The wife wants us to get advanced directives in place in-case something happens and we are not able to speak for ourselves. She is concerned with horror stories she has heard where the wishes of family are ignored by doctors because there was no advanced directive in place. Personally, I believe that if they ignore family wishes, they would just as easily ignore the directive but whatever.

UPDATE: Apparently there are hospital rights to force 30 days of life support unless a directive says otherwise.

We have a couple of documents here that control medical voice and financial control: Power of Attorney (Alive $), Executive Director (Estate $), and Acting Health Directive (Medical Voice).
If you have these all where you live, best to get them done all at once smile
