In a world where vampires broke the Masquerade and won dominion over the Earth, humanity finds itself at the mercy of their bloodthirsty overlords. But still, life goes on. Vampires, reliant on the blood of humans to survive, create places for humans to live and prosper. To be guarded from the outside world and receive proper care for their ills. In return, they are only expected to donate blood every year. And reproduce. But occasionally, such places are raided. As some humans are turned, and the rare Vampire offspring is born, more blood is needed than what can be farmed.
Thus we turn to the cities of the vampires. A sprawling metropolis. Schools, apartments, fine cars. The social elite. The working class. The destitute. Being a vampire in a world of vampires does not mean instant wealth or status. Truly, the ones at the top of the social ladder are the purebloods. Vampires whose lineage can trace back over a millennia. Those who can count the most ancient among their family tree. Due to the nature of their long-lived lives, it is incredibly rare for a Pureblood couple to conceive and give birth to a child. When such an event occurs, it is deemed a holiday. And a raid can occur to satiate party guests. The humans who somehow survive being on the menu are carted off to stores for the rest of the population. The half-bloods. The turned. These must work for their living. Either tending to the humans in the farms or through simple office work and city planning.
It is in one of these stores that a pair of twins have found themselves. Both human. Both raised in a farm until the day of the raid. Kept in the dark as friends they knew were taken away, they clung to each other. Then, they were moved once again and marked with a number, cuffed and collared and shoved in a cage. For all the fear and pain, they were simply glad to be together. And they promised they would stick together and look out for each other.
The vampire who ran the store had other plans. Twins were a rarity nowadays. And having a pair to show off to his customers was fine enough. But their bond annoyed him. So he was determined to break it. With the numbers marking them, he could tell them apart. And so began his plan. One twin, he made a point to learn the name she had been given by her parents. The other, he only referred to by her number. The one twin, he gave good food, nicer clothes, more comfortable bedding. The other, the bare minimum. One twin, he made sure to keep untouched by rude customers. Unharmed by those who sought to taste before buying. The other, he'd even go out of his way to punish for minor infractions. Still, though the bond wavered as the gulf of difference in treatment widened, as long as one still clung to the other, it did not break. But it was weak. It's only a matter of time before it will crumble under his mistreatment.
Two vampires. Alike in status, yet of two different temperaments, have decided, for one reason or another, that they are in need of a personal human companion. The two vampires are looking into creating a new human farm to help with the blood shortages that have been hurting their way of life lately. One to build, the other to maintain the wellbeing of the products. One, a kind soul, looking only for a human that fits his preferred blood type to feed from every now and then. Other than that, to have a helping hand in organizing his fairly busy life. The other, a more stern sort, looking for a human that fits his preferred blood type. He expects certain exacting tasks from her and to gain some more hands-on knowledge about the difference between human and vampire physiology. He needs someone he shouldn't feel guilty about hurting.
The shop is where their paths cross.
