In the second year of college, JC would eventually find his passion in the form of wrestling. But because this wasn't exactly lucrative, his parents saw it as a waste of time and forbade him from pursuing it as a career. The Family Business always came first, and at the start JC was fine with it. But as the difficulties in balancing his passion with his family's wants intensified, the Shadows became harder to ignore. To the point that he almost paralyzed his training partner during a particularly dangerous stunt.
Horrified of what he had almost done, JC quit rather than risk the life of a fellow wrestler because the Shadows kept messing with him. It's been a few years since then but the Shadows never left him alone.

Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter? As the middle child with an academically gifted older brother and an artistically gifted younger sister, JC had the curse of being the average kid. Which made him a failure in the eyes of his strict Fil-Chi parents. Being the only one to be able to see the Shadows did not help matters either but he learned to ignore the whispers. Of Shadows and of his parents, though the latter proved a lot harder for him.
The idea of being able to do something about the Shadows appealed to him. And so he signed up.

Extra: He continued to work out even after he quit wrestling so he's pretty toned.
