Times were changing in the world of vampires and Dia Chela, like all the rest, had felt the changing of the guard. There was a new god to rule them and old loyalties to Caine would now either be severed or tested and it would be up to each clan to make something out of the upheaval. The Lasombra would not find themselves being left behind.

She had been at the mansion party and had been confronted by two Gangrel mutts who hadn’t known a civilized moment in their worthless lives and during so had felt the early rumblings of change. She had left soon after, slipping past the waiting mongrels with ease and made her report to the higher ups as was protocol.

Now she walked the manse’s hallways, her feet sinking into the soft velvet carpets, the shadows trailing behind her, as she made her way to a particularly lovely door, where she paused, hesitating just a moment before giving a polite knock.

The Countess was waiting within.

Aurora sat upon the feinting couch twirling her sacred rose as the Countess repeatedly slid her claws across her desk. The manse quivered with rumors from those that had been hearing the gossip. Caine was replaced by another. Indeed, this feeling was potentially uneasiness, or was it purely something else in terms of the Shadows hinged to the very frame of the Sabat? While both females sat immersed in their thoughts, Countess didn't even raise a brow as she swept her hand, gliding in the air as shadowy tendrils opened the door.

"It appears we have a visitor, Elder," the Disciple murmured, allowing the unranked Lasombra to enter the room. Drenched purples and black painted the mood and exterior around them. Aurora was the first to take an interest in the young Lasombra, nodding for her to officially enter.

On the other hand, Countess made no gesture, just a steely gaze toward the girl. Time seemed to settle within a frozen state before the Countess finally said, "What brings you to my quarters, child?" Aurora's gaze slid over to the countess whose gaze still lay upon Dia Chela.

Aurora would have soon excused herself from the room if she wasn't concerned for the younger vampire. Becoming brave enough to approach the Countess; left others wondering just what your conversation entailed. The clan's Disciple wasn't the easiest to please, yet she was quick to assume if things seemed unsettled or undone.

There was very little in the world that could make Dia Chela nervous but standing at the threshold of the Disciple’s room as the door slowly swung open, she felt the rather unfamiliar sensation of her stomach clenching with anxiety. She stood as still as a statue, locked in place by the gaze of the Countess, the beautiful and terrible guardian of the Lasombra. It was only when the much older female spoke, that she felt allowed to move again.

She stepped forward into the room, dipping into a respectful curtsy. She held it for a moment before rising again, also including Aurora with a quicker, smaller nod. Dia Chela couldn’t help but fear that the news she’d brought was useless. The Countess owned the shadows and they had a way of speaking, however one could not attend such a party without returning with information. That would have been far more of a faux pas.

“I bring you news from the party hosted by the Toreador,” she answered. “I attended as a guest, to witness the first gathering of vampires in so many years. There was,” she tilted her head thoughtfully, a finger to her lips, apparently searching for the right words though in truth she had already come prepared, “much afoot. Whispers from gods and a shifting of power. A change is coming.”

She did not mention the Gangrel. They weren’t worth even being spoken of.

Countess didn't even blink as her deafening stare radiated deep into Dia Chela. Aurora didn't budge, knowing full well that this childer should have known her place stepping up toward that door. Things were still being mended from Cameron's foolery as he rose to power. The Spirals, oh, how had devastated the Manse with their foul misdeeds and unspeakable acts. This left the clan disheveled, even with the support of the shadows. Aurora licked her fangs, a gentle swipe procuring a drop of blood, settling on her tongue. Dia's bravery intrigued her, but the shadowed elder knew another Lasombra, her Sire.

Countess's expression was solid, training on the younger unranked Lasombra. The stillness in the room was unyielding before she even spoke, "I see," she responded with no emotion. A brow rose, perhaps in concentration; she seemed intrigued, a childer taking the initiative for a change. Most wanted new ranks only to see the forefront of a door slam in the promising faces. Lasombras believed in total domination of others they could manipulate. Suddenly, a harpsichord started playing with a mournful melody within the halls, creating a somber, relaxed atmosphere.

Countess seemed to breathe if only an intimated gesture, "Indeed, there is a rumor circulating that has taken root here in the shadows. Interestingly, you took the initiative to infiltrate the Toreador. There needs to be more initiative within these walls."

Aurora blinked, for Countess was rare to converse unless an issue arose.

Countess's eyes slid slowly toward Aurora like a creeping shadow, then returned to Dia Chela, "I think there will be changes. Yes, changes in my clan". The shadow that wrapped around her snaked tendrils toward Dia Chela, curved fingers curled around the vampire's shoulders, cold yet embracing. "I know why you are here, child. In your own words living within these walls. Tell me, above all, Why you deserve what you seek?".

It had been many, many long years since Dia Chela had known fear. There wasn't much that could threaten her and other vampires usually left her well enough alone. Even they could sense the difference in a Lasombra that had embraced the shadows. But the Countess was ancient, a creature in power she could never match, even if she lived for another thousand years. She was unfathomable and at a whim, she could decide Dia’s fate.

The fear she felt coiled in her belly like a snake and she pushed it down, kept her expression politely neutral. Her initiative would either lift her up or doom her. She had known that from the beginning but it had been a gamble she had been willing to take. What was the point in an endless unlife if you didn’t push yourself higher?

She could sense Aurora’s regard and subsequent surprise, and knew just how close she had been to destruction. But her attention was entirely on the Countess, as her shadows coiled around her. In response, her own shadows pooled at her feet, like a living being, writhing.

“Countess, I, more so than many who call themselves Lasombra, have followed the shadow path. I have sought a darkness beyond night. I seek glory and power and I do so in the name of our clan,” she answered, honestly, her chin up, eyelids lowered. “The abyss calls to me and I answer. That is my purpose, and I will continue to walk it.”

For once, amidst Aurora, a Lasombra had proven her worth. Rankless yet daring to speak with the founder. She instead loved her power as her fingers intertwined with the shadows. Knowledge had spread of this new power she would seek out on her terms. For now, she would pause a moment as shadows twirled around her finger like a beloved kindred spirit. The silence, unnerving as it resonated throughout this personal library, swept over Aurora like chilled fingers. Countess being extremely conniving at times, was the master of this residence. She would silence any threats as those steely eyes bore into your undead soul.

Countess's stare finally broke as her eyes blinked, "Yes, yes, you are," she responded. She paused once more as the silence stilled, a harpsichord playing within the endless Manse, "Shadows are tricky things, Are they not?" she mused momentarily, "We seek out what we must know which, Dia Chela, you have done. "Then she paused, a snap of the fingers which caused a shadow to emerge from thin air. Then she nodded, "Continue seeking information, reporting it back if interest is gathered. I'm sure you will do well with Aurora as my second Elder". She then turned to Aurora, "Teach her well with a watchful eye. I'm certain neither of you will fail that task".

Aurora nodded a small smile, curving, "Welcome. Dia Chela. We have much to discuss".

If she had a breath to release, Dia Chela would have. But that was a mortal trait and she could not afford to show any weakness, even if it was a relief to not be cut down by shadows for daring to approach the Countess. It seemed that at least today, her efforts had been appreciated. She’d gambled and it had paid off.

Dia Chela could feel the call of her shadows, the strength they offered her. She curtsied, low and respectful. “Thank you, my lady. I will not fail.” She looked forward to being placed in Aurora’s hands, to advance her power and position.

To Aurora, she smiled, her gaze betraying her delight and her hunger. “Oh yes, we do. I can hardly wait.”
