it all started when Ravnos gave Vadoma a tea set.

The little girl was obsessed with the idea of sitting around looking fancy while drinking tea. She had wanted so badly to host her one tea party that she had begged for days until finally her father’s relented and said yes.

Even though she had no clue who she might invite Vadoma still scribbled out little invitations that simply read ‘Tee partee at the temple please come!’. Once she had done that she had given them to Grendel, certain that he would know who to give one to. He was a God afterall.

The next few days she had been cutting paper shapes to hang along with pretty streamers. She had decided that one of the outside courtyards would be the perfect place to hold her party. There was a large table with a fancy cloth lain over it and a table off to the side with any numerous kind of snack one could want. She had to chase Kieran away from it otherwise he would gobble up everything.

As the time drew near she had been up in her room trying on different dresses. A large pink bow in her dark hair that was up and braided around her head. Vadoma was getting nervous. What if no body showed up? Or she said something silly. But her excitement seemed to over ride the anxiety and her little body felt like it was vibrating.

But someone did show up. It was not a difficult journey from the depths of the great forest to Grendel's temple. Narcise had packed several dozen blood cookies into a lined basket for the god and his family to enjoy, fresh out of the oven. In a beautiful handmade box she had carefully placed a gift for the tea party's diminutive hostess, and wrapped the box with a ribbon. She herself had dressed nicely for the occasion, donning a neat cream dress with a rose pattern, a pair of low heeled shoes, short lace gloves, and a fascinator. Tucking the box beneath one arm, she hooked the handle of the basket beneath the other, and set off into the forest.

There were many ways to get to the temple, but this was the fasted route. The great forest had many secrets and the Crone knew all of them. As she stepped into the trees, she focused on Grendel's temple. With every footstep, the space between the two places grew shorter, although they were by no means adjacent on an ordinary day. This was not an ordinary day, and Narcise stepped from one forest to another, and then out into the courtyard in which Vadoma waited. "Hello, dear," she said, recognizing Grendel's daughter instantly, though they had only met when she'd held her as an infant. "What a lovely bow," she said, with a smile for the little girl.

Gremlin's invitation had not been intended for her.

Christabella had received it, accepting it from her father, Grendel, with grace and her usual charm. He had thought of her only because of his two older daughters, she had been the one to come and visit the temple once before, and she was the one he had a closer relationship. He thought, given that Vadoma was her half-sister, she was an obvious choice as an invitee.

However, Gremlin's mother had other plans. As thrilled as she was to have been thought of, her daughter's mopey attitude of late had begun to concern her deeply. The young vampire seemed diminished in some ways, sad and forlorn in others. And as much as Gremlin tried to hide it and refused to talk about it with her, Christabella knew. She had a keen mother's instinct.

So, she passed the invitation on to Gremlin, hoping the tea party would be a pleasant distraction. Something to take her mind off of whatever (or whoever, she guessed) was filling her thoughts and making her seem distant and down of late. Gremlin, of course, was hesitant at first, not a fan of public gatherings or being around strangers, but Christabella assured her that it would be okay, that her great-grandmother might even be there, and that seemed to perk the girl up a bit. Finally persuaded, Gremlin had begun to give in to the idea of attending the tea party.

When the day arrived, she still felt a bit out of sorts, but that had more to do with nerves than anything else. Her mom had helped her, finding her a dress that she would be comfortable in, though that was of course then hidden beneath an older, no longer used, tablecloth that Gremlin had fashioned into a slightly fancier version of her usual costume.

She arrived at the temple on the date and time that Grendel had told her mother, scurrying along the ground on all fours but stopping short of the temple itself, suddenly overwhelmed with anxiety that nearly froze her to her spot. Beneath her sheet, she fiddled with the fabric of her dress and chewed on her bottom lip, feeling very unsure of herself and wondering if she had made a mistake in coming here. But she remembered what her mother said, that Lilith might be here, and that thought both comforted and excited her.

Eventually, she convinced herself to approach the temple cautiously, though it was large and realized she had no idea where she was meant to go once she arrived. So, she did the only other thing she could think to do at that moment and whispered out loud a question to be carried through the shadows that clung to this place.

"Lilith, are you here?"

A warm breeze whispered across the grounds, ruffling the hem of Gremlins sheet as it passed. The exotic scent of spices and the grounding aroma of earth filling the air. From the shadows a set of red eyes suddenly burned, like twin embers, and Lilith leaned forward out of the darkness. As though summoned by her great-granddaughters plee. "Yes, Gremlin. I'm here." She replied warmly.

Lilith had received the invitation and with it a feeling somewhere between warmth and hesitation. She wasn't exactly certain she belonged at an event like this. Not because she felt unwanted or ostracized, but because of her nature. The Dark Mother had been unstable lately, angry, and the rituals had been rough on her journey to recover her memories and abilities. She was making little progress and every tiptoe towards her goal took excessive amounts of energy. She also hadnt the faintest idea how to dress for a childrens tea party but had done her best to find something. It probably still wasn't quite right. Her long beautiful hair had been done up and adorned with golden threads, hair pins, and nine pointed seeds.

In her heart she wanted desperately to feel at ease, to be a part of her family's life in a way she had never been before. She wouldn't let her struggle get in the way of being here. Not when she'd been asked. Lilith approached the smaller vampire and extended her hand to allow Gremlin to take it if she so desired. She could feel the nerves radiating from her and something else. Lilith didn't let the frown mar her features, but she was well aware there was something else troubling her great-granddaughter's energy. What that trouble was precisely, she couldn't possibly know. "Shall we go in together?" Her voice was gentle, giving a reassuring smile as she spoke. Hoping it helped even a little.

Vadoma had been so busy straightening out little stacks of napkins on the snack table that she hadn’t noticed the woman as she appeared until her voice reached her ears. The little vampire’s head snapped around causing the large bow on her head to wobble back and forth.

She didn’t know who this lady was, not in a way you knew a friend of family member. But she felt familiar somehow. Like a blurry memory. She was really really pretty though and Vadoma couldn’t help but stare for a moment.

In the next instant she had left the table and cleared the distance between them with a few skips, stopping just short of running into the Disciple. Balling up her fists she held them close to her face and made a little squeaky noise as she danced excitedly in place. “You came! Great!” But then she remembered this was supposed to be a fancy tea party and Vadoma settled. Grabbing the edges of her plain white dress and curtsying. “How do you do?”

The comment on her bow made her grin and she reached up to tug on the ends making sure it was secure. It would be horrible if it just fell off and landed in the tea. “Thank you! My Papa got it for me.”

When the little vampire bounded up to her, Narcise smiled. Though burdened with a basket and a box, she sank into a curtsey of her own, mirroring the tiny hostess. "I'm very well, thank you. How do you do, Vadoma?" she asked, resisting the desire to reach out and ruffle the child's carefully coiffed hair. The Disciple set the basket of cookies down on the table, unsurprised when they mysteriously disappeared. Well, they were mainly for Grendel, anyway. That did leave her arms free to present the gift to Vadoma, however... which was very convenient.

Narcise sensed a familiar presence, but remained focus on the girl. "Your papa has good taste," she complimented. "Here. This is for you." Inside the ribbon wrapped box was a beautiful dress and headpiece that she'd hand sewn just for the young vampire. Fortunately, she'd had a good idea of what would suit her beforehand, so that when the invitation arrived it was just a matter of getting everything together and doing the actual sewing.
