A prize for his darling was what he'd wanted when he went into the woods to the old forge master. However he had no coin. Mostly he bartered for everything he had some how or another.

"Sorry we've no barter.. Coin or nothing welp." the forge master said."Do some tasks and We'll see what you get" With that, he motioned to a board of bounties and tasks that had posted requests.

Herbs.. he could find herbs.... He knew a lot about them after all his mother raised he and his brothers in an herb garden and he had heard there was some new herbs to be found in the woods where he'd met that gruff old hippogryph. He wondered if while looking for some of the other tasks he might be able to bring something new home to his mother when he and Kisha returned for a visit. After all holidays were soon encroaching and he wanted something special to give is family on his first return home after leaving to visit his half brother. It was on his way to the primrose lands that he first met Kisha. A fated meeting that soon developed into a new blossoming relationship.

Nudging Kisha's neck with his muzzle, he moved forward into the woods, passing by the underbrush careful in his search. He had a hope that his find would bring great enthusiasm for her garden. SHe had many herbs and he knew them all by sight and scent, what he sought now was something not really known to her little garden. Something unique and tale was that these woods just might have something up his ally.

They'd walked for a short while perhaps a few hours and still their search bore no fruit other than herbs he knew she already had. It was then that he heard a rustling in the trees. Fearing predatory soquili, he turned to see just what was stalking them. A chill ran up his spine as he saw a large snake there in the branches of a tree.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Kisha! watchou…." He tried in vain to warn his beloved mate but before the words finished, the snake had lunged and struck at him.
"Cheeky fiend.. you'll not win so easy"

Kisha was less interested in the forgemaster's wares than her beloved was, but she admitted that he had high quality equipment. She had no problems with going with Sage to look, especially when it involved nature.

There were always interesting things to find in the forest.

She followed him with a fond look, letting him take the lead. He was on a mission, looking for something out of the ordinary, and with luck, maybe they'd find it.

It just might take a while.

Most of the herbs that they were finding were common ones, useful enough, but not quite what Sage was looking for. She was looking off in a different direction when she heard his cry, turning to look just as the snake lunged out of the bushes.

She charged forward and struck at the snake with her hooves. "Are you okay?" She asked, even as the snake lunged at her. It was fast, but between the two of them, she wasn't very concerned.

He'd been bitten and as He saw his beloved step in to help fend off the beast, he couldn't help but to feel some sort of pride knowing that she'd risk her all just as he would.

"I'm fine Kisha, It's got a nasty bite." He could still feel it's fangs even though he knew it had long since let go. Something about this snake was more than met the eye. he felt odd and that wasn't any good at all.

"We've got this Kisha, we can take it down."

As he struck out the snake lunged again.

She was pleased to hear that her love wasn't badly injured. Snakebites were bad, but compared to some of the creatures out there, easy enough to treat. "I'm alright too." she added, just so he knew.

Admittedly, this snake was a bit unusual, smart and fast, and not fleeing, but she'd much rather them keep it occupied than for it to wander off and find any kittens. They were big enough to handle it.

"I have no doubts about that," she answered.

The snake lunged once more attempting to coil around his leg as he struck at it, pawing to smash it's head and avoid another bite. Still, he found himself bitten. She was fine, not badly injured, that was a weight off his mind. There was no doubt about it. This snake had to go down. Foals would be easy prey for something this smart and dangerous. Rearing, he attempted to stomp down with his paws.

Even with the two of them, the snake wasn't trapped, quickly darting between the two of them as it attacked. The attacks that hit slowed them down, and when she went to strike at it again, she almost missed.

Her hooves barely hit it's side, slightly less effective than Kisha wanted. She snarled in frustration, irritated with herself. She should have been able to hit that.

Still, she couldn't stop now, not until this beast was defeated.

Again the snake hissed and coiled, lunging out again and striking at them. Sage lashed out again, turning his side for a rear kick, hoping for something more powerful this time.

That was a great idea. She watched him strike out with his strong back hooves, and then leapt over the snake, intending to mimic him on the other side. She kicked out, knowing that her aim was true.

There was little chance the snake would be able to stand up to this sort of attack, and with any luck, this would be enough to deal with this snake once and for all.

the snake was smashed brutally from both attacks. As Sage's hooves struck out, Kisha's met his with the snake caught between. She scaled serpent's body crumpled and writhed before finally dropping broken and still.

Carefully Sage pawed the scaly corpse before sniffing it and giving a Snort. "A dead snake can still bite.. We should burry this thing." Still he felt a little worse for ware. they'd likely need to see a healer before continuing on with anything else from that board.

"We could," she answered. "Or we could the harvest the skull and fangs first. The forgemaster might not be interested in it, but there are enough visitors that someone might be willing to trade for it." Or they might not, but Kisha was well away that there were quite a few horses around that liked bones and skulls.

"Might be worth a try?"

If he didn't think that it'd be worth the effort, that was fine, and in anycase, they wouldn't want to leave the remains out where it could be stumbled upon. Even now that it couldn't attack, it was still an impressive beast.

What else was lurking in these forests?

He pondered this over a little before finally nodding. "Sure, Just be careful.. those fangs still carry a nasty bite that I dare say would be worse now that it can't control how much it sets free." They'd need to find something to sever the snake's head... and carry it in. Looking around, he found something to carry it in. A discarded basket no doubt from one of the tribes people who'd passed by or something. It wasn't like the ones they used to shelter foals in but still it's do the trick.

"found a basket.. we could take the head in this.. find something to loose it from the rest of the body would you dear?"
PostPosted: Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:54 pm
"Of course, dear." The snake might be dead, but she was well aware that the fangs still held venom. She thought for a moment about what to use to cut the head off, and then remember that they had passed a group of sharpish rocks.

Those would work, and she wandered off to check. There were several that were sharp enough for this, and she picked up the sharpest before heading back.

Sage had found a basket for them to put it in, which would make carrying it much easier. Snakes didn't exactly have handholds.

"I think this'll do it," she answered, moving to stand behind the snake head. She slashed at it's neck until the head was free, being careful to keep an eye on where the fangs were. She picked it up, and then placed it in the basket that Sage had found.

"There we go." She nudged him gently. "We should probably head back before the scavengers show up for the carcass."

Giving a nod, he lead took the basket in tow and lead the way back to the old stallion who'd sent them on the fool's errand t begin with. Sure their original task hadn't been accomplished, but this one had to be worth something, right? They soon reached the forge and gruff stallion. "Hoy, forge keeper, We've returned with something I believe you'll be wanting to see.

The stallion emerged from within the forge a look of contempt on his gruff maw. "Aye? And wot would the be lad?"

Sage dropped the basket and opened it so the serpent's head was revealed. "this thing will not be stalking your woods any longer."

"That be the serpent I've been posting to be taken care of? Aye lad.. It's a great deed you and the lass have done. Most welcome tidings for sure. You've my gratitude and some coin. Should you deem any other tasks worth your while I'll be happy to compensate you for your work."
