|
 STRUGGLING PASTRY CHEF
With a cheerful smile and a habit of treating even strangers like old friends, Acacia keeps up a demeanor just as sweet as the pastries she's decided to make a career out of. There's a bit of steel under it all, though, and while she might not go out looking for a fight, she's not afraid to take charge and speak her mind when she feels she has to. Nothing really seems right in the world since her bakery burned down, but she's struggling to pull herself together and see what comes next.
UP IN FLAMES
As soon as she was old enough to be taught how, Acacia took to baking like it was her one and only calling in life. She baked when she was stressed, when she was happy, to celebrate, to cheer others up, until it was clear she didn't really need an excuse to want to, just a mouth to feed the results. When she graduated high school and then set off to college pursuing culinary arts, no one was the least bit surprised. And after a devastating break up with her fiance and too many years of getting caught up in her brother's mistakes, the real surprise had been that she'd come back at all afterwards.
But after several years working for various restaurants and bakeries here and there for experience, she'd made her return to Ashdown and immediately set to work on getting her own bakery started. Piece of Cake made its grand opening and settled into a good business, the culmination of Acacia's hopes and dreams. At least it had been until about a week ago, when it burned to the ground overnight for reasons unknown.
Just like that, all her hard work gone. Devastated doesn't even begin to cover how she feels, really, but she's struggling to make sense of things and get back on track to setting her life back up. There's just so much to sort through and she's not sure what to do with herself in the meantime. There's a part of her that even wonders if this is a sign that she's just not meant to do what she wants in life, that maybe even if she gets another bakery running, it'll just go up in flames all over again.
STEADILY SWEET
No matter what goes into them or how long they get left in the oven, Acacia's pastries always taste like sugary perfection. Even experimental recipes that honestly shouldn't have turned out well and cakes that are without a doubt burnt turn out tasting just fine. Of course, it doesn't do anything for how these mistakes look, but anyone brave enough to eat them anyway will be pleasantly surprised.
ANYTHING ELSE?
- 27 years old and about 5'5" without heels.
- Very superstitious. When something unexpected happens, it means something. Although she doesn't tend to think of herself as a pessimist, she almost always assumes it must mean something bad, especially after recent circumstances.
- Has an older brother named Mikael who helps their dad run an old gym. They didn't get along much growing up, thanks to his knack for getting into fights at every possible moment with what seemed like every possible person. She got hurt once, when someone with a grudge decided to take it out on his family, and Mikael has spent the years since trying to clean up his life and make it up to her. He means well, but sometimes even his help is a trouble all its own.
- She was engaged to her high school sweetheart for a few years after they graduated, but he abruptly called it off and disappeared out of her life. She tries not to think about him, but she also didn't really think about coming home until after she happened to hear he'd left town, coincidence or not.
