Standing outside of what was the new location for the Court - that it was just right there from the other ashdown Police Department - was certainly odd. He glanced over to Algie, an eyebrow quirked.

"Shall we? Fell said she able to gain us an audience with Silk to discuss our new arrangements within the Court." His arm was offered out for Algie to take, the door pulled open to head inside.

Alg's hand curled around his husband's elbow and he straightened his glasses. He glanced up at the new Court and tilted his head, "May as well."

Things had shifted significantly since the Charter had been rewritten and both of them missed their own little corner of court. May as well go deal with that sooner rather than later.

Stepping within the Court, it was ... different. A glance went to his attire, curious to see what the magic worked with it and if that still remained. For the moment, he let that go, and let his feet lead them to where Silk's chambers were.

Jeremiah would have checked his watch, to make sure they were on time, but he trusted that they were since they had left to make the appointment.

Nothing about Jeremiah's attire changed. The few rare fetches they spotted seemed to dart away quickly, but Silk's office door was clearly labeled and open. So that was nice.

Silk looked up. "Fell told me the two of you would be coming," she said. "I presume this is about the changes to the Court?"

Alg watched the fetches scatter and wondered momentarily about it before they found the waiting and open door. Silk didn't look any less suited for this than she had in any other capacity he'd witnessed at Court.

"Yes," Alg nodded, "We fully intend to fill our roles as Nobles of the Court," New rules and all, "So we've come to inquire about space here."

Jeremiah looked towards Algie as he spoke and then to Silk gave a respectful nod. "We're not sure how the magic has changed yet, or how things have changed for us as Nobles, but reaffirming our places here and our intentions to continue serving needs to be done. Anything less is unacceptable."

Not just their space within the Court but that they would continue to serve this world as well.

"Take a seat," said Silk. "This will take a while." She gestured to the two chairs against the wall. Her expression wasn't particularly welcoming, but what else was new? "Your duties as Nobles have changed substantially, so we'll start there."

Alg nodded, breaking from Jeremiah's arm to take the offered seat. He'd never found that superfluous conversation got anyone far with Silk so once he settled he simply was quiet and waited to be given the rundown.

He couldn't help being mildly concerned about just how significant the changes were.

The only change that Jeremiah had discovered was that chronomancy had not affected him at all. Thankfully, at this point, he was back to carefully calculated scruff - just not as thick as he normally preferred but he wasn't a baby face anymore.

He took a seat himself, looking to Silk for to continue on.

"The noble courts were once judge, jury, and executioner," said Silk. "Now, you're none of those things. Your duties are to advocate for those other beings who approach you, and to assist where you are needed. When a warg identifies a threat and a moonwalker contains it, you and your peers will be entrusted in ensuring that the threat has been adequately assessed and fairly tried.

"Should there be interpersonal or territorial disputes between Otherbeings, you are entrusted with the power to mediate these discussions between them. If a fair conclusion cannot be reached through your own work, you may choose to bring a case to trial, and have it overseen by a Judge, who will direct your searches for the truth of the matter. You are not permitted to serve as a Judge.

"Finally, you're tasked with assisting the fetches with regaining their lives on the other side should they so wish it. You'd be responsible for creating a space for them in your world. How you do that is up to you." She pulled out a smaller book and opened it. "Do you agree to these tasks?"

Alg was quiet as the duties were listed and he turned the differences over in his mind. It was certainly less glamorous than the old Court but in retrospect, considering how their communal discussions had gone, it all fit into place.

Still, differences aside, some of it wasn't so different. There were still otherbeings that needed their help and problems on this side that they would help settle. They simple were not some higher class of visitor but delegators now.

"I do," He nodded, glancing at Jeremiah. Questions could follow but he didn't intend on abandoning his post.

While there were differences, this was more of a community - a group working together - than it had been before. It would not make things different for him in the long run. He would still continue as he did, helping the beings of this world and ensuring that the Court worked as it was meant to.

Advocacy was a good thing. Helping the fetches find a place in their world was as well. He had, after all, said he would help craft identities if needed. That trials were, for sure, going to be a thing was reassuring that they had done right with the magic.

"Yes, I agree to these tasks," his voice was firm, bright eyes looking towards Algie before focusing on Silk.

"Then what names would you like me to put down in the book? Keep in mind these are your magical names; whatever you put down here is what you'll use in the Court for all time."

He certainly didn't feel comfortable with people calling him by a title, though he preferred Professor to Noble or Lord. Thankfully Adze seemed to still be adhering to that wish.

Hopefully he wasn't supposed to concoct a magical, deep moniker because being put on the spot for that wasn't to his strengths.

"Algernon Mercer," His name of course would be what he wanted to be addressed by. He did not hyphenate, nor go by his own family name anymore, "Professor Mercer if given a choice in title." To distinguish him from the other Noble Mercer in the court.

It was practical, purposeful and did not elevate him to anything he was not.

Jeremiah thought of how it was Tailor sometimes and Mercer other times. It was a question for another time, something to worry about when this was not before them.

"Jeremiah Mercer," he replied, lips twitching a little at Algie requesting Professor if possible. Whereas he had once had issue with being addressed as Noble, he had gotten used to it. It was part of the job, just like he had gotten used to being called Chief.

"You mentioned Judges? Who will be serving?" Silk, he thought, would be a good candidate.
