TASK MECHANICS
NUCLEAR REACTION (PART 1)

gaia_crown [ LOCATION ]

    Chernobyl, Ukraine (1 of 2)

gaia_crown [ SETTING ]

"The site of the Chernobyl Disaster, the abandoned city has long been a place of renown. However it maintains gated fences to keep out would be thrill seekers and riffraff. The hunter base here is small and constantly cycles the one manning it. However there are numerous traps laid across the area for FEAR creatures such a horsemen, and the one hunter in charge of the base is nothing to shake a stick at. The buildings overgrowth, and the general lack of FEAR from anyone nearby means for horsemen it's not a cake walk- they'll be on their own.

The hunter has taken refuge in an abandoned children's school, the posters and drawings tainted and worn with age, color faded and muted. Yet everything is small here, and the halls don't allow for flight or much mobility. Plus the scattered debris of tiny desks and school supplies mean that the floor itself is a hazard for running. The playground outside is no better, brush making the ground difficult to tread and trees making the sky near impossible to gain advantage. The Hunter has the advantage of knowing the paths, but you have the advantage of sheer power. The key shall be mastering one's use of FEAR in..explosive ways."

gaia_crown [ MISSION ]

A city abandoned by humans due to their own foolishness, it now stands and rots from it's very core. Hunters have long held a small base here and have always changed who stays-making their defenses weak, we can take this place for ourselves Yet there are many traps set up as a precaution. Moving quickly and efficiently go in and get out. Though it cannot harm us, the place has long been devoid of enough humans to be worth investment, and so lacks FEAR to maintain us. Images of rot and decay shall aid you in this day's mission.

gaia_crown [ MECHANICS ]

Roll 1d10 to evade the traps, find the hunter and defeat them! If you run out of HP before finding the hunter or die while fighting the hunter, you've failed and must start over.

  1. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in the playground! (60 HP / 5 autodamage)
  2. A runic dagger attached to a spring is sent flying into your side (-5 HP
  3. Running after the hunter you stumble and fall over a child's desk (-3 HP)
  4. The sound of children's laughter echos down the halls. As you get closer to the hunter you realize it's not coming from them. An odd sense of not being the only one present touched you breifly before vanishing.
  5. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in the hallway!
  6. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in the classroom!
  7. The sound of a siren rings out, loud and too close for comfort. In your shock the hunter manages to get further from your reach, seeming unfazed by the noise.
  8. The tight corner the hunter took came unexpectedly, and you slide into a chalkboard. Aside from the pain you are now dusted white. (-3 HP plus coated in a fine white dust)
  9. A bear trap hidden in old school supplies on the floor, your foot caught burns as the runes drain your FEAR. (-3 HP, roll a 1d6 to escape, even you escape, odd you remain stuck. For each failed roll take -1HP on top of the initial 3)
  10. Boss Fight! The hunter has taken refuge in a gym! (60 HP / 5 autodamage)

OPTIONAL CHOICE: After you kill the hunter, you sense a lingering spirit in the school. If you so want, chase the spirit down and either devour them for FEAR or ask them to lead you to the hunter's hidden base. (See part 2 for the bonuses and drawbacks of this OPTIONAL choice)

gaia_crown [ BONUS MECHANICS ]

Please apply these bonuses based on your clan:

    • If gym, winged horsemen do +2 damage for each successful hit being able to slightly fly around. If also horned, the bonus is null.
    • If playground, horned horsemen do +2 damage for each successful hit due to their natural avoidance of spaces that would hinder their headspace (IE jungle gyms). Null if the horseman also has wings.
    • If hallway, horsemen lacking in horns or wings +2 damage for each successful hit due to having no body altering shapes that might obstruct their path.

gaia_crown [ REWARDS ]

+1 rp points for completing it!

After she had taken some time to heal and rethink her strategy, she decided to move out to another location where she heard another Hunter had been holed up. She had heard of the human disaster that had ravaged the area some time ago. Since that time, nothing hard really thrived in the broken area and abandoned human buildings stood uninhabited to this day. Rotting from the inside, and well deserved from the humans who were stupid enough to play with powers they had no idea how to control.

The information they had was that the Hunter burrowed themselves in. Not even a day prior had she attempted to extract one from a prison, only to be overwhelmed by the strange metal tech they possessed. This time she was more determined to burn the bottom of the tick to get it out. Stretched in front of her was the debris from a time long before. Toys were scattered over the front of the school building as she crept closer to it, pushing the door open which creaked open and clattered as it hit the wall behind it.

Inside the air was stale, unmoved for several years and she moved slowly inside. This time she would be far more wary of the sentries posted in the area, especially the ones with the red lights. So far so good as she moved close to the floor, looking in the dark corners for the likely places that they could be hidden in. Another step. Iyari didn't see one and cautiously moved.

A snapping noise caught her attention but before she could move she got tangled in school supplies, her foot securely caught. Hissing in pain, she glared down at the trap and cursed at herself for letting it get caught. Glowing, the trap started to syphon out her FEAR and she pulled against it. "Damn things." She managed to say through her gritted teeth.

9: A bear trap hidden in old school supplies on the floor, your foot caught burns as the runes drain your FEAR. (-3 HP, roll a 1d6 to escape, even you escape, odd you remain stuck. For each failed roll take -1HP on top of the initial 3)

A quick thrust of her powerful wings helped to loosen the trap and she was out of it quickly enough, eyes blazing with rage. Annoyance was mild, this was becoming infuriating. After such a long time out of the field she thought it would be easier to adjust back into it. Clearly there was nothing that could compare to in-the-field training for such purposes. Bitterly she cursed herself for spending all of those hours on her own, sharpening tools... it helped her with her ability to use the weapons, but hadn't kept her knowledge up in terms of the human world.

Pick yourself up and go.

Literally a moment after getting free of one she felt her other foot become clamped and she glared down at it. She'd recently become a chieftain, which meant death from above. Maybe because she was becoming hopelessly useless on the ground.

This time she pried herself free with her hands, moving back and staring at the seared marks on her. They burned, sure, but nothing was getting THAT hurt, save for her pride. This is a routine mission. I took out one hunter, why am I having such trouble now? Quickly, she moved on. If she allowed herself to linger too long she would surely be trapped by either another trap or her thoughts, both of which didn't bode well for her.

After she dislodged herself she could see the fluttering jacket of the Hunter. Found you! Her eyes narrowed and she took off quickly after the human, rage in her eyes. She skid to a stop as the laughter of children took over her ears, echoing out from the stale air. For a moment she thought the Hunter might be the source, but as it moved out through the halls there was something else.

A cooling sensation washed over her and she felt the distinct presence of something nearby, turning to look where it might have gone, yet nothing remained. Iyari wondered if it was something like those in Halloween, the ghosts she had seen when moving through there. Yet this was distinctly different and left goosebumps on her skin.

The warrior didn't have time to overthink it since the Hunter had vanished again. She chose to continue her pursuit, though the feeling didn't leave her. Maybe later she would figure out where it came from properly.

Movement caught her eye and she was after the Hunter again, diving over a set of cubby holes and moving. Just as she was gaining she fell over a desk and the fluttering of the jacket disappeared again. Iyari growled lowly. Now it was just getting ridiculous.

Finally.

After taking a brief moment to regain her composure she stalked into the classroom where the Hunter had become trapped, turning back to face her. Iyari was shorter in stature to the female hunter, but she could tell that the woman was well equipped, toting an overly sized axe as her weapon. While it wasn't nimble, it wasn't something to sneer at.

Quickly, Iyari moved out her kopis blade to the Hunter, glaring into her eyes with a hint of death in them. She wasn't going to be kidding around with this one. Death was the only thing that would satisfy her bloodlust now.

Not to be underestimated, Iyari moved in with one of her more powerful attacks. Quickly, she moved in against the hunter, swinging and striking her blade multiple times in succession against her. The cries she made were joyous to her ears and she slashed over and over again. Red mist filled the air as she made slice after slice on the Hunter, only being forced back when the woman slapped at her with the butt of her axe and Iyari slid on the ground, glaring back at her while swinging her blade again. While she didn't speak a single word, her bright eyes said it all. This isn't over yet, not by a long shot.

She attempted another attack but the axe was slammed back into the ground and it distracted her since she was forced to move back out of the way again, growling angrily back at the Hunter. While she had started slow, her opponent was picking up speed now, probably due to the fact she was openly bleeding. Iyari rolled away from another attack, looking for another opening to exploit.

Once the barrage died down Iyari screamed with the core of her body and lunged into another attack, this time barely grazing as she moved back, panting due to her use of FEAR. It was dwindling now, but she wasn't done with her surprises just yet. While she was tired and drained her adrenaline moved through her. She wanted to slice through the Hunter and leave a bloody mess for her comrades to find.

She could feel herself getting closer to being pulled back again. Not again. It was so bittersweet this time. The Hunter was here, right in front of her. After all of the stalking after her she had gotten her here, cornered but not out. Maybe it was due to the fact she was cornered that she was fighting so hard for it. It was slowly dawning on her that perhaps the Hunter she had attacked hadn't been fighting her with all of his strength.

There was nothing for it now and she moved back, making a low screeching noise as she summoned her Ornate Eagle Hawk Mount above her, breaking clean open the roof as it screeched and she moved onto it, dive-bombing back down into the Hunter at full force. The human woman was taken aback and thrown to the other side of the classroom, but Iyari could see the gleam of her shield still up and she growled. Despite her best efforts, she was fighting an uphill battle with a Hunter that was far more skilled the last she'd come into contact with,

While frustrating, it was at least the in-the-field training she desperately needed. Though that didn't mean it didn't irk her any less.

It was clear to her now. Her screeching mount moved back up with her and she slapped down at the Hunter with her blade but it was thwarted by the large axe and she tumbled off of the mount again to the ground, feeling that same pull as pain irradiated from her body. Bloodied and beaten now, she glared back at the Hunter. It was becoming far obvious to her that this mission would not end with the death of the Hunter, which took another stab at her pride, but at least it would show their presence. Cause a disturbance. Anything at this point to assist her tribe was good enough for her.

As soon as her mount dropped her it faded back as her tired body was slammed against the wall. Blood poured down into her eyes from a cut on her head and she tried another attack, but the Hunter had done a successful job of being a goddamn tank and now was on the offensive. Iyari cursed under her breath and moved away again, glaring at the Hunter with hatred in her eyes... but the anger had to ebb. It had to give.

From somewhere in her past she heard the call of her mentor again talking about those rare occasions when retreat was necessary. That thought made her insides twist like she'd been stabbed. All of the cockiness she'd gathered from the encounter in the mist washed away from her. There was something humbling about that... but she'd have to reflect on that later when she was able to. Right now, she had more pressing matters to attend to.

Her moves were sluggish, tired and her vision blurred from the blood pouring into them. Iyari made the split decision and using her wings to gust dust towards the Hunter before diving out of the broken building. Happy that her mount had already rescinded, she moved back to the portal again, moving to it without a look back. She'd find her again, that was for sure, and when the time came she wouldn't be thrown off by their little traps, tricks and weaponry. No. This defeat had a purpose that a future version of herself could use. For now though, all she could do was lick her wounds before going back out yet again.
