This is a private role-play between Baneberry Boneblossom (Calixita), Cosima (Calixita), Esperance Brightblade (Calixita), Isra (Calixita), Parthenos (Calixita), Wineberry Cream Puff (Calixita), and the familiars Void, Cygnus, and Rafael.
Quote: Mushroom SoupThe Forgemaster's favourite food is mushroom soup. However, he doesn't often have time to go out and collect the mushrooms to make it. Find him enough mushrooms to make the stew and he'll not only share a meal with you but he'll grant you a shiny gold piece (or two). Goal: Collect 20 mushrooms.
Instructions: Roll 1d6 and match your rolls to the outcomes below!
This mushroom is a little slimy and you're not entirely sure if that's a good thing or not. The last thing you want to do is give the Forgemaster food poisoning so you test it yourself. That's the only thing you remember and you wake up sometime later in a haze. -3 mushrooms
In the remnants of a decaying log, you find the mother load. The largest mushrooms you've ever seen! And even more lucky, you remember these mushrooms and know they're good to eat! (+5 mushrooms)
You seem to have stumbled into a large thicket of brambles. It takes you some time to pull all the thorns out of your sides and it seems as though they tore a hole in your sack and you lost some mushrooms. (-2 mushrooms)
Some of the woodland creatures got curious at the soquili traipsing through their home. You seem to be making an awful lot of noise and they want you gone asap! They brought you some mushrooms to help speed the process along. (+3 mushrooms)
Nothing out of the ordinary with this find, you just happened to sniff them out. (+1 mushroom)
Seems like another group of woodland creatures doesn't like you stealing their mushrooms. They perform an elaborate trick of death defying skill while another pilfers your sack! (-1 mushroom)

Cosima was silent as she followed the group of soquili -- and a few familiars, too. She wasn't used to being around others. She was used to being... alone. Void was usually her only company. And that was -- okay. She was a quiet wolf, but they were comfortable silences between them, just enjoying each other's presence. So all these new soquili and familiars around her made her nervous, if not a little uncomfortable. She didn't know what to say or do -- and she was so lost in her head that she didn't notice the brambles she was stepping into. She stumbled in with a cry, limbs getting caught in the vines, and she winced as she tried to struggle away from the pain.
"Ah -- Cosima!" Void raced after her to help, biting on the vines and pulling at them, trying to get them off Cosima's legs. She wasn't much help, having to let go every now and then when she felt the thorns p***k the roof of her mouth and her tongue, whimpering from the pain. She went right back in every time, though, trying to save her bonded. |

After defeating an angry, bloodthirsty little rabbit, Esperence decided to take on a task a little less dangerous. It hadn't been that difficult, but she preferred to take it easy and do something simple this time around. She followed along with the group that had formed while speaking with the Forgemaster, smiling as they chatted away amongst themselves. Well -- most of them. She couldn't help but notice the many-winged mare keeping a small distance between herself and the others, staying silent. Maybe she was just shy? Just as she made her way over to the mare to chat with her, she tripped and fell into some brambles, her wings flapping wildly as she tried to escape.
Oh, no! Esperance ran over to help the wolf familiar try and free her. Together, they were able to pull Cosima from the bush, but not without Esperance losing her balance once or twice and falling in herself. By the end of it, she was laughing at the whole situation while Cosima just looked bashful. "Are you okay?" she asked with a smile, glad that the other mare nodded.
"Well, we're off to a poor start, aren't we? Come on, let's stick together. Hopefully none of us will fall into anymore brambles!" |

Parthenos was adding a nice mushroom to his bag when he heard something heavy hit the ground. His head jerked up and his ears swiveled around towards the noise, and he noticed one of his companions had passed out. With shock, he quickly ran over to Baneberry and nudged his shoulder. "Hey, hey -- are you okay?" he asked, trying to rouse him back up. He glanced around to try and find the cause of it when his eyes landed on the slimy mushrooms. He recognized those -- dizziness, sometimes rendered you temporarily unconscious, but overall not fatal. Baneberry must have eaten one. Parthenos sighed in relief and looked back at the flutter, who was just starting to stir back awake with a groan. He smiled, nudging him gently again to make sure he didn't just go back to sleep. "You'll be okay. Just don't eat those mushrooms again," he laughed.
Cygnus flew after Parthenos, hooting softly as he landed beside the fallen soquili. Why had he eaten the mushrooms if he didn't know what they were? He clicked his tongue. Sometimes, he didn't understand soquili. His bonded was flighty, but at least Cygnus could be sure that Parthenos wouldn't go around eating strange mushrooms without a care in the world. |

Wineberry wasn't like her mate -- she wasn't a fighter, so she decided to go with a safer task like collecting mushrooms. Going out with a group made it all the better! Unfortunately, she didn't know too much about mushrooms, but she was hoping to learn. She knew some were poisonous, and knew at least how to identify those -- but otherwise, she didn't know which ones tasted better than others, or which ones made better soup. She found a small cluster and leaned down to look at them. They looked... slimy. But maybe it wouldn't matter once they were cooked? Curious, she nibbled on one to see how it would taste.
"Wait, Winberry -- don't eat that one!" Rafael hurried to catch up to his bonded, panting and out of breath. Too late. He sighed. "You should lay down; you'll be fine, but it might make you a little dizzy... there, that's it," he said, leaning against Wineberry's shoulder as she lowered herself to the ground. Her eyelids kept drooping, and Rafael knew she was probably going to pass out -- at least for a short time. He'd stay by her side until she was awake again. |

Cosima blinked as a small group of tiny animals gathered in front of her, starting to do neat little tricks. How... strange. Oddly, she found she couldn't look away -- and soon enough, the others in the group joined her to watch. They jumped and leaped, and Cosima couldn't help but wonder why they decided to put on this impromptu little show. Regardless, it was a little impressive, and she couldn't help but smile. At least they seemed to be having fun, and her companions were enjoying themselves watching them too.
Void kept herself behind Cosima's legs, but she peeked around them just enough so she could watch. She found the whole thing a little unnerving; she didn't understand why they were doing it or what they expected. They didn't exactly have anything to offer the critters in return for their entertainment. The whole group was so enraptured by the show that they didn't notice the other critters behind them, sneaking away with the mushroom Parthenos had gathered earlier. |

Once the little show was over and the critters scampered off without so much as a bow, Esperance shook her head and smiled to herself. What odd little things they were! It was a fun break, though, but now it was back to work! She broke off from the group, intent on covering more ground, but nodded her head to motion for Cosima to continue along with her. Together, she showed her how to spot locations were mushrooms were more likely to grow, and they managed to find a nice, hearty cluster of mushrooms ripe for the picking. Cosima added the mushrooms she found to Esperence's bag, and she pulled it closed once they'd cleared out the fully grown mushrooms. "What a find! A few more like those, and we'll be golden." |

Parthenos was foraging around in a fallen, rotting tree for some mushrooms, but with no luck -- he frowned as he backed out of it... and right into a thicket of brambles! He yelped and tried to jump away, but his leg was caught in one of the spiny vines. "Ow, ow, ow!" he wined, trying to wiggle his leg free. What a pain! "Cygnus! Help?" he pleaded with his owl familiar, knowing he wouldn't say no.
Cygnus quickly swooped down to help before Parthenos even asked. He nodded. "Stay still, I'll get you free," he assured, ducking his head down when Parthenos stopped struggling. He used his sharp beak to bite through the vines, pulling away once they'd all fallen off. Parthenos stepped free, wiggling his leg out a little to shake off the pain. "Be more careful," he chided, nipping playfully at Parthenos' tail.
"I will, I will!" Parthenos laughed, swishing his tail away from Cygnus. "I didn't even see it there; it was behind me... I'll be more careful!" |

Wineberry jumped back when the critters returned, doing another set of tricks. She had enjoyed it the first time, but now it was just -- strange. "This... this isn't necessary, but thank you!" she said, keeping her tone polite and friendly. She appreciated the entertainment, but she and the others were kind of busy... she glanced back at her group; some of them decided to ignore the critters this time and keep working, but a few wandered over to join her with a frown. They all glanced worriedly at each other, wondering if this was just how the critters in this forest acted. Maybe they were just lonely? Wineberry supposed the least she could do was watch their show -- the last one was fairly short, too. They weren't in a hurry.
"Well, it would be rude to walk away now," Rafael whispered to Wineberry, but he was a little confused by the encore show too. With a shrug, he sat down to watch. With half the group still searching for mushrooms, and the other half watching the critters, once again they were unaware of the other critters sneaking away with another mushroom from their collection. |

Cosima, Void, and Esperence were wary when some critters emerged from the woods again. They really didn't want another show, but were too polite to say no... thankfully, the critters only seemed interested in helping them, laying out a few mushrooms in front of them before heading off back into the woods. Cosima couldn't help but sigh in relief, then laughed a little, glancing at Esperence. "I never thought I'd become so uneasy around forest creatures. After this trip, I may avoid the woods for a little while..."
Void couldn't agree more; she was tired of the shows the critters were trying to put on for them. It felt rude to think so, but the more it happened, the more she just wanted to be done with this. At least a few of them seemed intent on helping instead of distracting them; she was grateful for that. The sooner they gathered up all the mushrooms, the better. |

It couldn't be said that Baneberry was the most observant of soquili. One wrong step and his foot got caught on a root, and he was falling right into a thicket of brambles. Instantly, he closed up his wings to try and protect them as best he could, struggling to get free of the bushes. He whimpered when he climbed out, hide full of thorns that he knew were going to take a while to get out. He just hoped he wouldn't miss any... and in the midst of his task, when he reached back to pull out another thorn, he noticed he'd managed to tear a hole in his satchel, too. Some of the mushrooms must have fallen out when he fell... ugh! He sighed heavily, wondering why this trip was going so far south, and then spit out another thorn he pulled from his thigh. This wasn't fun at all! |
