Please Read what this flaffle is for! I would really appreciate it. This flaffle is made to not only give to our community at Soquili but it is also created in efforts by Soquili Staff and ran by me to intentionally spread awareness for what September 30th means for Indigenous Peoples, in at least, Canada. However, because Indigenous Peoples all around the world are and/or have been oppressed and have struggles to face daily, I believe that this day should be hands-down international.
Speaking of hands, the usual symbols you will see will be hands, orange ribbons, white feathers and orange in general. Orange in many Aboriginal cultures represents Truth-Seeking.
Today marks the second official Orange Shirt Day also known as Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada. This day commemorates Indigenous Children who were victims to residential schools. Upon investigations the last year and a half, mass graves in which Indigenous Children of all ages (including infants) where disposed of by the government and church. As stated previously, residential schools are not only Canada's problem. They were also in America and If we want to use another example, I would use the very related treatment that Australian Aboriginal Peoples had to endure in their own residential schools.
Right now the official count (as of June 9th, 2022) is 2,301 children in unmarked graves. This search is an unfinished search. This also does not account for the marked graves of children who faced horrendous living circumstances. I want to preface what I'm about to say next by saying that this in no way is to press on anyone's religious views or place hate on anyone who is Roman Catholic or a believer of Christian faith or are in general a People of the Book.
What were residential schools in at least Canada? They were boarding schools for Indigenous peoples set up all over the country. Here the children were taken from their parents forcefully by the Christian Church and stripped of their traditions, languages, cultures and even their hair. Although this is a piece of history, Canadian residential schools are actually very modern and the last school to close was even in 1997 and were barely spoken about in schools.
To learn more about Truth and Reconciliation Day and if you'd like to learn more about Indigenous Residential Schools you can go here. If you'd really like a good youtube-and-podcast video on Unmarked Graves here is Bailey Sarian's Dark History of Unmarked Graves and Residential Schools from 2021. (There is language here and it is not sugar-coated. Sarian does touch on American and Canadian Aboriginal Peoples. Sarian also has subtitles!)

Blue Roan Dapple by Kara Asumie
Circles around the eye symbolize better eyesight in Navajo traditional horse paints. Kara placed these to commemorate the idea of looking forward with better eyes.

Coyote by elfstar89
This coyote is based on the Western bands of Indigenous Peoples in the US!
Elf Notes:
The turquoise is, well, turquoise, carrying symbolic associations with water and the sky
Abalone and spiny oysters (and, later, coral) were symbolic of the sea, as they were actual shellfish

Mother Bear and her Coyotes | Mother Bear Alone by Saint Vis (Coyotes are Canon Littermates)
Based on my own Nations of Ontario Algonquin and Huron from Quebec in Canada, the bear represents protection, in my own narration of her, I considered her a victim who rescued pups and escaping their situation. The coyotes are young adults/teen coyotes who were raised by the bear. In the medicine wheel, youth is often represented by the colour red and so are coyotes. This wheel is under my interpretation as an Algonquin. The floating white emblem is a passed sibling of the coyotes, or a parent the interpretation is up to the winner! Children in Huron are considered the closest to the spiritual realm. The coyotes are all aware of the spirit that is present.
I almost missed the Coyote colt Elf did in the numbering at first, so not-canon but the coyotes absorbed him into their family lul!

Kara's inspiration was a mother who had lost her child for this Soquili. This is sadly very much so a reality and the biggest reality for the parents of the students.

Corn Silk Sister by elfstar89 (Canon Oldest Sister of 10 & 11)
Bean Sprout Sister by elfstar89 (Canon Middle Sister of 9 & 11)
Squash Blossom Sister by elfstar89 (Canon Youngest Sister of 9 & 10)
Elf coloured these three as representation of the Three Sisters. The three sisters are: corn, beans and squash. Althought the Three Sisters is rather universal now, these three derive from Hopi traditions and are wearing Hopi jewelry, mosaics and traditional hair styles. They also have some traditional Hopi pottery! Bet you can't wait for these lovely ladies to grow.
