It appears only at night during the weeks that lead up to Halloween. At first people pay it no attention until they realize that much like how the Shore Mansion disappeared, a strange house appeared out of nowhere. Looking for it during the light of day is impossible because it’s never there until after sunset.

The house looks old and rickety, as if a strong wind could blow it over. Hay bales and pumpkins and spider webbing decorate the front of the house. Candles glint in the darkened windows and there is a sign on the front door.

PRIZES AWAIT THOSE BRAVE SOULS
WHO FACE THE HORRORS WITHIN!

It’s a hallway. There is only one way to go and you’re not sure how it even works because you could have sworn there were windows on either side that looked into a living room. A table sits to the side, a rocking chair next to it. The lights flicker and go out. It’s when they come back on that you realize you’re not alone.

Something is behind you and a door down the way creaks open. A clown. He smiles. There are too many teeth.

Darcie saw the haunted house and rolled her eyes. She was a person of the night, what could a haunted house really do to her? She did give the house's rickety frame a look tho, she might not be afraid of monsters and stuff, but a house cave-in would be really dangerous. Darcie watched as other people made their way into the house. Well, she wasn't one to back down, and other people trusted it, so she stepped forward to enter the house.

Darcie entered the house only 30 seconds after the door closed behind a couple that entered. She looked around, a little confused, she was sort of hoping she would get to see the man freak out on his girlfriend, but there was no one inside besides her. She looked the room over, a little confused about the windows disappearing. Darcie shook her head, they probably covered up the windows in paper or cardboard. Yes, Darcie told herself, there was nothing too weird here. Darcie walked down the hallway, but felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise as she reached for the doorknob. Instinctively she turned around. The clown-thing was a mere two inches from her shoulder. A sharp intake of breath was all Darcie managed to do before she grasped the doorknob and thrust the door open, intent on getting away from the creeper.

Lightning flashes across the sky and you can see it through the skylights that are part of the ceiling of this room. It’s a dining room with wax figures sitting at the table and forever caught in what looks like an animated discussion of politics.

You assume it’s politics. There’s a television in the corner that looks like there’s a debate playing. It’s possibly scarier than what appears next as you turn your gaze to the door that opens. A clown. He smiles. There are too many teeth.

Darcie slammed the door shut and leaned her back against the wall, listening intently for the creature on the other side. Finally, when Darcie deemed the thing gone, she let out her held breath. As she finally turned to the next room she jumped a little. When the figures proceeded to stay still she wiped the sweat from her palms and smiled weakly. Darcie moved towards the figures, poking them, and feeling the oily wax surface each statue had. They were cold, so Darcie was sure they were not alive, waiting to jump-scare her again. Darcie rolled her shoulders, trying to get the tension out, when she heard something breathing. Darcie grinned, had she missed one of the statues and now it was standing up? No, it was the same clown as before. Darcie screamed a curse and made her way out of the room, her breathing quick and short.

... it’s a room of ghosts, actual ghosts. Except that they’re college students lounging about on couches. One of them is doing caricatures and another pair plays beer bong. You’re absolutely not interesting to them at all. There’s another ghost in the corner by the door that opens. It seems kind of pervy.

Also it’s pointing to something behind you. A clown. He smiles. There are too many teeth.

Darcie closed the door and moved to the center of this new room. At first she froze seeing the ghosts, but as they minded their own business she relaxed a bit. A shiver ran down the girl's body and she pulled her coat tighter around herself. She giggled as one ghost missed the cups entirely on the game of beer pong, and she moved forward. It was actually a little comforting to see people, well, not real people, but close enough, relaxed and lounging. The clown was surly just some kid in a costume, Darcie assured herself. As she looked for the door to the next room one of the boys looked right at her and pointed to something behind her. Darcie froze a little, she did not want to turn around. As if on its own, her body turned around. There, a few inches from the back of her head was the clown, again. Darcie let out a high-pitched scream and ran for the nearest door, her arms and legs just barely working enough for her to trip into the next room.

Somehow you’ve found yourself in a garden?! Fog rolls in and despite looking you cannot, for the life of you, find the fog machine. The moon is strangely full (even if it’s not the night of the full moon) and it’s reflection is clear in the water of the fountain in front of you.

A pair of skeletons sit together on a bench, their heads together as if they died while conversing with each other. You ignore them until you hear bones creak and they both point to the hidden doorway that leads out.

This time it’s something out of the corner of your eye that catches you off guard as you’re trying to slip away. Your shadow grows behind you, taking shape into something eldritch and unspeakable.

Darcie just barely managed to keep upright as she stumbled into the next room. The girl slammed the door she had just entered by shut, tears threatening to drip down her cheek. Darcie looked at where she was now, and sighed in relief. A garden, with plants and nature. She instantly felt more at ease, how she always felt when surrounded by the purity of nature. Darcie blinked, sending a single tear down each cheek. She wiped them away on her sleeve and walked around the garden to investigate. The skeletons on the bench made Darcie smile weakly. She had had to study the human skeleton a lot when she was perusing her biology degree, and it almost felt like she was back on canvas. She scoped the room, admiring the moon and the fog, when she heard a creak. She looked back down at the skeletons. One had its arm in a different position now, pointing towards a doorway Darcie hadn't noticed before. Darcie pulled her jacket around herself, zipping up the front, and neared the doorway. She heard another creak of bones, and looked back at the skeletons from the corner of her eye. The skeletons were gone tho, and the room seemed to grow black. Suddenly the clouds let a drop of moonlight shine into the room. Darcie tried to scream, but her voice was gone. The black seemed to form something she could not all the way conceive. The drop of moonlight revealed only a smidgen of the thing that was behind her, but that was enough. Darcie was paralized, staring at what little of the thing she could see. The clouds passed over again, and the spell was lifted. Darcie was able to move and she sprinted the last few feet too the door. In her fear she fumbled with the doorknob, and a sound behind her seemed to grow louder. Finally, Darcie managed to work the door open. She shut the door behind herself and collapsed.

You enter a pitch black room. The floor seems to feel solid and flat under your feet but waving your arms touches nothing. There is music blasting and the chaotic sound of many people talking; the noises of a party. You don’t touch or bump anyone, though as you walk voices get closer and farther to your ears as if you are truly passing through a crowd.

The techno music comes to a head, there is a siren, a sudden light goes off revealing the exit. The invisible crowd cheers but something grabs you before you reach the door ... A puppy and a kitten hiding under a witch’s hat. They are horribly cute and playing together.

Darcie lay on the ground, the sounds of other humans comforting her. The girl's mind spun. She could barely perceive where she was at all, the images of the creature from the previous room corrupting her sanity. Slowly Darcie stood up and made her way through the room, her mind empty and blank. She stumbled towards the door, simply doing the movements of walking, her mind unable to connect back to the rest of her. She raised her hand to the next doorknob, praying it led to outside. Before she managed to put a hand on the doorknob she felt something tug at her pants leg. Against her better judgement she turned around to address whatever had stopped her. A small kitten had playfully snagged Darcie, and was batting with the fabric it had captured playfully. Darcie sank to her knees, and swept up the kitten, tears poring down her cheeks. A few more kittens, and some puppies came over to her, curious as to what the commotion was. Darcie sank into the cuddly pile of puppies and kittens, relief and exhaustion washing over her. She stayed there, for what felt like seconds and days, hugging the soft sweet creatures to her chest, letting their innocence heal her. Finally, Darcie wiped the tears from her face and stood up. One kitten refused to leave, and latched onto her pants. Darcie giggled weakly and opened the next door. Her body seemed to step over the threshold on its own, and Darcie found herself outside the house, the kitten still attached to her pant leg. Darcie picked up the little thing, and made her way back home, exhausted by the craziness that had just occurred.
