Welcome to the Crown Tundra Safari Contest! Sponsored by the Association of Safari Zones, Chairman Baoba and Macro Cosmos! Typically, at the Safari Zones around the world we hold capture contests. As the name implies it is a contest to see who can catch the biggest, rarest Pokemon out there! Today we will be holding a special Safari Contest, here in the Crown Tundra in celebration of the World Champion Cup!

The contest is simple, in the Crown Tundra you will find many different kinds of Pokemon, from all over the world in fact! We give participants three Safari Balls to use and attempt to capture the best Pokemon they can, or you can use any three Pokeballs of their own, if you do, we do not give you any Safari Balls. [You may use one of yours and two of ours and so forth. You are only allowed to use three Pokeballs total.] You are allowed to take just one of your own Pokemon into the park to use to weaken a wild Pokemon for capture, so don't let it get knocked out! Pokemon are judged on their quality, rarity, and how well the capture was roleplayed. So are you interested? Then sign up, take your Safari Balls, and hit the grass and find the best Pokemon you can!

In the spoiler tag below is a map of the Crown Tundra with four different quadrants highlighted. You'll find different Pokemon in each quadrant and the lists for these quadrants are found at the bottom of the posts in spoiler tags. The quadrants, and their corresponding number on the map, are as follows.

1. Central Tundra

2. Southern Lake

3. Northern Mountains

4. Eastern Sea

How to Participate:

The rules for the Safari Contest are simple. Pick one Pokemon to use in the contest, and when you post your character looking for a Pokemon use the random number generator to find out what Pokemon your character finds. Set the lowest number to 1 and the highest to 50 for all areas. Please be sure to state which area you are in at least in your first post for each area. You may travel to different areas if you wish. Once your post goes through, check to see what number you got, then, look at the list of available Pokemon, at the bottom of this post, to see what Pokemon appeared.

Then, in your next post once the Pokemon has been decided, begin battling it all in one post. But before you post your battle, use the Random Number generator again to see if the capture was successful, setting the lowest to 1 and the highest to 10, however, different Pokeballs have different success rates depending on what Pokemon or area you are using them on/in. Consult the list below to see what Pokeballs benefit this area.

----------

[Safari Ball] 50% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Pokeball] 50% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Great Ball] 60% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Ultra Ball] 70% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Net Ball] 70% Success Rate on Bug and Water type Pokemon, 50% on all others.

[Dive Ball] 70% Success Rate on Water type Pokemon, 50% on all others.

[Dusk Ball] 70% Success Rate on Pokemon found in caves, 50% on anything else.

[Nest Ball] 70% Success Rate if Pokemon is a lower stage than your own Pokemon.

[Repeat Ball] 70% Success Rate. Allows a fourth and final capture attempt after the previous three have failed.

[Quick Ball] 80% Success Rate on your first Pokemon encountered only, 50% on all consecutive.

[Timer Ball] 80% Success Rate if it's your last Pokeball only, 50% on any prior.

[Heal Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon if you failed to capture it once already, 50% if not.

[Luxury Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon that evolves with happiness.

[Fast Ball] 80% Success Rate on a fast Pokemon.

[Heavy Ball] 80% Success Rate on a heavy Pokemon.

[Level Ball] 80% Success Rate on a first stage Pokemon (Spearow, Stunfisk, etc.), 50% on all others.

[Love Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon with only a single gender, 50% on all others.

[Lure Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon fished out of the water.

[Friend Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon that evolves with happiness.

For success rates of 50%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

For success rates of 60%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

For success rates of 70%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

For success rates of 80%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

For success rates of 90%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

----------

As long as you still have Pokeballs you may continue to hunt and capture Pokemon until you get one you are comfortable with. If you catch a Pokemon, but then choose to catch another, you must release the first Pokemon you caught before keeping the second. Once you run out of Pokeballs your time is up and the Pokemon you last caught will be the one judged.

When everyone is done (a specified time will be given when the contest will end, regardless if others are done) all Pokemon caught will be judged. Each Pokemon will be judged individually in separate posts where a random number will be used to judge their quality, between 1 and 5 and the number it lands on will be its quality. The other stat taken into consideration is the Pokemon's rarity, its species. A rather common Pokemon like Spearow won't give as much points as a Pokemon like Absol would give much more. However, with quality, a Spearow could beat out a Absol.

Contestant Prizes:

Prizes will be given out to the top three contestants, as well as a consolation prize to those who don't make the top three. All participants get to keep the Pokemon they caught. The first place contestant may choose to get a Snag Emblem or additional Snag Coins apart from the normal prize.

1st place prize: 15 Snag Coins and one Snag Emblem OR 25 Snag Coins OR Rare Candy!

2nd place prize: 15 Snag Coins

3rd place prize: 10 Snag Coins

All participants who did not place receive 5 Snag Coins as a consolation prize as well as their captured Pokemon. Snag Coins can be spent in the Snag Mall.

Also, if you use a Pokemon that's not fully evolved that Pokemon will earn Evolution Points/Happiness Points at the end of the contest depending on how many Pokemon it knocked out. For Evolution Points your Pokemon gains 0.50 points for first stage (Caterpie), 0.60 points for second stage (Metapod), 0.70 points for base (Tauros), and 0.80 points for third stage (Butterfree). For Happiness Points you must battle at least five Pokemon to gain one happiness point, including a successful capture. If not catching anything then it's seven battles. You can also gain Purification Points in the same way as Evolution Points. Don't worry, the Safari Zone is protected by an Immunizer so no virus spreading here! Evolution/Purification Points will be rounded up at the end and we ask you post how many points you accrued in your final post. Bonus points (Evolution, Purification, or Happiness Points) will be rewarded to all participants at the end based on how much effort and content went into your posts. You may lose points if your battles were one liners or just in general lacked any effort.

For the purpose of training you may also use your newly captured Pokemon right away.

And that's it! Get out there and have fun!

UPDATE: Roll the same Pokemon twice in a row and you may have the third encounter be that Pokemon’s next evolutionary stage! Add +1 to star rarity.

Furthermore roll the same Pokemon three times in a row and the third one is shiny! Applies only once per the entirety of Safari Contest. First one to capture shiny gets it.If not captured others may roll a shiny.

Amber arrived at the Crown Tundra, Spooky, her Shuppet, by her side. They were headed to the Eastern Sea, wanting to see what kind of Pokemon they could find to add to the team. She knew Spooky hated his Pokeball, and he understood that she could only have one Pokemon out at a time, so he volunteered to be the one she could choose, so that he would be able to protect her.

That being said, she needed to get to her destination, and thankfully, it didn't take long. Perhaps there would be some Ghost-types she could find. She wasn't really sure why, but for some reason, she had what seemed like an affinity for Ghost-types, unlike her parents, who trained multiple types. She had a feeling it was because of Spooky, and how the two had met. "Alright, Spooky, let's see if we can't find some new friends, shall we?" she said. Spooky didn't audibly respond, just nodding her head as the two reached their destination.

As the two walked, they could see several Pokemon milling about, including a rather curious Spheal. She wasn't particularly interested in catching another Water-type at the moment, and Spooky paid the Water/Ice-type no mind. Seeing it wouldn't get any reaction, the Spheal waddled away, hoping to find a more interesting person to interact with.

Amber smiled as she watched Spooky looking at their surroundings. They didn't often get a chance to relax, so they were both taking the chance while they could. That didn't mean, however, that they wouldn't be ready to battle at a moment's notice, as an inquisitive Phantump quickly found out when it got too close. A quickly fired Shadow Ball sent the Ghost/Grass-type reeling, and it shook its head as it gave an angry look in the direction the Shadow Ball had come from. Seeing Spooky floating there in front of Amber, an expressionless look on his face, had the Phantump almost jumping in anticipation. Perhaps this would be just the thing it needed to be able to make itself stronger.

Spooky waited to see what the Phantump would do, and he watched as it used Ingrain, effectively rooting itself in place. It would be interesting to see how this battle would turn out. As soon as the Phantump was done using Ingrain, it fired off a Branch Poke. Spooky, not sure what the move was, growled as he was hit by the attack, then used Will-O-Wisp in response. The Phantump, rooted as it was, couldn't avoid the attack in time, and Amber smiled a bit as she saw flames engulf it, knowing a Burn had been landed. "We'll have to be careful, Spooky," she said. "With that burn, we can't use any of your more powerful Ghost-type moves, otherwise we'll knock it out."

Spooky, knowing she was right, gave a slight nod, never taking his eyes off the Phantump. The Ghost/Grass-type, irritated by the Burn, was quick to fire off a Leech Seed, hoping to gain some HP back, on top of what it would gain from Ingrain. It missed, though, as Spooky saw it coming and was quick to dodge. He wouldn't allow himself to be hit again, and as Phantump took damage from the Burn again, the Shuppet let loose with a Spite, cutting the PP of Leech Seed. Phantump, not at all happy with this turn of events, decided it'd had enough playing around, and used Shadow Claw.

Spooky was unable to dodge in time, and wound up taking the brunt of the attack. With it being a Ghost-type attack, it did a fair amount of damage, and the Shuppet cried out in pain from the Shadow Claw. When the pain subsided, Spooky opened his eyes and looked at the Phantump, his eyes blazing with anger at taking so much damage. He was done being nice; despite what Amber said, he had to end this, before he was hit with another super-effective attack. With that in mind, he was about to use Shadow Sneak, but before he could do so, something flashed through the air, hitting the Phantump with a soft noise.

Spooky watched as the Phantump was sucked inside the Level ball, and it fell to the ground, shaking violently for several moments before it finally stopped moving and dinged, signifying a successful capture. Amber walked forward, picking up the Level ball containing her newest capture, then used a Potion on Spooky and gave him a smile. "Well done, Spooky," she said, giving the Shuppet a fond pat on the head. He leaned into her hand, giving a happy noise that he was able to please her. When he was ready, the two continued on, wondering what their next encounter would be.

Requiem of Whyspers

Fashionable Shapeshifter

PostPosted: Fri Dec 10, 2021 8:24 pm

Clare arrived at the Crown Tundra bundled up in rather warm clothes, knowing that they were susceptible to the cold. They carried a single Pokeball on them containing the only Pokemon they had obtained in this world so far. They'd been told this might be a good place to learn more about what the small creature could do as well as being a good chance at possibly obtaining a new one to help support them as they learned more about the world in which they had found themself.

Approaching the signup desk, they would sign their own name as well as the name and species of their partner Pokemon - an apparently recently hatched Dreepy they had dubbed Visage - and accepted the three Safari Balls they'd been given to participate with. Afterward, they'd go look at the map which showed the various zones in which they could choose to participate. "Oh dear... I'm not sure where to begin..." Releasing the Dreepy they had obtained, they'd request it's aid in making the decision. "I heard your kind are from this region... Any suggestions on where to begin?"

Visage floated up to the map and gave it a moment of consideration before eagerly pointing to one section in particular.

((I see several I like but none that especially stand out so we're going to randomize the location.))

Clare would have to ask the sign-up attendant for guidance to the northern mountain but after receiving the directions, they would show an uncanny ability to remember and follow them almost flawlessly. Upon reaching the snowy mountains, they'd have found Visage tucked inside their long coat, bundled up and snoozing in the warmth. "I almost don't want to ask you to battle but I need to know what you can do before I can expect much of you." They announced to the small Dragon-type with a smaller laugh.

It wouldn't take long before the first of the local wildlife made itself known to them, however.

Amber and Spooky continued walking, just enjoying the scenery as they did so. Spooky, ever on alert, actually let his guard down for a few minutes, something he wouldn't have done had he felt Amber was in any danger. That being said, nothing seemed to want to approach after their battle with the Phantump. It was like the wild Pokemon were a little....scared of them now. Amber knew that Spooky wasn't the most friendly Pokemon at first, but that was because of how he'd been treated by his last trainer. Still, it would be good for him to battle, to get some experience, since he rarely actually did any battling, prefering to leave that up to Bubbles.

Deciding to shake off the rust and get back into the field Sub took the decision to participate in the Safari Contest. Upon hearing it was the Crown Tundra, a place he was unfamiliar with, he decided to do a little bit of research, his winter attire proof of it. Wrapping his white scarf around his neck once more he released his Pokemon of choice for this, Hemlock the Oddish. The little weed Pokemon was very close to evolution, at least according to GRAY, so the Dark One figured he would be the perfect choice for this. Not only by the end would he have a fresh capture but likely a newly evolved Gloom.

With the happy Poison type bouncing around him Sub set off through the Central Tundra, pushing off from Freezington. Terrible name for a town, he couldn't help but think.

Not long before they left Freezington did Sub come across his first wild Pokemon in the contest; a Magby. The small Fire type was entertaining its self by melting snow with its Ember, the young creature quacking with glee as the snow melted to reveal grass underneath. Mildly surprised to see a Fire type out here the man thought about it a little more and came to the conclusion there might just be a volcanic mountain nearby, furthermore Fire types weren't bothered by the cold weather anyways so it wasn't all that surprising.

Looking down at Hemlock Sub realized this was a very poor match up for his Oddish. True, Hemlock had moves that were at least effective against a Magby and Hemlock was fairly strong for an Oddish but alas it was a frail creature in this stage and even a Magby would be enough to give it trouble. Deciding not to bother it the pair kept moving forward.

Making down a small slop Sub stopped dead in his tracks upon seeing a small black and white creature erratically run through the snow, going from one patch of grass to the other, kicking up snow with glee as its tongue hung out of its mouth. The Dark One recognized it instantly, he had seen them in the wild during the World Champion Cup and even closer in the form of the one Blizzard himself had caught. A Galarian Zigzagoon. From the time he laid eyes on one of the species, and especially after Blizzard brought one home, the Snagem leader just knew he had to have one for himself.

Looking down at Hemlock he gave the little Grass type a nod and pointed at the patch of land between the two patches of tall grass. "Hemlock, use Grass Knot!" He commanded.

Hemlock would respond by stomping one tiny foot through the snow and shaking its glowing leaves. The ground right in front of the running Zigzagoon would come to life as a cluster of wriggling grass took it by surprise as it sprung up from the snow. The Dark type didn't have time to stop and tripped right over the grass as it ran right over it, the little hyper fur ball sent tumbling a bit forward.

Once its roll came to a stop the now angered Zigzagoon noticed its attackers and went on the offense its self. Shocking them both by running in a straight line this time the Zigzagoon slammed into Hemlock head first with a Headbutt, knocking the Weed Pokemon off its feet and sending it tumbling this time.

"Retaliate with Razor Leaf!" Sub called out to his Pokemon as it was getting back up. With a cute little growl Hemlock would execute the command by flicking a few of its blades of 'grass' at the Zigzagoon, the normally wiggle and soft appendages now firm and razor sharp as they slashed the furry creature as they whizzed through the air, taking a little bit of fur off its body.

With a hiss the Zigzagoon decided it was not going to just sit there and take that and sprang forward, pouncing on Hemlock, knocking it to the ground. As the Pokemon sat on top of the Oddish it delivered a nasty and extremely wet Lick. Sub could see Hemlock's disgusted reaction as it shivered and the trainer himself even felt himself recoil a little bit. Fortunately for them it didn't seem to inflict paralysis.

"Now! Use Giga Drain and hold it!" Sub said, seeing this as their opportunity to really pin it down. Not bothering to get the Zigzagoon off of it Hemlock would wrap its blades of grass around it the best it could and began to suck the life force right out of, stealing away its energy. The Zigzagoon struggled to get free and eventually would but Sub would note its movements were getting sluggish. Now was their chance.

"Come to the Dark One!" Sub cried out as he tossed a Dusk Ball at the Galarian Zigzagoon, the ball popping open with a swirling vortex of 'dark energy' conjured from inside and sucking the creature into its confines. The ball would slam shut and fall into the snow shaking.

William is stopped early in his exploration by a wild Audino, and responds by releasing his Gossifleur, Hydrangea. "Oh, wait, neither of you have Fighting-type moves," he said, his features contorting with worry. "Let's hope it doesn't have any moves you're weak against. I suppose we'll have to play the long game with this one. Use Stun Spore."

Hydrangea complied, and the move hit. Unfortunately for William, the Audino managed to push past the onset of paralysis to use Disarming Voice, though that didn't do much to harm Hydrangea.

"Okay, now use Leech Seed," William ordered. Hydrangea launched some seeds from her mouth that, on impact, started growing vines around the wild Audino and began sapping its health. The Audino attempted to react to this, but was unable to push past the paralysis.

"Good, this is going well so far. Now, use Substitute," William commanded. Hydrangea tore some of the leaves out of her body and made a totem of what she thought she looked like, then placed that in front of her so she could hide behind it. The wild Audino did not approve of neither the craftsmanship, nor the turtling tactic, and in a fit of rage, screamed at the top of it's lungs, assaulting Hydrangea's ears with its voice and its life essence with Hyper Voice. The energy of the move tore through the totem doll and struck at Hydrangea herself, though not with near as much oomph as it would if Substitute wasn't used. The leaves that were torn out, however, had already started to grow back.

"Augh, my ears," William whined, holding his hands over his ears in an attempt to shield them. "Go on the offensive! Razor Leaf!" he shouted, unable to tell how loud he was being. Hydrangea used Grass-type energy to pick up the leaves from the shattered Substitute and to sharpen them to a razor's edge before launching them at Audino. The Normal-type tried to dodge, but froze up due to paralysis and got hit by the attack.

"Okay, let's see if that did it," William sighed, taking his hands off his ears so he could throw a Safari Ball.

It wouldn't take long at all for Clare and Visage to find themselves approached by some of the local fauna, if one could call the sentient coal that rolled it's way out of the grasses at the base of a nearby cliff face. "Visage dear... It's time to show me what you can do." The hybrid stated as the Dreepy snuggled into their coat was fished out and held out in front of them. They'd learned rather quickly that these Pokemon could be rather easily understood and that made it easier to learn what kinds of moves it knew. The new SNAG model they'd been provided with helped as well. It took a moment to pull up the information but they were able to scan Visage and get it's information as well as scanning the Rolycoly that had approached.

The fight wouldn't end up lasting very long, however. Visage would attempt to use Thunder Wave, sending a weak jolt of electrical energy toward Rolycoly to slow it down and make it an easier target to deal with but the Coal Pokemon wasn't having it, sending a gout of flames erupting from it's body with Incinerate, it overpowered the electrical pulse but the attack wasn't aimed at Visage. No, it was aimed at Clare. The hybrid stumbled backward to escape the heat, their body glowing slightly from the heat for just a moment before the cold air cooled them back down. "No... No no no." They whimpered. "Visage, let's go! I'm not dealing with that!" Visage nodded and attempted to follow as Clare turned and started down the mountain again, heading toward the lake they could see in the not-too-far distance.

The dragon-type would be glad for it's supernatural senses when it used Double Team to narrowly evade a Smack Down attack thrown at it when Rolycoly spun it's rocky wheel in place to fling a stone at it. Turning around once again, to properly face the Rolycoly, it used Quick Attack to dash in close and slammed it's body head against the Rock-type's side to knock it off-kilter. Rolycoly, caught off guard only slightly by the sudden movement spun it's wheel in place for a a half second to sling a sludgy mix of snow and dirt into Visage's face with Mud Slap. The Dreepy gave Rolycoly a look that simply read "Today is not the day" before it's tiny tail glowed with an indigo light and it spun on the spot, striking Rolycoly with a Dragon Tail that sent it spinning back into the grass.

Afterward, Visage would float after Clare, returning to their side rather quickly and tucking itself back into their coat for the journey back toward the lake.

Amber and Spooky had just walked toward the water's edge when something caught her eye, and she turned to see a Pokemon she'd thought extinct. A rounded, spiral shell, with tentacles and eyes coming from the shell marked this Pokemon as a Omanyte. She'd only heard of the fossil Pokemon, and hadn't expected to see one here, of all places. Perhaps the scientists here in Galar were more successful at restoring fossils, or perhaps Pokemon they'd originally thought extinct weren't really extinct, but had been hibernating or living in places humans couldn't reach.

Either way, she couldn't let an opportunity like this pass her up. "Spooky, let's see if we can't catch this one, too, shall we?" she said, and the Shuppet gave a nod as he readied himself for battle. The Omanyte, on the other hand, didn't seem to notice them, at least, not until Spooky fired a Shadow Ball at it. The Omanyte, angry at its peace being disturbed, quickly turned to Spooky and retaliated with Bite. Spooky, seeing the move coming, tried to dodge, but got caught by the very end of the attack, so he did take some damage. Amber, seeing the super-effective attack land, even if only just a little, knew they couldn't let that hit again. "Use Spite!" she called, and Spooky obeyed, effectively lowering the number of times Bite could be used.

Bite is an egg move for Omanyte, isn't it? Amber thought, watching the battle closely. Perhaps we can lower its defense, or hit it with a status effect. As she was thinking this, the Omanyte went for a Bite again, but Spooky was ready for it this time, veering to one side and using a point-blank Will-O-Wisp. The Omanyte cried out as it gained a Burn, anger in its eyes as it honed in on Spooky. "We've made it angry, Spooky," Amber said. "Watch what it does next, then use Hex."

The Omanyte, deciding it was done fooling around, fired a Rock Blast. Thankfully, it only hit twice, but it still did enough damage that Spooky growled irritatedly. Following Amber's orders, he used Hex, and with the Burn it had sustained, this did quite a bit of damage to the Omanyte, who cried out in pain again. Amber, knowing this was her chance, tossed a Dive Ball at it, hoping that she would be able to catch it.
