It was her favorite lake. It was wide and long and almost fathomless like the ocean, at least to her eyes. The other side of the lake wasn't visible from this shore and she enjoyed the vastness of it. She also enjoyed the shifting hues of the water. Today it was lilac, one of her favorite colors. She enjoyed the way it enhanced the magic and majesty of the place and cast everything in a purple hue. It was calming. She sat upon a hill overlooking this lake, her various collected items scattered around her as she sat and ground up the base for one of her paints. It was a type of sand that was actually purple that she had found. She was grinding it up super fine before she can add the oil to make it into a paint. This was her happy place. Quiet, pleasant temperatures, clear skies, and the rhythmic tune of the lake to enjoy. She began to hum as she worked.

Another day, another path to tremble under his hooves. Atheron, raced to no where. Weaving between trees and leaping over rocks, he just let lose. In a hurry with no destination lead to reckless pathing.

In a word of magic and spirits, something out there has a trickster spirit. The sharp turn towards the lake brought his run to a shift stop. The act of putting on breaks on sandy surface hurt less but almost sent him toppling head over hooves.

Arms out to balance himself, the dark stallion tried to remain as silent as a running tornado could. Checking carefully under his hooves, it didn't look like he destroyed anything - this time.

The tune she was humming died in her throat as a familiar form came crashing into view. How could it possibly be? It was unmistakable, the bright hair, the way he moved. Or rather the way he TRAMPLED everything around him. He truly was the most disruptive being Flora had ever seen. She merely peered at him in disbelief for a moment before letting out a long sigh. Glancing down at her work she found a few specks of the local sand mixed in with her purple sand. She hadn't yet added the oil but it would be impossible to UN-mix the newly added color. She sighed again, frowning. She could return to where she'd collected the purple sand easily enough and get more, and she could use this as a different color paint just fine. An annoyance, but nothing too disruptive. She looked back up at the male.

"It's you," she said matter-of-factly. "You managed not to screw anything up too bad this time." She started to re-pack the sand into a jar to finish later. "What are you doing out here now? Protecting this area too?" She smirked at him as she continued packing her things.

It worked well the last time, Atheron chose to first hand out the small bundle of flowers he'd found recently. The flower petals would make great pigment, as long as it wasn't mixed with anything too acidic. Mirroring Revenna's way of speech, he addressed their meeting, "Spirits decided we should meet again." The isle was so large that even he had never truly seen all of ends. How could he run into one 'taur in all of it when he still hadn't found his own herd?

Looking at her work more, he added off handily, "They have strange humors..." Protecting? More like "Hunting."

Did he say that out loud? No way that could be taken badly.

Curiously, he added to show interest in what she was doing, "What are you making?" The color stand was clearly intentional, just what was it?

She paused in the packing up of her things to accept the offered flowers with a quizzical look. Was he just carrying these around waiting to anger someone? Still, they were pretty so she wrapped them up with some of her other flowers. "Thank you," she said and continued cleaning up, but paused again and had to stand tall and look him in the eye. "Humors? Strange humors?" What was he talking about? She looked down at her half-finished paint. It looked normal to her. "I'm making paint," she said, answering his question. Shaking her head she finished cleaning up her workstation and storing her supplies. "That's what I collect flowers and other things for - I dry them and make paint out of the dust and oils I collect." The Spirits had a strange sense of humor to keep throwing this guy at her. "What are you hunting? I can't imagine you're too successful with how loud and destructive you are running through the forest." She raised an eyebrow at him.

She wasn't yelling at him this time. Point for the flowers! "I am glad you like them." And glad he hadn't offended her quite as much as last time. That mattered. Why it mattered, other than good manners, seemed to escape him.

Spirits lifted he affirmed, "Exactly" Her questions mixed up with affirmations. IN his head she understood what he meant. Someone(s) must have thought it was funny to put the two of them back together again. The isle is huge, what chance was there to run into her again?

Ears perked, he listened carefully. Leaning a little bit further by the human waist, he got a closer look at what she was doing. "Fascinating." While the whole picture was missing, the parts he could see sung of her skill. This was something to learn and figure out. "I've mostly mixed colors with a milted fat. Or used the pure powder." Olive oils or animal oils worked well for what he needed. It didn't have long term staying power. Perhaps hers did?

Pulled form the thought he offered an explanation as he straiten up. "Depends on what I am hunting, loud flushes a lot out and I am quick." And agile, and amazing. That was clear, obviously. His grin advertised that pride.

She was truly perplexed by him. Clearly there was a disconnect in their communication. She shrugged it off though. It didn't really matter. She finished packing her things and stood up, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "What are you hunting then? What are you trying to scare out of the woods with all the noise?" She crossed her arms across her chest as she looked at him, eyebrow raised and smirk firmly in place. She'd seen hunters use sound to drive out prey before, but usually controlled sound created by banging branches or drums while carefully creeping through the woods, not barreling through with abandon. Everything about this taur was strange to her. She couldn't help being curious, however and wanted to see what he was trying to hunt.

Watching her, he was almost zoned out when she asked him about his hunt. Right, the hunt...What was he hunting again? Now that she caught him in a bit of a fib, he had to quickly work out an answer of some sort. Given her own interests, he blurted out, "Birds." For several heartbeats he was leaving that as one word.

Only, it didn't seem enough, for reasons beyond him, he tried to keep the conversation going, "Flush out a pheasant or canopy bird and they drop feathers. easy day." Just with what he'd gathered from meeting her, it didn't seem like an arm full of kills would really impress her. Birds might? Their feathers were beautiful like flowers and could be used as a brush.

"Birds." She repeated it flatly, staring hard at him. She raised a skeptical eyebrow as she tried to further explain. "So you're hunting... feathers." She scoffed a little. While his technique for gathering feathers wasn't the worst idea she'd ever heard, she had never heard anyone call it "hunting" before. Maybe he was lying? Did it matter? "Have you had any success yet?" She was only half-curious. In her head she was thinking about where she had found that sand she liked and whether it was too late in the day to go back for more or if it would be smarter to wait until morning to make the trek.

She was clearly impressed with his improve. Quitting while he was ahead would require actually being ahead. Feathers were going to have to be added to his list of things to carry around next time he wanted to pull this number.

Shifting from hoof to hoof, Atheron worked to think his way out of this one. Unconditionally he didn't have anything else clever on him. "I caught where they headed. If I hurry I'll get them where they nest. Easy pickings." He flicked his ear in the direction behind him as he found what she was picking up far too interesting.

Flowers and feathers, just what else would he need to keep on him to avoid trouble? There was a sinking feeling she'd end up teaching him each time they met. After meeting twice, that itch on the back of his neck told him they would probably cross paths again.

She really didn't know what to think about this guy. Each time they've encountered each other she's felt confused. She really just couldn't get a read on him. "Well I don't want to hold you up then," she said, gesturing that he should go in the direction he'd indicated as where the birds had flown. She was about to dismiss him completely and turn away when a thought occurred to her. "My name is Flora Rose, by the way." She paused to hear his name.

PostPosted: Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:28 pm
With her leave, he was ready to get moving. Eventually he'd figure out why he was so awkward around her. One day, maybe the end of his days the epiphany would show up. He wasn't blind to the negative impact of his behavior around her. Just confused as to why and just what he could do to not be as awkward as a yearling.

Another time.

Then she mentioned her name. Caught mid-step, he paused and looked back at her. "I am Atheron, Atheron Lycone. Nice to meet you again." The common pleasantries came out easily.

"Atheron. Good luck. It's been...something." She turned and headed off, her rumbling stomach reminding her she needed some food. She headed towards home, looking forward to relaxing after a long day.

He waved at her as she went her own way. 'Something' was probably the most charitable description of the encounter. He'd take it.

Heading into his own direction, Atheron moved on to harass some birds into dropping feathers. He wasn't going to be good to his word. Just his word was given before the deed.

He'll be ready should they cross paths again.
