Purple eyes squinted as Oirfideach Fáin tried to peer past the border markings. Curiosity had brought him here, and fascination kept him. A pride of warriors, claiming descent from the gods, demanding proof of worthiness if a stranger wanted to be anything but the lowest of them. He knew he was worthy, and he wanted to know their stories. He'd been wandering for his name long enough to know a thing or two about fighting to make his way in, or so he thought.

Azrael was on patrol, watching for those that might wish to join. He enjoyed challenging those that came, chasing off the unworthy and escorting in the worthy after a good fight. It was a fun way to pass the time between Vikings. Ahead he spotted a new comer just over the border and smiled to himself. "Do you wish to fight for entrance, Stranger?"

Fain flipped a bit of long mane out of his eyes as he looked over the other male. So this would be who was testing him today? Not bad, he certainly looked the part of a fighter. The less-martial newcomer would have a fight on his paws. "I do. Claws sheathed, or bare?" Spirits be with me, he thought, dropping into a more prepared stance.

Azrael should tell the male to stop being silly and put out his claws, but the way he stood made the Reaver hesitate a little. The other male did not look like a fighter, so perhaps he should let him try with claws sheathed and get a feel for the fighting. The male might not win today, but even if he did not, it would give him an idea of what he faced. The Reaver nodded to the other male. "I will let you off easy today, claws sheathed. Let us see what you can do." Azrael was glad no one else was around to see what he was doing. While his SISTER might agree with him that giving the male a little break was in order, most of the others would call him soft. The mostly black male was more interested in testing the male's skill than in beating the living crap out of him, or injuring him to 'teach him better' than to come here. They needed new blood, and not all new blood was intended to be Reavers.

Fain noted the hesitation, the thought given to his question, and he was bracing for a bit of bloodshed when his opponent surprised him by acceding to sheathed claws. He got the feeling that this wasn't the usual way of it, and he thought it might make the other uncomfortable to draw attention to it--but he was grateful. "Let's begin, then." He leapt forward, going on the offensive. A brightly colored paw flew out, attempting to strike.

Azrael watched every move the male made and tried to dodge the first strike. He did not manage to get away completely, but it was a glancing blow. With no claws out, the strike pretty much just slide off the Reaver without an issue. The reaver was liking what he was seeing so far in the other male so he hoped it continued. He always hoped that those that challenged him would make it into the pride, but he never went easy on testing their skills. Azrael lunged for his first strike, going for the other male's feet to see if he could get him on the ground. Some lions did not remember to plant their footing well enough, and Az always took advantage of that if he could. Too many fights with his sister had taught the male that he had to be prepared for anything, and so he tested that in others.

It was a glancing hit, but Fain stumbled all the same. He was able to retain enough of his balance to avoid a fall, but adrenaline still shot through him. Maybe he'd been too hasty to dive right in... Retreating a little, he tried to reassess the fight, hoping to dodge the next attack and find a better angle from which to approach his foe. Whether or not the reaver gave him that chance was anyone's guess--the former swamplander had a feeling that he wouldn't have much time to think it over. Kathryn Dragonna Whoops I forgot this was here, I should tag this yes.
