Hunger drove an odd creature deep into unknown territory. At first glance the beast appeared to be nothing more than a normal black bear, slightly smaller than average but muscular. Except the horns, massive sharp pillars that jutted out of his skull and spine. A silky black coat was marred with fresh wounds, and old scars from battle. He was a sight, an imposing strange beast, but it wasn't a sight most lived to tell about.

Blackie stopped, tilting his muzzle up into the wind, feathers brushing against his cheek and his thick beard swaying from his chin. Food! Foodfoodfood, he could smell hem clearly now, but there were to many and they were all moving together. No good, to many, no shape for so many. The bear snarled and turned his large head to and fro, surely there was at least one traveling away from the main group.

He snarled no such luck, follow group, one fall behind!, he grinned proud of himself and pushed on, nose to the breeze sniffing always sniffing.

He stayed far enough behind the moving herd, that unless a member purposefully turned and ventured back they would never know a skinwalker stalked along behind them. Just waiting for someone to fall for enough behind the main group to make a clean separation.

He had hunted this way countless times, nobody would know what happened to their family or friend when they strayed to far from the safety of the group. The mad creature used everything and left no evidence behind. Since a majority of his time was spent in bear form only the lightest of his treasures adored his body; the rest of them stored in his den where they were safe.

Treasure! .. food ... his basic instincts to hunt and collect drove him on, mile from home after this band of soquili.

Ruche stood still and quiet as he watched his foraging group mover further away into the forest. They had come this far together, but as always they split and went their own ways at the old oak. When everyone was finished for the day they would meet back up here. Just like they always did.

Despite the frost in the air and the powdering of snow on the ground there was always something to forage. His companions would return with baskets full of rosehips, juniper, seeds, and mushrooms. All sorts of winter foods to bolster their supplies and brew into hot tea. Ruche hadn't brought a basket today. After all, he didn't plan to return with anything.

Once the voices had faded into the distance he turned and made his way through the woods. He'd walked this route so many time now that little desire paths were beginning to form on the ground. As he rounded the bend he came up to his first stop, ears perking up as the hands around his neck reached out to pat at the low hanging hive. The little bees were all sleeping now. There would be no honey to collect until the spring came and the flowers bloomed again.

The phantom hands at his neck weren't strong enough to pull the hive down so he let them touch it. Rocking it just a little as they tried to turn it in place. When they couldn't do that they just started patting at the hive instead. Ruche chuckled to himself then turned to head further down the path.

Spring couldn't come soon enough.
