noise. You get 2 candies from her!
      
    • 3: Your roar echoes off the walls, and startles a few students down the way. 3 candies!
      
    • 4: It was so loud that it actually knocked one of the fake torches off the wall! Winter is impressed. Have 4 candies.
      
  • Once you've gotten your candies from Winter, you may move on! Any attempts to linger near her office will be taken as an invitation for surprise homework. Best get moving!
