Personality: Selene is a very shy, soft spoken girl. She is an introvert, with rather poor social skills and not very much self-confidence, which leads to her being easily intimidated by even friendly people. She prefers not to speak much around strangers, due to a stutter she has had all of her life. She is a gentle and kindhearted person by nature, but when it comes to other people, her shyness often prevents her from trying to help when she wants to.
She is a very intelligent and studious young woman. Her grades are among the best in most of her classes as a result.. But if that ever gets pointed out, she tends to get embarrassed and downplay her abilities. She makes for a very loyal and caring friend, that tries her best to keep her friends' spirits up through difficult times. She isn't a very brave person at the best of times and is a downright coward in the face of danger.. But if she can do something, she will try to. If she isn't too scared.
After going to Videl for two years, especially after the insanity of the last year, she has become rather paranoid and anxious. She engages in behaviors she did not have before coming to the school, such as checking every part of her dorm before resting, sleeping with a light on, and similar things. She tends to get clingy with Valeria when there are dangerous things happening. She has come to rather hate how weak she is, knowing that she is quite useless when it comes to such things.

Backstory: Selene never knew her birth parents. Her earliest memories are of the old orphanage she once lived at. Nothing that really stands out in her mind. She does vaguely remember being told that her parents probably couldn't take care of her.. Once when she had asked about them. That was how it often went.. For various reasons, parents were unable to take care of a child. It happened a lot. This wasn't a bad place. The adults that worked there really seemed to care about most of the children.. That being said, she does remember that there were some less than great people. She vaguely recalls there being an older child who tended to pick on younger ones.. And hurt anyone that tried to tell an adult.
When she was seven, the orphanage caught fire and burned down. Several employees and children were killed in the fire. She was one of the lucky ones that got out.. And without being as hurt as some of the others. All the survivors had to go to a hospital.. Then they were shipped off to another orphanage, in a different city. A bigger one, with more children. She was always an awkward, shy child. This made her a prime target for bullying.. Adults didn't seem to really care, which just made it worse. Eventually, she did adjust.. As she had learned to read, she became rather fond of books.. Fiction offered an escape from reality.
She spent four years living there. She honestly feels like she was lucky to have been chosen by one of the couples that sometimes came. She expected to live at the orphanage until she was eighteen. It seemed a lot like chance, but a few months before her twelfth birthday, the people that would become her adoptive parents came there. They were a nice couple. Selene met them in the hallways, when she was going back to the room she slept in. They stopped her and talked for a few minutes. When they eventually left, it was without one of the children. They came back several times over the course of several weeks, speaking with both her and other children before they came to a decision.
One day, when they left, they took her with them. She was the lucky one. But.. For someone who knew no other life, it was a very big change. She found that some of the habits she had developed were not as.. Appropriate for other places. It took a while to adjust. They were patient enough to work through it, helping her adjust to living with them. She wasn't too difficult, and they had taken the time to learn what to expect. Getting used to her new life was difficult.. But it was also wonderful to her. That wasn't to say that she didn't get homesick though.. She had friends who she missed very much.
The couple adopted her when she was twelve (and boy, did they ever have a weird last name) which made her very happy as it meant they would not end up sending her back. As time passed in their care, she began to get an interest in learning about real world things, though her love of fiction remained. Actually wanting to do well now, her grades in school went from just passing to excelling. She became less physically active as she put more time into learning, and getting to know her new family. When she was fourteen, she was invited to Videl Academy. After taking some time to learn about it, both she and her parents agreed that it was a good opportunity. Little did they know how much going there would change her life.
The school was much bigger than she had expected it to be and she.. Got very lost on her first day. Sure, she was just trying to learn her way around, but it was so big it was hard to know where exactly she was. Finding the dorms was easy, at least.. It was there she met her roommate, a Russian student named Valeria who would become her best friend. At first, she didn't really like her all that much. The other girl was a lot more energetic than she was, but they got along well enough. That year, she had learned that the supernatural which seemed so implausible was very much real. Having a teacher who regularly tried and failed to commit suicide (despite being mortally wounded) in front of students made it very hard to deny. It was.. Quite disturbing, to say the least. She did get used to it though.
Over summer and during holidays when there was a long enough break to make the trip, she returned home to be with her adoptive family.. And excitedly tell them about her school, teachers, and Valeria.. Although she failed to mention the supernatural goings on. She didn't think that they would believe that, as it seemed so unbelievable to her even though she had seen it with her own eyes.
During her second year, things took a definite turn for the worst, with monsters showing up and attacking students, mysterious deaths, and general insanity, among other things.. And somehow, the school functioning through it all. She made a few new friends, lost a few friends, gained some new phobias... And became closer friends with her roommate. She doesn't know how she would have gotten through the year without her. Still, she didn't tell her parents about all of these things that had been happening, although they noticed her.. Frazzled behavior when she returned home. Even though it wasn't a great year, and they did say she could leave that school if she wanted to, she decided to return for another year. It might be a terrifying place, but it isn't all bad. Or so she thought...
Within the first week of the year, she has been given plenty of reasons to regret her choice. First her glasses were broken thanks to a mistake with a stink bomb in her dorm... The next night, she stumbled across the mutilated body of a teacher. This was made worse by the fact that she stepped on it before she realized what was there. In the following panic, she fled to the school's chapel for the remainder of the night. The school priest told her not to go to class that day, but she was unable to sleep so she went for a walk. This proved to be a huge mistake, as she met the demon responsible for the death of that teacher. The demon did not kill her, but she did.. Hurt her. One of the school guards, Ashelia, found her afterward.
She spent the rest of that day unconscious in Ashe's room. Valeria was right there.. That night, when she woke up, the very one who had harmed her was also present, but in a harmless seeming form. With Ashe no longer there, she was too afraid to say anything so she allowed the woman to take her away. The rest of her night was... Traumatic, to say the least, but in the morning that person let her go, with a warning that she would kill Valeria if she told anyone about what had happened. She hid away inside her dorm for that day, completely missing all of her classes again.
The next day... Strangely, that demon woman approached her again, acting completely differently from before. She dragged Selene out to the convenience store, seeming entirely too naive and innocent for her age and previous actions.. It was unnerving. She learned that the woman was preparing for a date with Valeria's brother. After they parted ways again, she just went back to her room. In the time since then, she hasn't had any more run ins with that woman. Although she has been behaving oddly, she won't tell anyone who asks what is wrong...

Goal: Survive another year at Videl while keeping up with schoolwork and getting good grades! She also wants to be more active this year, which is why she signed up for P.E.
