Oregano's Fair

Strawberry didn't move as the trio went back to their human. He didn't put it past the gold to decide to have the last word by doing something ill-advised. The blue waited until all three had climbed onto the human and she had begun to walk away before he turned to Oregano and the newest green. Oregano was nuzzling and crooning softly at the somewhat battered hatchling. Strawberry gave a slight huff. More mouths to feed, but he was less bothered by this addition than the first two. At least she was plucky. Walking up carefully he gently licked at the ichor that was beading on her skin. The pricks weren't too bad, but the fair would be sure to keep an eye on them for her.

Carefully the older green nosed the youngster to standing, sending thoughts of love and encouragement her way. Looking around Oregano's gaze landed on the pile of firelizards, Durian and Blackcurrant sitting and watching from a distance. A thought was all it took and the blue and green were on their feet, cheeping at the sleeping pile. They should move now. All the firelizards had found home and people would be leaving soon. It was best to get out of the way before any tails got trodden on. The adults were easy enough to rouse, but Birthroot and Muscari were trying to sleep off their meals. It took a lot of supportive crooning and nuzzling to get the two greens walking.

They didn't need to get far. No dragons were using the sands, so they could spend the rest of the day here in the warm until the youngster wanted to leave. Oregano was already considering who to send out to gather food for when they next woke, even as she guided their third addition to the fair. Strawberry scooped up a mouthful of scraps, a motion copied by Durian and Blackcurrant. Snowball sleepily accepting any food she was offered by her new fairmates. She was far too tired to be picky. Once they reached the edge of the sands, where passersby wouldn't accidentally step on them, the green immediately flopped over in the warm sand. Oregano positioned herself near the centre of the gathering, making sure she could keep an eye on all her new charges. The older firelizards positioned themselves on the outskirts, laying tails and wings over the hatchlings to keep them safe. It wasn't long before the majority of the fair were happily asleep in the warm sand.

K'lir and Ostarath

The basket was now empty and many happy individuals were leaving with new companions. Ostarath nodded a pleasant farewell to those that bid her farewell, but didn't feel ignored by those who didn't. Many had their hands full now and seeing them happy was enough for her. Others she knew would be disappointed, and it would be unfair to expect thanks from them. All the firelizards had found homes and that was all the green had really wanted. Many individuals in the Weyr would feel closeness and love today, and she felt that providing that to some was the least she could do.

You did not try to bond to a firelizard. Her large eyes turned to K'lir. He was smiling and watching as people filed out of the cavern. Shrugging the young man turned his smile to his dragon.

"Nah, I reckon I have my hands full enough already," he said affectionately, reaching up to pat Ostarath's snout. The green knew her rider meant no harm by it. Even when she was causing him trouble his love for her never wavered. "We should clean this up I suppose," K'lir said with a sigh, dropping to his knees. The sand belonged here, but it was polite to clean up the shards and any food remnants. They didn't want to encourage tunnelsnakes and then get the punishment for that.

Shall we race once we are done, K'lir? It had been so long that she had been waiting here for all the firelizards to have homes. The green was eager to get moving again. Already Ostarath had begun to shuffle as she stood over K'lir, who chuckled at her request.

"Sure thing, Os, but we have to get cleaned up first."
