I am Jaques colon

(This is a poem that I wrote a couple of months ago. It's somewhat of a commentary on corporations and the food that the FDA is shoving down our throat. There are a few other political references in the last part, but its mainly related to chemically-treated foods.)

I am a barbarian
unknowing in the ways of the civillized.

I don't need your orange peeler-
I have a thumbnail, yes, a thumbnail
that tears into the dimpled hide
and removes a flap of skin
yellow on one side and orange on the other.

I don't need your spoon-
I neglect to tear each section from section
instead biting straight into the mass
and removing a fair-sized amount
from the orb's bounty.

I don't need your napkin-
I let the juice flow down my chin
only to be lapped up by an eager tongue
anxious for the next taste
of nature's goodness.

That's right, I say to you
with your looks of disgust
obviously picturing a grotesque scene
with this barbarian devouring a human head
before your very eyes.

And before your next thought makes istelf known
I make you realize my message, my point,
by saying:

I don't need your treatments-
Your flash-fried freeze-dried pesticide suicide
artificially flavored superficially tailored
conglomerated corporated additive preservative
conservative liberal bias and brand new diets
with half the fat and half the fact
exasperated educated lubricated
gum arabic bomb arabics
inspected by 8 and make me irate
holy hand grenaded newly speculated
warnings about allergies.

I am a barbarian
unknowing in the ways of the civillized.

Hehe, very nicely done! I quite enjoyed that one. Especially the mockeries of society, and all the politeness we have. And you are right, we have no need for that. I do kinda see why they put the crap in food (allowing for more shelf-life, therefore more profits), but that's only the practical, economical side of myself. The rest is horrified by it. But back to your writing, very well written. The almost brutalness of the barbarian shows simply our needs. What we need to live, not the chemicals they inject.

Thank you, friend! I needed that. I'm glad that you enjoyed my poem and even more so that you got the message.

But I, personally, still think it needs a little work.

Would you mind if I kidnap this poem, and put it where other people can see it?
And if you don't mind, what name should I put under it?

Reject the basic assumptions of civilization.

Fatal Hilarity

This is a wonderfully written piece of work. I agree with your viewpoints on the FDA and all of this garbage they try to pull off as 'food', and this poem conveys that in a way I never would be able to pull off.

I applaud you.
