Witty Punching Bag

PostPosted: Mon Oct 26, 2015 9:32 pm
Rhys had finally escaped from what he now dubbed as The Maze from Gnome Hell and caught sight of some other students going around with bags of candy, trick-or-treating and even in costume. It seemed a bit redundant in his mind, but with a sigh he went ahead and rummaged around what looked to be a safe place to rummage and garnered himself a discarded nurse costume. When he opened up the loosely re-sealed packaging he realized why it had been discarded--it was skimpy. Quite literally all that was inside was the too-small tube top that didn't look like it would cover a whole lot of anything and equally miniscule mini skirt that made up the "uniform" proper, a little nurse's cap with the red cross on it, and what looked like a spooky version of a stethoscope.

Beggars, however, clearly couldn't be choosers. So with a grumble he found an appropriately private room and changed.

As he walked about with his sack of candy (thanks to the generous gnome) he found himself vaguely wondering how in the hell girls put up with this kind of thing. It was too drafty and fabric got wedged in places fabric had no business being in. He felt oddly exposed...and he didn't like it. Not to mention he wasn't sure how any of the teachers would take the "costume."

Ms. Caroline

Rhys made his way around, kind of familiarizing himself with the school and such and managing to not find any place with trick-or-treating students. He was about ready to give up and change back into less revealing clothing when he saw some students giggling their way out of what was, he realized when he approached and entered the room, the cafeteria. It was decorated and rather impressive, so he slowly made his way inside, through the doors in the back that led him straight into what was apparently an office of some kind. Upon sighting the teacher, he blinked and watched her expectantly, then said in his best (but horrid) girlish voice, "Trick or treat!"

Ms. Caroline

He was made to repeat his "trick or treat" a number of times until Ms. Caroline was satisfied, and then promptly ushered to a table that was equipped to decorate a boatload of cupcakes. Rhys wasn't much of a chef but he'd dressed cupcakes before so he got to work. He was working more with a "cater to the children" mindset (because he was channeling his high school home ec teacher, who insisted that cupcakes be cute for the children) and managed to decorate one rather plainly, with a smiling pumpkin on a white-icing background. One look at Ms. Caroline told him that she was not pleased...

So he tried again, this time opting for darker icing and going with a spider web and a spider-like candy topping to go on top. While he was pretty satisfied with his work, Ms. Caroline still didn't look particularly happy with his work. Still, she dropped a single candy into his bag. He wasn't sure whether to be thankful for not, so he thought he might try again.

Ms. Caroline

His next cupcake effort was once again draped in dark colors and spooky sorts of candy toppings, with the end-result being vaguely that of a demon's face in the icing. It wasn't spooky enough to garner him more than just one more candy from the woman, so with a girlish-voiced thanks he gathered up his sack of candy and went on his way.

Professor Darcy

Rhys was going through the halls again, navigating his way to sources of candy by simply following after students who were holding bags and trick-or-treating as well. It proved a rather effective method, as he found himself soon before a large doorway in what seemed like an old lecture hall. It smelled like...well, a school...and, while the room itself didn't look particularly decorated it was certain much darker than any room was supposed to be. He peeked through the doorway and could only see someone (he heard the students that were leaving calling him by he name "Professor Darcy") working behind a desk that had a bowl of candy on the edge. Beyond that, just darkness, and an odd mist that made him unable to see the floor.

"Uh...trick or treat?" Rhys tried to say to get his attention.

Professor Darcy

The response was curt; the Professor didn't even look up from his paperwork when he told Rhys to just grab some candy if he wanted some. There was no telling what that mist-covered floor was hiding, and with the first rule of his "Rhys's Halloween Rules" list being "don't touch a ********' thing" he couldn't bring himself to take that first step forward. So he cleared his throat and told the Professor as much, then waited.

Professor Darcy stopped his work for a moment and looked at him, then to his surprise the Professor got up, walked over and dropped a number of pieces into his bag. Now, he wasn't sure if it was his honesty or his costume, but all the same Rhys felt a bit better about failing at those cupcakes earlier. He gave a brief thanks to the professor and moved on.

(Part-Time) Professor Kenner

The next "office" he followed some trick-or-treating students to didn't feel quite as spooky as Prof. Darcy's office, but the massive mummy in a tutu was certainly eye-catching. He snickered a bit at the sight of it and the sound of its cackle as he made his way inside and mustered another, "Trick or treat!" for the professor's benefit.

He was instructed to search for his pieces of candy to earn it, so with a bit of a grumble Rhys set out to searching. He made sure not to bend over or do anything that would cause his costume to expose too much of his golem-self (some other students already hooted and hollered and he nearly started a fight before he remembered why they were doing that in the first place), and eventually he came across a dusty piece in a light fixture. Quickly he dropped it into the bag, waved his thanks to the professor and carried on with his little school-wide adventure. It was a great way to at least get famliar with the layout of the school, right?

Professor Pyre

The next office seemed more dungeon-esque than the others, which suited Rhys just fine. Actually he though it was kind of cool, though he didn't say anything. Instead he fixed his skirt and cleared his throat to loosen it up for girlish mode again. Soon enough he offered up the customary greeting and made his way inside, blinking at the cauldron on the wooden desk as if it would magically spit out candy if he repeated the greeting.

For reasons unknown Rhys hadn't taken notice to the creature that was standing over the cauldron until the professor mentioned it, and when he finally did take notice all he could do was stare at it. It stared back and watched him for a time, then as if in annoyance it reached into the cauldron, plucked out a piece of candy and threw it at his face. He felt the treat hit him on the forehead and land squarely right into his bag of candy, but all he could do to protest was glare at the thing before he turned to leave. Clearly these creatures were as moody as they were explode-y. But at least instead of a scare he got some candy this time.

Professor Red

The next "office" was even less of an office than the last one, with nothing but a door in the middle of the room and a table with Professor Red behind it, and a tea set perhaps to pass the time with. Rhys approached and was directed straight to the door after he offered up a half-hearted "trick or treat" to her. It looked normal enough, and he took a few seconds to inspect around it before stepping through.

The door apparently led to a candy-land of sorts, with rolling, powder-topped chocolate hills and lollipop trees and whatever else someone thought of to fill the land with. All manner of candy and treats, everywhere. It was actually kind of cool, and Rhys wandered for a time, though he felt a bit different. His reflection in an opaque, jelly-like stone seemed to be a misty version of an actual nurse dressed as skimpily as the costume, which made him grumble somewhat but he was over it by now.

All was well until someone approached him. They looked exactly as his reflection had, only instead of mist it looked like a gummy bear version of his costumed self, decorated with various candies to make up the uniform, hat, and stethoscope. It carried with it a lollipop stick, and grinned at him menacingly.

Professor Red

It lashed out at him first, so he grabbed a nearby peppermint stick weapon of his own and struck back, nicking its nurse's cap clear of its head when his weapon made contact with its face.

The gummy-version struck him square in the gut next, but as he was keeled over he managed to whirl his peppermint stick, much the way he used his sword, down to sweep the thing right off its feet. He stomped it rightly on the stomach as payback before stepping back.

His next attack missed but in the scuffle he managed to find himself flat on his back, winded from some attack or another. Great.a
