Yushow Sukaki was Domino City's best duel-tainer the world had ever seen until one day, he mysteriously vanished when he was supposed to duel a man known as the sledgehammer. Yuya, who is Yushow's son, wants to be a duel-tainer too and has spent his entire life polishing his skills. Now with a chance to redeem his father's bad name, Yuya is facing the sledgehammer and has just pulled off what is called a pendulum summoning. But, what does this mean exactly? Stay tuned.

After beating the Sledgehammer, there were a bunch of students wanting to enroll into the Youshow school, however these students only wanted to see more pendulum summoning when Yuya wasn't entirely sure of how it worked.
When he dueled against Zuzu and lost to her melodius deck, only one new student remained. His name was Tate and he was duel tained by the way that Yuya duels and wants to be like him.

After a very interesting math class, Yuya is halted by a boy named Sylvio who claimed to be a fan of Yuya's, which was a lie. He takes Yuya's pendulum cards and duels him at the Leo Institute of Dueling. On top of this, Yuya's true friends are in danger due to the action field that they are on. How will Yuya get out of this one? Stay tuned.

Using some clever strategies and proving that weak monsters can have their benefits too, Yuya manages to defeat Sylvio and when doing so, he gains a new friend named Sora.

Sora pesters Yuya to become his teacher until a duel breaks out where the agreement is if Sora wins, then Yuya becomes Sora's teacher, but... if Yuya wins, then Sora must leave Yuya alone.

After a very intense duel, Yuya ends up winning. But Sora refuses to leave Yuya alone and enrolls at the school so he can be even closer to Yuya.

Sylvio planned some sort of revenge against Yuya in a warehouse on the docks, but Zuzu caught wind of it and challenged Sylvio to a duel. Before the duel could start however, a mystery man who was watching from the shadows takes Zuzu's place in the duel and wins handily. The thing is, it was a shadow duel meaning every hit was felt. When the mystery man shows his face, he looked exactly like Yuya save for the purple hair. Zuzu's bracelet glowed and the mystery man disappeared and Yuya showed up asking Zuzu if she was okay.

The chairwoman of the Leo corp hears about how Sylvio got hurt in his battle with the mystery man, and thinks that Yuya was responsible. To settle this matter, the chairwoman has suggested a 3 on 3 duel and if Leo wins, then Leo takes over Youshow, but if Youshow wins, the incident is forgotten. The duelists representing the Leo institute have mastered each type of summoning except for Pendulum. Dipper is going first and he is facing off against Yuya.

After a rocky start, Yuya manages to win because of the fact that Xyz monsters have ranks and not levels and therefore Yuya's monsters gained the power boost they needed to win the duel.

Zuzu being distracted by what she saw in the warehouse compared to what the claims against Yuya are, she loses quickly against Julia who uses fusion summoning. Sora gives up his spot to Gong, where Gong faces a synchro summoner named Kit.

Gong ended up tying against Kit so now Declan will face Yuya to decide it all.

Declan proves to be a formidable opponent considering that he can use 3 different methods of summoning so far. He can fusion summon, synchro summon, and he can xyz summon too. But the question is, is there more to Declan that he has yet to reveal?

Declan revealed that he can pendulum summon also, thus surprising Yuya. Thanks to an emergency at the office, Declan had to forfeit the duel therefore the You Show duel school was saved.

Yuya was feeling sorry for himself because Declan could pendulum summon not realizing that he should be feeling happy if not proud that others want to do pendulum summoning like him. Yuya wins the duel against Principal Boyle with a new outlook on life.

In order to join the junior arc league championship, someone of a certain age group must win 60 percent of 50 duels to qualify. Yuya needs to win 4 duels before he gets in. Niko Smiley will help him do this. Meanwhile Zuzu begs Sora to teach her fusion summoning when she runs into the mystery xyz summoner again who looks like Yuya.
