Scarlet strolled through the woods at a relaxed pace. The first blanket of snow covered the ground and a few lingering flakes fell from the sky here and there. Her breath crystallized and hung in the air in front of her. It was already dark despite not being very late in the afternoon as was common this time of year. However the nearly full moon rising above the snow blanketed branches of the evergreen trees that dominated the area cast a lovely glow that was magnified by the snow. It was nearly as bright as day even if the shadows were a little deeper. Scar huffed a small laugh at the irony. Bright light, dark shadows.
The soft squeaking crunch of the snow under her hooves always thrilled her. This, the first snow, always lit a light in her chest. She could have sworn she was glowing if her eyes hadn't told her otherwise. Of course, she kept her manner demure even though she was, assumedly, alone. She had learned at an early age to hide her true feelings lest they be used against her. It was a habit that had stuck and persisted even now. You never knew when someone else might be watching. Alone or not.
She came to a little clearing, the fresh fallen snow entirely undisturbed. With out a pause, and some mild satisfaction at being the first to mark that pristine white glistening surface, Scarlet strolled to the middle of the clearing where she stopped. She stood there mildly. Taking a moment to admire the moon and what stars were peeking through the last lingering snow clouds. The ground around her glistened, sparkled and shone. She felt as though she were standing in a field of diamonds.

The cheerful purple mare had been out in the brisk cold all day, searching as always for new ingredients to mix and try with her brews or to create her baskets with. This time it was for a brew she was still thinking of a name for. Aiesha was hoping for an interesting flavor when trying to use frozen berries and herbs, something new she hadnt tried before. Maybe it would be delicious! Maybe not! Everyday brought new adventure for her and she was happy with it.
Beautiful crystals floated down and tickled her nose making her squee happily and trot around like a filly. She wasnt too concerned about finding ingredients right away, she just wanted to have some fun! Filled with a lighthearted energy she sang merry winter tunes as she skipped along, nipping at snowflakes that randomly fell here and there!
Caught up in the winter splendor she took off at a swift canter, racing ahead into the shadows and moonlight. Giggling like a maniac she was she jumped into a beautiful clearing missed the landing with her claws and plummeted facefirst into the snow, giving herself a dainty white wash! "Oh MY!" She exclaimed with amusement. After wiping the snow off her scales she became lost in a giggle fit!

As Scar stood and pondered the night a chill breeze blew through the trees. It wasn't much of a bother to her as it ruffled her fluffy winter coat. She was relatively used to the cold of winter. However it did remind her that she might want to start looking for some place to take shelter for the night. "Just a moment more." she murmured to herself as she stood admiring the moon rising higher into the sky, making the already crystal gilded landscape glow even brighter.
Sleep might not be a thing tonight unless she found someplace that was very much sheltered. She didn't have much faith in that because most places would already be occupied by those that lived in the area. Mayhap she could convince someone to share for the night? It wouldn't be the first time she had ever had to employ such tactics.
Speaking, figuratively, of . . . her ears flicked as she picked up the sound of approaching hoof beats. Hoof beats in rythym, yes, but they were still slightly off. Like equine but not hooves. In a moment's time she assessed the probable threat and came up with nearly none. She turned her head to watch where the sound was coming from. When a purple mare burst from the trees and promptly face-planted, Scarlet had to stifle her chuckle. When the mare began to giggle she didn't feel quite so bad about her own near outburst.
Her mind quickly processed the situation and she decided that just maybe this mare might have a place to stay. Scarlet quickly trotted over to see if she could help. "Oh my goodness! Are you alright?" She let concern color her voice as she rushed over and started to help brush the snow off of her. "I just didn't know what to think when you came out of those trees and tripped! It looked horrible!" As the mare giggled she let a smile smile color her lips and lowered her lashes a bit. "Do you need help gettin home darlin?" The purple of the other mare's scales was really quite worthy of admiration. Her striping exquisite. "My name's Scarlet, by the way. Scarlet Elizabeth Hoarfrost. May I inquire as to your name darlin?" Manners tended to go a long way with others and not many could accuse Scarlet of being rude.
