POKER-FACED WORKAHOLIC
Ripley's whole life revolves around his career. He eats, breathes and sleeps funeral services. He doesn't seem to understand the concept of a day off, because there is always something to do for someone else, and there's always a grieving someone who needs to lean on him. He takes the responsibilities of his job very, very seriously, and it often shows. He is a quiet, observant man who prefers to keep his thoughts to himself, and over the years learned to keep his expressions in check. He is friendly enough of course, it just might be difficult to figure out how he really feels at any given moment.
YOUR PAIN COMES FIRST
The downside of being a workaholic is that he takes his job to heart, and pushes aside his own needs because of it. In his mind, anything in regards to his own personal life, he can do later. This family needs him now, these bookmarks need to be done now, so that is where he is going to be now.
This, of course, is very unhealthy. Most of the time, later never comes naturally.
As the years marched on he drifted further and further away from his friends and hobbies. Plans are remorsefully cancelled. Projects are left to collect dust. The very things that helped him cope and rebuild at the end of a particularly rough day were slowly cut out of his life. He's withdrawn deeply into himself on a personal level, and put up some metaphorical walls in the process. He is friendly on the surface - though perhaps a little terse in speaking - but he seems very empathetic to others and truly does care. He just keeps his own stress and loneliness, that fragile part of himself that is hurting for a day away, an uninterrupted sleep, or a warm confidant, locked away.

xxxxxx - His funeral home always gets its supplies locally as often as it can, as their goal is to support the community in any way possible.
xxxxxx - While friendly enough, he's also very quiet, and prefers to speak in as short of sentences as possible. It's rare to catch him rambling.
xxxxxx - It's also rare to hear him talk about himself; he is a very private man.
xxxxxx - Despite this, he meticulously keeps a daily journal in a ledger/record book. It's become a habit.
xxxxxx - He has seven years worth of these ledgers, all of which are unlabelled and on a bottom shelf in his room.
Funeral Home Life:
xxxxxx - When he was young, he helped out by setting up flowers in the visitation rooms and cleaning the place when he had nothing else to do.
xxxxxx - When he was old enough to work, he decided to work at a nearby florist part-time.
xxxxxx - Once he got his driver's license, he applied to his father's funeral home with a resume, interview and everything.
xxxxxx - He was hired as a Funeral Assistant, and was held to the same standards as the non-family employees.
xxxxxx - After high school, he moved out of Ashdown briefly to attend mortuary school.
xxxxxx - (This decision delighted his Father, but mildly horrified his Mother, who to this day claims she wouldn't even wish this job on her enemies)
xxxxxx - Worked part-time at a corporate funeral home near the school, until he got his Funeral Director & Mortician License.
xxxxxx - Once licensed, he returned to his family's funeral home and was re-hired as a full-time FD/Mortician. Has been there ever since.
xxxxxx - He plans on taking over the funeral home when his father retires, and is currently being groomed to do so.
Living Quarters:
xxxxxx - Victor and Marianne live in the apartment above the funeral home itself.
xxxxxx - Ripley lives in an apartment in a nearby complex, at the request of his Mother. It's her attempt to give him a life outside of the business.
