Bumblebreeze wasn't so sure about this. His whiskers twitched as he watched his mom's body movements closely. Shadowstar had insisted that him and his sister learn how to defend themselves. At least, that's what he understood, from both his mother and his sister. Why else would he need to be taught basic moves? Of course, after the fox breaking into the den, even the deaf cat found it logical at least.

What had the fox sounded like?

Shaking those thoughts from his head, Bumblepaw leaped forward and aimed a blow at his mom's side.

Flamedapple partly didn't like this but after the fox attack, also agreed it necessary despite Bumblebreeze and Cardinalwhisper aiming to study under Stonebelly as medicine cat apprentices. "Just watch my moves and remember what we practiced." she spoke to her kitten, knowing he couldn't hear her. It didn't stop her. With her tail and body she made signals to match her words. She turned, leaving her side open to see what he'd do and was surprised when he slammed into her with a good amount of force.

Stumbling backwards she regained her footing and smiled. "Good!" she purred, tail movements and facial expressions accompanying. He still seemed confused and concerned to be attacking his own mom and she simply smiled still. Darting forward she aimed to fake him out but he saw her too soon and her blow fell off mark. "Excellent!"

Bumble smiled as his mother encouraged him and he managed to dodge half of her move. He blinked, wondering at first if she had gone easy on him or had he actually learned something? Her smile and body language said otherwise however and he smiled, nodding. Tensing back he aimed for another blow at her side, springing with all he had.

She was fast though and he only managed to graze her side as she leaped out of the way. A hiss escaped him and he paused, blinking in surprise. Flamedapple only seemed to laugh and encouraged it, her facial expressions mirroring a hiss herself. If she really did however, he wasn't sure. The silence around him seemed to compress inward on himself in that moment and he found his muscles going stiff.

Feeling that he was getting into it, Flamedapple moved forward with a charge and a pin, easily taking her son to the ground. Paw raised, she stopped, noting the look in his eyes.

Backing off, she helped him to his paws and groomed behind his ears a bit, encouraging him to keep trying. "It's alright. I know its strange." she frowned, really not knowing at all. She couldn't imagine a world without sound. She had tried many many times and yet still she found she could hear everything even when she tried not too.

"Don't give up." she said to him, purring and nudging him to continue. He was doing good and he was stronger than he thought. If any future fox slipped into camp he'd be able to defend the medicine cat den and all who were inside at least. And that made her proud.

Already feeling worn out, Bumblebreeze got to his paws slowly. He panted, glancing at his mom. He leaned into the grooming, her reassurance always a welcome relief. Giving a soft purr of his own, he nodded, somehow just knowing what she was telling him to do.

Backing up he positioned himself again. He circled her, watching her closely. Watching her muscles ripple, tense and relax. He waited until she seemed unsure and then he sprang. He sprang with everything he had, all force to his back legs as he kicked off the ground and slammed into her side, this time, sending her to the ground.

Standing over her with his paws firmly on her side he stared down at her. Then smiled and nuzzled and laughed an awkward laugh but still a laugh in its own. He had done it! Or at least, he had managed to trip her up!

Surprised was an understatement.

He had completely caught her off guard and sent her to the ground in mirror image of what she had done to him. Blinking, she allowed herself to catch her breath before laughing. Purring loudly she head butted him until he got off and got to her paws. "My little Bumble, you are doing so well!" she said, nuzzling him again before playfully batting at his shoulder.

She could tell he was still tired however, as the events of the fox slipping into Riverclan hadn't been but a day and few hours ago. Nodding, she waved him over with her tail, letting him curl up at her paws as she groomed down his fur. "We can practice again tomorrow some, with your sister, before you go searching for herbs." she said softly though she knew he couldn't hear or see her. His eyes had already fallen shut.

What did surprise her though, was the soft "Agaiwn." that came from his throat as he purred and relaxed against her. Flamedapple smiled, sending a silent thank you to Starclan and Forestclan, whoever would listen to her in this moment, for sending her two lovely little kittens.


She gives in.
