            RENstrawberry (Madison)
            Score: 7.5
Comments: Pros: The colors are lovely. Love seeing the use of all three colors, and combining them well! It's also a lovely outfit, I can tell that Madison is supposed to be a witch even without reading the description.
Cons: I don't like the dark...tree? at the right of the image. It's a large lump of dark that is definitely not dark purple, orange, or green. Also not sure I love the way her braid layers with the hat and veil, but I don't hate it either. Could do without the green jewel on her forehead, even if it does tie in elsewhere.
All said though, this is a great first entry.

            Empress Ekko (Copper)
            Score: 6.5
Comments: Pros: Her hair doesn't stick out like a sore thumb! It's a beautiful look. She didn't clash oranges.
Cons: The dang teal in in the back is incredibly distracting. The shoes are a heavy handed balance on bottom, I don't like them. Honestly I think Miserable shoes and just the orange necklace would have been better. The headband is a little off. And this absolutely doesn't say ball to me, it says cocktail hour or elegant evening. Like a fancy black tie dinner where people schmooze others for money.
I know this sounds harsh, especially for the first challenge, and it isn't that bad. Just simple.

            Tink_Bel (Zahara)
            Score: 9.5
Comments: Ah, Tink! Just knocking it out of the park. Love this so much, loved it as soon as it was posted, and have only loved it more as others were posted. Kind of in a league of it's own.
            Pros: Everything.
Cons: The green across her hair is a little bit bright compared to everything else, would have also liked to see some more of the sage around her shoulders located farther down. Also wish the white pretty across her center weren't there.

            METTAT0N (Trinity)
            Score: 5.5
Comments: Pros: This avatar is cute. The glasses are good, and honestly I kind of like seeing Trinity as a bunny.
Cons: The background...it isn't good. Yeah, it ties in the colors, but it just gets messy. There's too much on the head, doesn't look great, it's just...eh. And the description.
Over all..it's cute. But it isn't impressive. And the description..good lord it needs work.

            l Have Given Up (Xoco)
            Score: 7.5
Comments: Xoco looks amazing in this color. It's rich and vibrant all at once on her, without being over whelming.
Cons: The few gold spots are a bit off, and I'm not sure I love the swirls and such at the bottom. Description could also use some work, but for the first challenge, it's not the worst.

            khionna (Veronica)
            Score: 8
Comments: It is definitely green and purple. The greens and purples match with just the right other accents. There is a bit more black in the look than I would have liked to see, and the face looks entirely empty and awkwardly so. But I do love this toxic look.

            botticellis venus (Dita)
            Score: 7
Comments: This is a challenging color scheme. It's an absolutely beautiful scheme, rich, and they're beautiful together. But. The orange is a bit too gold in a lot of places, and the purple strays from purple a bit. First challenge though, I think it counts as purple and orange. The arm mod is odd though, and I hate the card that is supposedly in front of her fact. Looks like she's eating the card to absorb whatever fate it has to tell. I hope to see the descriptions improve.

            Destined Savior (Brooke)
            Score: 4
Comments: I don't like it. This is a prime example where only submitting one view, and not every view, would have helped immensely. Because there is nothing purple about the cloak. Not one drop of purple. And showing the back views it's hella distracting. I think the dress errs towards purple...but the hat errs towards blue. And there is so much black. And gold. And the background is just...and the description. I also detest the rose at the mouth..not a good mod. I don't like it. And I'm very sad that I don't like it, because I think Savior has a lot of potential.

            Kiwi Cannoli (Kate)
            Score: 8
Comments: The colors are entirely appropriate, and there is only the slightest hint of a white ruffle at the bottom of the skirt and sole of the boot, but don't even care. Especially as compared to some of the others, because it is so nice. I like the subtle orange flowers, and I like the variety of greens, even if they're a bit off in some spots. I don't like the way the dress and scarf work together. But. I do like this over all, and it absolutely meets the challenge.

            Your Local Gay (Daphne)
            Score: 5
Comments: It is clunky. There are quite a few colors that are too red or yellow and not enough orange, there's also blue. There's just..there's just so much going on. Daphne is lost. And looks hot. I don't get the succulove, paired with the stars, and the crown...it's just too much happening really. Description is also bad. But. It isn't the ugliest thing ever, and is better than Savior's

            DAVlD DUCHOVNY (Keran)
            Score: 7
Comments: Best description so far. These colors look absolutely amazing on Keran. There are very few colors that don't belong, lovely. But it's hella plain, the horn on the left side has weirdness happening around it. I don't..don't see the inspiration as much as I'd like to. The description was great, but there just wasn't enough actual content in the design.

            PixelPlays (Ebony)
            Score: 4
Comments: There's blue in the flower headband and the cape is teal lined in gold. The swirls around the bottom are teal. The forehead jewels are gold and teal. The toxic green makes no sense, it doesn't belong. I like the thought of the description, but I hate seeing what could have been. Honestly either of the previous things she came up with would have scored better than this I think, even if they also had unallowed colors, I think it was more cohesive than this. Hell, even this without the background would have been better.

            Princess of the Raindrops (Mia)
            Score: 5.5
Comments: Plain, so so plain. And the description isn't great. This is something I would expect from someone entirely new to the competition, not someone who's been around. I also don't think this color is great on Mia. But it's cute enough, and it matches the challenge.

            rnadotsuki (Iona)
            Score: 6
Comments: It meets the challenge. The colors definitely match the challenge. This is cute. Love the legs/shoe choice, like the over all outfit. But it absolutely feels like someone's first outfit, not something from someone who's been on Gaia for awhile, much less in a fashion competition. I don't like the hands, are those gloves? But the biggest sin is that these colors just do not look good on Iona. Basically any shade of purple, or a rich green, would have worked. This is too pale and not great.

            Score: 8
Comments: Suicide made it in on time, and I was relieved! I also absolutely love this look, even if the legs to disappear a bit more than I would have liked, I'm inclined to forgive it this time because the whole thing is so spot on. Hate the bow though. And I think the green in melty borders dang close on blue. But. I still think it's so much better than some of the others, and the colors are less offensive, that I'm overlooking it.

Challenge 1: Unsloppy Seconds

RENstrawberry (Madison)
Score: 7
Comments: This is wildly creative, which I love and the darker shades look
great on Madison. However, the green is mismatched everywhere and that
thing on her forehead needs to go. I'm also taking issue with the simplicity -
there's nothing on the bottom half of the outfit except the 'Cheerfully Knock
On My'.

Empress Ekko (Copper)
Score: 8
Comments: Glad she decided to use the hair in her colour scheme. The result
is impressive and pleasing to the eye. The teal dot in the background is kinda
distracting.

Tink_Bel (Zahara)
Score: 9
Comments: I missed Tink's submissions. We share similar tastes, so her
designs always please me. Her research into Zahara's dark skin and hair paid
off because these shades are beautiful on the model. I do wish she'd broken
up the green with purple or orange flowers or something.

METTAT0N (Trinity)
Score: 6.5
Comments: Oh, this is cute! I love the addition of the glasses and how they fit
into the ensemble. It's clear that Metta tried hard, but I think there might just
be a little too much white. It's featured in the shoes, handheld, sleeves, tail
and ears. But more than anything, what the hell kind of description is that?

I Have Given Up (Xoco)
Score: 8
Comments: Going with a solid colour was ballsy, but boy does that shade look
good on Xoco. I'm also fairly impressed with the description as it shows
insight. True, the look is simple, but for a first entry, this is good.

khionna (Veronica)
Score: 8.5
Comments: I'm only drooling a little bit ... I bloody love the bright greens in
contrast to the darker indigo. Green and purple are my favourite colours, after
all! I really only have one negative for this image and that's that I wish she had
used glasses/shades or goggles to bring Veronica's face to the party, which
currently looks like a bland void in the image.

botticellus venus (Dita)
Score: 7.5
Comments: I love the details she gave in the description. I'm also pleased that
Venus used purple/orange and NOT green. She has expressed a love of
nature and dirt and this steps out of her comfort zone. The dress does take up
a lot of creative room though.

Destined Savior (Brooke)
Score: 6
Comments: It's cute, but very simple. The score for SM was hurt greatly by the
amount of blue and black in the design, although the indigo/orange shades
suit Brooke well. Lastly, the description (spelling, grammar & words aside) only
spoke of the look it portrayed and nothing about the designer's thoughts.

Kiwi Cannoli (Kate)
Score: 9
Comments: L.O.V.E.L.Y.! Kiwi is obviously a design newbie, but she went with
her gut and used green, which is the perfect choice for any redhead!! She
shows promise. She got high marks in creativity, using a couple of items even
I am less familiar with. The dress covers a lot of creative room though.

Your Local Gay (Daphne)
Score: 7
Comments: Missing model name - annoying if we have to look it up!! The
background decor is perfect for this challenge, but I do take a little issue with
the colour scheme, where the orange borders yellow/gold. I would have liked
to see a little more orange in there. Also, Daphne looks about 450lbs ...

DAVlD DUCHOVNY (Keran)
Score: 8
Comments: Missing model name - annoying if we have to look it up!! The
lavender and darker greens look great on Keran, even if the design comes
across as a little bit simple. I would have liked to see a mod for the hands
though. Even the mandhandlers would have sufficed just so we wouldn't have
to look at those chunky fingers. Description was an easy 10 for David here -
the history and backstory of the designer was beautiful.

Pixelplays (Ebony)
Score: 8
Comments: The purple was used nicely in this and the more subtle uses of
green were on point. I also really love the use of the leg mod - thicker thighs
for this dark beauty was a great choice. I wish the veil and hairband pieces
would have used more green and less blue.

Princess of the Raindrops (Mia)
Score: 5.5
Comments: The description saved Princess from having a truly abysmal
score, I'm sad to say. Not only is the design simple, but it lacks fashion sense.
Her time in PC 1 was short-lived, but this design says that she didn't even
watch the previous cycle.

rnadotsuki (Iona)
Score: 6
Comments: 'I knew from the get-go that I want to focus mostly on green,
because out of the three available colors I like this one best' - A very common
error made by new designers. Suki may like green, but Iona would have
looked best in lavender. The design is also fairly simple and isn't as balanced
as I would like, but it's cute.

x_suicide_is_inevitable_x (Noelle)
Score: 8
Comments: This is very cute and very well balanced. It was a little risky to go
with a pastel/lighter tone to the design, but it works. I am really loving the
background in this image as a ballerina does need a proper stage. What I
would have liked to see are some decals on the arms, like those gypsy arms
with the hanging beads or something.

Star-Crossed Memory

My notes on whether any other color than purple, green or orange was used is only because I was curious if anyone could pull off a look without the tiniest bit of other color (super hard challenge) as opposed to being a stickler for the challenge.

Scores acquired via a rubric I came up with and then ranking from there based on overall how well I think the design worked.

Khionna, Tink and Kiwi got my high scores (shocker, right?) and my weak links were Destined Savior and PixelPlays (I liked the creativity of both, but the problems were numerous as everyone has pointed out).

1. I Have Given Up (Xoco)
Thoughts: Poppy is a lovely hue on Xoco. Props for trying the monochrome looks, but I’m not sold on how it all tied together. I thinking having the flames and the floral background a different color would have made the image (and thus her outfit) pop more. Arms in her skin color also would have helped with breaking up the straight solid chunks of poppy color too. But the choice of the ribbons and how they play into the flames while her leg is showing and the bottom of her dress is jagged looking was great. While the look is a bit plain (it technically has very few pieces that show us an outfit that was designed), it is a great start.
Note: some gold trim on the sleeves at the wrists and between her bust
Score: 5

2. Empress Ekko (Copper)
Thoughts: Lavender is perfect on Copper’s skin tone and hair. The layering of the dress and ruffled train worked well for me. I love the addition of the necklace, but the exact hue on the hair, necklace and shoes feels a little too matchy-matchy to me (but I don’t like things to match perfectly which I know other judges feel differently than I do). The prop was nice, but her arms and legs feel a little bare to me, so maybe some jewelry on the arms would have helped? I like the background choice a ton, but once I read Slytherin’s description of the green jewel being an eye sore, I can’t help but notice it more (I like it, but it does compete for attention for my eye against the model an her outfit which is not something you want your background to do. Learn from all the critiques I got lol). I don’t know what could have covered it though to be able to keep the lovely background.
Note: I think it is all purple and orange?!
Score: 8

3. DAVlD DUCHOVNY (Keran)
Thoughts: Pine is stunning on * and I’m surprised by how well I like pine with lavender. I like the choker necklace and the vibe it gives alongside the garter belt buckles peeking out from her shorts, but I think it is silver? I like the sheer belly-tied shirt over the crop top and shorts. The shoe choice was plain, and while I agree with the horns description wise, aesthetically the look off when I look at the image (both before and after reading the description). Description was great, clearly had passion, connection and explained color choices/some item choices. The model’s name is missing from the details though (which I think is supposed to be included?)
Note: silver choker and white on the garter
Score: 7.5

4. x_suicide_is_inevitable_x (Noelle)
Thoughts: I was wondering if someone would use the melty color palette! It is a good one and I like it on Noelle. It plays up her eyes and fair skin. Outfit is simple but cute – I like the high waisted skirt and cleavage bearing top with cap sleeves. The legs blend into the background too much for me, so I would have either chose a different background or leg choice. I am glad there is a necklace as her head looks rather plain (and I know well how hard it is to add things on top of a haircut like this!). I think some earrings would have helped perhaps? I love the idea of Noelle as lavender – “strong and well-liked, but possessing a calm, relaxed side.” Brilliant.
Note: necklace has some black?
Score: 6

5. rnadotsuki (Iona)
Thoughts: Love the leg choice with the little strappy heels. I like the use of tea green and pumpkin orange on Iona but the jacket feels just thrown on and not deliberate like it absolutely belongs with the outfit. And the flap of the jacket that blocks her face feels off on her face to me? The headbow was a good touch as it breaks up the pale locks and ties in the tea color so her body feels balanced. Solid description as it addresses the challenge and what she was going for as well as why calabash was used (I had no idea that color scheme was called that. Learned something new!).
Note: I’m not seeing any other colors used but green and orange….
Score: 6

6. khionna (Veronica)
Thoughts: These colors look fab on Veronica and make this image really pop in a good way. I absolutely adore the background/scene but I’m torn on how I like/dislike how the outfit blends into the background. I think the clothes themselves cut wise are great – the long mismatched leggings, the puff-sleeved collared blouse, high-waisted shorts, the bowler hat and fingerless gloves. It’s both cheeky and girly and slightly punk at the same time. Definitely love the pieces of the outfit an how they look together.
Note: black dots on gloves/collar and a black stripe don the shorts
Score: 9

7. Your Local Gay (Daphne)
Thoughts: In the first split second I was like whoa – there is a lot going on here. Not overly cluttered, but a lot for me to need to separate out as to what pieces are being used and why. It both blends and doesn’t blend, but I can’t pinpoint why I feel that way. The wings aren’t needed. The scarf along with the shawl look great together. The colors are bold and beautiful, but * looks almost washed out to me in them. The boot balances the ruffles on the opposite side color wise, but feels almost out of place with how well it blends into the outfit and that I can see a boot (with the ruffles in the scarf and down the one leg, the outfit looks heavy with fabric but wait no, there is this one boot free. I think the leg free could have worked with a very minimalist shoe perhaps and more skin/leg? Or maybe more ruffles down the whole legs would look more cohesive?). I’m also not a big fan of the use of flowers and stars – both can totally work together, but the daisies feel wrong with the oracle vibe (maybe something more ornate flower wise and less pastoral would have worked better) and the stars and succulents are too much on my eye.
Note: dark brown in the floral crown
Score: 6

8. Pixelplays (Ebony)
Thoughts: I adore Ebony. She and Madison are the two I probably would have auditioned with this cycle. I really like the concept behind this one, but find the execution lacking. The dress is cute and the fan and legs are perfect. The teal veil, the blue and grape purple headpiece, and the green sparkly ribbons at her feet don’t work for me though. There are three different purples in the image that compete instead of flow together (Saturn on her skirt, grape on the roses in her hair and a different hue in the background). The blue flowers shouldn’t have been included per the challenge objective, but they are a good color on Ebony. But the blue, the teal and the green along with three purples? Nope. Plus I don’t think the veil fits with the outfit (another veil choice may have worked) and the green sparkly ribbons at her feet just confuse me. Why add this color green? Why sparkly? Why ribbons at her feet only?
Note: gold, blue
Score: 4

9. Princess of the Raindrops (Mia)
Thoughts: Cute! But not terribly creative. The outfit is just a simple dress, a hat and then some matching shows. Tea green and shamrock are good colors on Mia and she does look good. But the outfit isn’t memorable or unique and it doesn’t show me much designing forte, more like I found this cute piece and put it on my model. Description was solid I like that Princess mentioned ‘washed out’ since that was a complaint I had last night with a different entry (and I agree that these colors don’t wash Mia out).
Note: white trim on the hat
Score: 5.5

10. Tink_Bel (Zahara)
Thoughts: I always adore her nature design’s <3 The leafy boa, the twigs, the tall grass and falling leaves all play into each other beautifully. The only thing I can’t just change my mind on (though I keep coming back to the image and thinking my thoughts must have changed by now) is that I don’t think all the greens work together – there is just a shade too many I think. But I have no complaints with the choices made as to Zahara’s top or bottom. I think it is the headpiece that feels not quite right to me. I absolutely love how the outfit was broken up by skin, and with the movement of Zahara’s body and how we get these stripes of skin – her ear and face, her chest and arm, her belly and then the legs.
Note: I think there is only some brown on the head branch
Score: 9

11. METTAT0N (Trinity)
Thoughts: Super cute. The color choice of sage and pumpkin was a good one for Trinity. Headpiece is a bit too busy and definitely has a bunch of white in it. I’m not sure if I am seeing things or if Trinity is wearing ripped white tights? Or is it a necklace that is making it look like she has ripped white tights on? Whatever it is, it is distracting to me. I like the background choice on how it adds to the cohesion of the design without being necessary. I don’t think the shooting star part was needed though. Description was bland – didn’t really tell me about how the outfit came together, or how the colors were decided on or show any excitement for what they designed.
Note: lots of white pieces
Score: 6

12. Destined Savior (Brooke)
Thoughts: I don’t think Destined Savior understood the challenge as I look at the black gloves and side skirt as well as the light blue cloak and cream colored flowers/tea cup/button/eye. The blue does tie in the little decals on the side of the dress and plays up Brooke’s eyes, but those extra colors shouldn’t be there. I also don’t think she read the * where it talks about what should go into the description (in terms of highlighting some of the design process/how the ensemble came together/choice made). All in all I have to give props for tying all the colors used together well, but the outfit is somewhat lackluster to me and majorly fails at the challenge’s objective.
Note: lots of use of black, light blue, and cream
Score: 4

13. RENstrawberry (Madison)
Thoughts: This outfit and image is evocative and I love the daring hat choice (which I appreciated the rain with even before I read the description). The hat an outfit didn’t say witch to me though like the description told we she was. The green and purple look great together and I love the top half of the outfit in particular. The bottom half does feel like it needs a belt or sash or something for balance. I’m not a fan of the background leaves/ground. The ombre orange is part of the atmosphere and I wouldn’t want to lose it as it does add an eerie, otherworldly feel, but the leaves and orange apples were too much. I’m also not sure what is going on, on her right side of the hat behind the veil? Is it a hair extension? I’m not sure what that darkness is but it is distracting. I wish the head mark was smaller, but it isn’t like we can resize Gaia’s items and I have no idea if there is another head mark/piece in that hue on Gaia either.
Note: looks like white bracelets on her wrists? probably part of sleeve design.
Score: 7

14. Kiwi Cannoli (Kate)
Thoughts: First thoughts were shamrock is fab on Kate, she looks so cute and innocent, and yet this whole look super appeals to me (I’m normally not much into the cutesy looks, hence why I surprised myself by how much I dig this). The big bow looks great in her ponytail, and the scarf around the neck looks good on the dress. The winged part of the scarf actually looks smooth and chic against the dress (as opposed to bulky which something like it could easily look). I would have ditched the rainboots though as that is where the outfit starts to feel bulky to me. A different shoe choice would have been able to give some pizazz to the outfit which is a little on the plain side. The background choice and description were spot on to me as well.
Note: poppy bunny decal and white ruffles
Score: 8.5

15. botticellus venus (Dita)
Thoughts: The colors are rich and they look great on Dita. I’m not a fan of the headpiece though because of the Saturn purple color – I don’t think it plays well with the Sunset purples. The description was solid, no complaints with it besides that it doesn’t show me much passion for the design. The fantastical nature of the gown is enhanced by the tarot cards and background, but for me the couch part blends too well with the skirt – I’d like the skirt to stand out more (but I do like the canopy and moon). I like the arm choice on her as the focus of the design is her fair skin and thus her face and torso before my eye is swept downward by her sash. The eyesore for me is what looks to be her leg peaking out oddly from the gown?
Note: red jewel in the necklace
Score: 5.5

Challenge 1: Unsloppy Seconds
(Dear Goddess, I stole your format xd )

RENstrawberry (Madison)
Score: 8.5
Comments: I think this avatar is very pretty and I love that REN was able to use a big hat without making Madison look top-heavy. The greens look okay to me and I like how the butterflies stand out, but I also could do without the forehead accessory. Other than that, I sort of just wish she popped more. Madison has dark hair and dark eyes with dark skin and the greens and purples chosen just sort of leave me begging for contrast.

The description is quite good as well, I'm glad they were going for a witch because that's the impression I got. Though I laughed at "burn her at the steak". Yum. XD I'm not going to deduct points for it.

Empress Ekko (Copper)
Score: 6.5
Comments: At first glance I was pleased, but after examination I'm somewhat underwhelmed. Once the lovely background is removed there isn't much to the look. I wish she had something more going on with her head, or had a more sensual leg mod to go with the arms and gown as presently the chunk-of-orange heels look younger than the rest of the outfit. I do sympathize with color restrictions, but there are more than two pairs of orange shoes on Gaia. Also, this look says cocktail party to me far more than "elegant ball." All that said, it's still nice and the color choices were good. I might be a bit too harsh on a first round. sweatdrop I'm most impressed with how Copper's hair doesn't look huge or out of place.

Tink_Bel (Zahara)
Score: 9
Comments: Tink never fails to impress me with her skills and this time is no different. Looking at all the avatars grouped together, this one stands out to me the most (so far). I'm glad to see she looked up color guides to help herself. As far as critique though, I do have a few points. I wish there was more sage. It's all grouped around her shoulders and not really balanced. Perhaps a sage headpiece would have been good because the one she has currently is a brighter green than the others and stands out in a poor fashion. Also, the white threads on the bayou bridegroom are very distracting, but I suppose she couldn't really help that. Despite that, I really love this entry.

METTAT0N (Trinity)
Score: 5
Comments: So I feel like I'd enjoy this avatar more without the background. All that limey tea color grouped together is an eyesore (or maybe that's just me?). The ears are shamrock and don't match. In any case, the avatar overall is still balanced and adorable, if a bit basic. I do wish the orange was spread through the outfit and not just tossed on the body in blobs, but balance is balance. That description tho...someone call Elphie.

I Have Given Up (Xoco)
Score: 7.5
Comments: Elphie is going to have her work cut out for her teaching these folks to explain their process. I actually don't really have any complaints about the outfit. It's simple, but it's good with a strong silhouette. The trouble for me is the orange. It just really overwhelms my eyeballs and draws attention to the gold accents that really should not be there.

khionna (Veronica)
Score: 7
Comments: I wish they'd described their process more but at least the description has some meat. I agree with Goddess about the face. It looks like a big void and the tiny legs coupled with it only make it look more inflated. Something on the face, or less on the legs (so we could see some skin) would solve this. I do like a good venom avatar though.

Botticellis Venus (Dita)
Score: 7
Comments: This is another entry that got less appealing the longer I looked at it. First glance, I LOVE these colors on Dita, so pretty. I'm on the fence on if I count some of those golds as orange, but we've been over my occasional tint matching issues, so I'll let it go. My big issue with this piece is that without the description I didn't notice she was holding a card because coupled with her face, that arm mod looks like she's eating. On the subject of eating, I'm not sure if its the sheen on the arms, the wideness of the dress, or both (or something else?) but Dita looks heavy in this image. While I don't take issue with a model looking more plus sized, if that isn't the intention I think we have an issue.

As a sort of global complaint that Venus just happens to fall under, do the designers need to be told this isn't a story-telling competition? While I think the little tales are cute, few of them lend to the design and instead just take up half the descriptions.

Destined Savior (Brooke)
Score: 3
Comments: I can barely even concentrate on the design because my head keeps screaming BLUE. This outfit is almost entirely colors that aren't supposed to be here and I don't find rule-breaking cute. The description is virtually nonexistent. The only reason I gave them any points at all is because the design is technically alright.

Kiwi Cannoli (Kate)
Score: 8
Comments: I feel like darker greens would have been more fetching on Kate, but the ones used are still rather nice. I don't think the dress and scarf are compatible because the scarf looks heavily pixelated in contrast and stands out too much for my liking. Despite that, I do think this is a cute design and I like that the designer was going for a childlike look because that comes across.

Your Local Gay (Daphne)
Score: 8
Comments: I guess this became the unofficial witch theme at some point, so I knocked some points for creativity. Would like to hear more about item selection, but the avatar itself is good. It's pretty and balanced, looks good on the model, and has a lot of pieces without looking cluttered.

DAVlD DUCHOVNY (Keran)

Score: 7
Comments: I'm glad a color theme was so inspiring for the designer, but I'm really not seeing the inspiration reflected in the design. She mentions purple flowers but there aren't any. If she wanted to make a protest avatar or one that was deeply symbolic, I wish she would have pushed it and gone bigger. This avatar just feels like a small collection of random matching items and doesn't really speak on its own. On the plus side, the colors look good on Keran and the designer clearly put thought into her description.

Pixelplays (Ebony)
Score:
8
Comments: Her description is so long she linked off-page to it and while normally I think that would cause a good slice to points, I was just happy to see someone tracked their thoughts. I think in the future if she can condense and put the words on her actual entry she'll be in the good. I REALLY like this entry and wanted to give it a 9, but that background looks really out of place and to top it off the designer KNEW it looked out of place and submitted it anyway. I would have overlooked the blue in the fish for the beauty of the first background they chose (though I wouldn't have known that if they hadn't shared it) so I had to cut the score.

Princess of the Raindrops (Mia)
Score: 5.5
Comments: I'm not sure Princess and I agree about what colors look good on Mia, but the green isn't horrible either. More than anything this outfit just feels anemic. There just isn't that much going on. The description also seems to meander, but it's more on track than several others.

rnadotsuki (Iona)
Score: 5
Comments: This is the kind of outfit I'd expect to see on someone new to Gaia, not on a model in a contest. Also, Goddess beat me to saying it, but liking green doesn't make it look good on Iona. If they were going to use green they should have gone with emerald or another dark shade that looks good on pale models, but some sort of purple would have been more ideal.

x_suicide_is_inevitable_x (Noelle)
Score: 7.5 (this is assuming Suicide even gets a score, if not, just zero it out.)
Comments: He was late right? So I'm not sure if his score counts, but I'll review it anyway. The outfit is another simple one, but this one really uses the background to its advantage. It gives Noelle a full artistic look without going off theme or being distracting. It does somewhat devour the legs though which could have been solved by a different legmod, Gaia has several for ballet. I think the colors look nice, but I loathe that hair ribbon. It looks so out of place on that hair! I think a circlet or hair clips would have looked better.

(Dear Goddess, I stole your format xd )

Perfectly fine!! Haha!

It's a damn good format, I think. It's worked for me through countless cycles.

Oh, and since everyone's reserved their posts now, discussion can start
anytime. We don't have to wait until everyone's submitted to start a discussion!

And I wanna start out by saying WHOA!
No offense to anyone from PC 1, but these newbies are kicking some serious
a** so far.

Is it okay if I add in my opinions on the contestants? IK I'm not one of the judges, but let's just say I'm giving my opinions as an audience.

Hello, lovely! I think it would probably be best if this thread was just for judges? If only because it could get kind of cluttered if there's too many other voices and discussions.

But I think it could be good for you and the mentors to give feedback when interested. It's good practice for anyone who has interest in judging, and it also gives the mentors more information to kind of reference when they're helping others. If you would like, another thread can be posted for the three of you to give feedback when you're interested. c:

That description tho...someone call Elphie.

LOL!! I really do think we need to sick Elphie on these guys. A notice will be
going out tomorrow on Description though. It's just a re-post of one I wrote for
PC 1, but it's better than nothing.

We will also send out the 'A Look Into Judging' advice series that was posted
last cycle.

I'm very impressed with Tink and Kiwi's submission so far. Princess has really
disappointed me. Her audition wasn't exactly outstanding, but it was a lot
better than this.

She was around for 3 rounds last cycle. She opted out of one, didn't submit for
another, but this was the feedback from the first challenge:

Quote:
Good: Cute and well-balanced
Bad: The blues are a bit mismatched (though 1 liked that) and seems
a bit safe ... give us a surprise!

I think that's a good idea, I found it helpful personally. I know my descriptions tended to run long, but most of these are far too short. XD

Tink and REN have my favorite entries so far, though I must say on the average as a whole these designers are doing some good work. I'm glad I'm not the only one not in love with Princess's design though. It almost feels like an afterthought, like, does she even want to compete?

And I wish Savior had used a more greenish blue or less black or SOMETHING to make me feel like they even read the challenge description. sweatdrop

Also I accidentally clicked edit instead of quote first and scared the crud out of myself. gonk I didn't know I could edit other people's post what the heck?

Hahahaha!! I've done that several times. The panic of screwing with another's
post exists!!

On the whole, I feel these submissions are better than most for PC 1's first
challenge, but a handful still have a long way to go. I feel like those few who
aren't at an acceptable level should perhaps gets warnings to seek out our
Mentors.

Wait, we can edit other people's posts?! I've been on this site for over a decade and didn't know that lol stare

I would definitely gently suggest to the weak links to go and work with the mentors on next round. Now that we have this great resource, I can't wait to see designers get better after working with our two lovely mentors.
