▱▰▱Akaran traveled to the Eien Hono Temple for his weekly worship service. As the Asaryu, he wanted to dedicate as much time as possible to training under Master Eiji. When he stepped into the temple, he found Eiji in the center and bowed to him. "Hello, Master Ei-ji. Sorry I'm late." Akaran lost track of time with his Shogun duties. He hated the paperwork and monotony at all. Thankfully he had Akihiko there to help him with the reading and important details. "Lord Shogun. I know you have many important matters to attend to. Are you ready to begin?" Eiji smiled and seemed much more patient with Akaran as his teacher. Akaran nodded before Eiji took him to the training and meditation room in the back of the temple with the other sages. "In the Eien Hono Temple, we are the largest temple dedicated to the samurai practice of fire ninshu in the world. We also teach Tenryu Shinko under the saintly general of the red bird." Eiji explained the basic facts of the temple as this was Akaran's first day of training and meditation.

▱▰▱Akaran was never particularly religious before he became the Asaryu. That event changed his life and made him realize that he needed to be in touch with the faith of his homeland to fulfill his destiny. "What's samurai ninshu? Is it different than ninja ninshu?" Akaran felt a little embarrassed asking such a basic question. He was never afraid of looking like an oaf before so he supposed he would not start now. "That's how the samurai and shinobi split apart in the first place, thousands of years ago. Shinobi ninshu emphasizes connecting others through chakra. Samurai ninshu, what we practice, focuses on chakra's connection to the individual spirit." Akaran was having trouble understanding what he meant but he kept quiet for now. He was more of a learn-by-doing type of person. He sat near the eternal flame once the other sages assembled. "Feel the natural energy in the flame. Remember that fire lives in the breath. Your chakra then connects it to your heart, your passion. As you begin to understand that, allow it to take you to the soul. You have the soul of the Asaryu, you can connect directly to the celestial realms of the Tenryu Shinko. Use that privilege to become enlightened." The wise sage advised Akaran on what to do. Akaran listened carefully and breathed. He allowed the feeling of the heat, the sound of the roaring flames, and the serenity that came with it to overwhelm him. "Fire is chaos, destruction, and passion. You must use the power of your discipline to control it. When fire is controlled, it can bring warmth and life with it." Eiji then walked over to the flame and inhaled deeply. As he did so, he made deliberate movements that resembled martial arts. Small streams of flame from the eternal fire accompanied him as he performed the exercise.

▱▰▱Akaran watched Eiji's impressive mastery over fire ninshu before him. He already understood far more about the practices of the fire sages than he ever had before. Yet he felt that this was only the tip of the iceberg. There was so much left to learn and discover. As he meditated on the concepts of fire, he was inspired by the possibilities of what else he could learn. Eiji continued his lesson as he moved about so expertly. "Think of the great Kohryu as his aspect lives in you. Think of the red bird who protects the south. Our temple is in the Peak Sun Quarter but our temple faces south for his reason." Akaran contemplated the southern cardinal direction as Eiji instructed. He could feel his connection to the fire and to the bird spirit growing. He meditated on the red bird, the Kohryu, and the eternal flame. The warmth of the raging flame was comforting to him in a way as he meditated. Akaran's body became covered in golden fiery chakra as he meditated. The chakra represented the celestial chakra from his Mark of the Familiar. It began mixing with his regular chakra as he deepened his connection to Tenryu Shinko. Eiji stopped meditating and moving to take a moment to observe this. "Excellent! Keep concentrating. I can feel the great power of our faith's traditions flowing through you." Eiji encouraged him and Akaran appreciated it as he did his best to keep focused. Akaran supposed that Eiji's teaching ability is what allowed the temple to be so successful over the decades.

▱▰▱The eternal flame itself began reacting to the Asaryu's meditation. The flames turned as golden as the scales of the Kohryu. It was beautiful for Eiji and the other sages to behold. Akaran continued his deep meditation as the eternal flame moved with him. It would flicker in rhythm with Akaran's spiritual essence. His connection to it deepened and it felt like a gateway to the celestial plane. "Well done! You may rise." Akaran opened his eyes the moment Eiji spoke. He took to his feet and got closer to the fire. Eiji widened his stance and showed Akaran some movements that would be able to deepen his connection to the fire and the Tenryu Shinko. "Got it." Akaran responded to the movements. He practiced each one and would repeat when he made a mistake. His limbs and torso moved in rhythm and pattern to the fire in his spirit. "Keep breathing. You can still meditate when you're moving." Akaran immediately took several deep inhales and exhales as he felt the fire building up inside of him. He threw several punches, arm jabs, and kicks. Akaran sweated as he moved so much next to the heat. The exercise was breaking down any tension he had felt from his history with the elder sage. "Now hold the breath in." Eiji ordered as Akaran continued copying his movements. Akaran stopped exhaling as he continued moving. The movements were increasing in intensity and Akaran fought hard to keep the breath in. "Hold it, hold it." Akaran felt like Eiji was torturing him as he was drenched in sweat. "And...exhale!" Akaran then finally felt the relief of breathing out. As he did so, golden fire flowed out from his breath. "Well done, Asaryu!" Eiji smiled as he saw the fire's breath that the Kohryu blessed him with. Once the fire was out from his soul, Akaran smiled in amazement and surprise. Wow! I didn't know I could do that." Akaran felt a sense of accomplishment in this small act. "Yes! All of the Seinaru Enjo sages can do that." Eiji did feel a kind of kinship with Akaran as he breathed out the flame. "However, yours is unique. You have the breath of the Asaryu. Meditate on that on your own later." Eiji hoped that this would broaden Akaran's horizons, so to speak.

▱▰▱Now that Akaran had finished his exercises, he sat down across from the elder to debrief and discuss. "I can feel the fire in my soul a lot more than I used to. Is this what it means to be a fire sage?" Akaran asked innocently of the elder as he sat down on the floor across from him. "It is certainly a part of it. But the deeper meaning is that you'll gain power over others that you must never use to hurt them. To have power along with the restraint and wisdom to use it well is central to Tenryu Shinko and all of Ninshu. That is the core of what we practice and it's what unites all followers of Ninshu." Eiji taught Akaran this lesson but he had a feeling that Akaran already knew it. It was just worth emphasizing. "Alright. How can I learn more?" He felt that he had made grade progress in one day but he yearned for greater understanding. "I appreciate your enthusiasm. Come back tomorrow or any other time to learn more. On your own time, reflect on what you've learned of Tenryu Shinko and Fire Ninsu." Eiji realized that the instructions sounded more straight forward than they would be in execution. "I'll do that. I feel like my life has so much more meaning now." This was inspiring for Akaran and Eiji as well. One of the joys of the elder's life was teaching others the way and helping them find fulfillment as he had. Meanwhile, Akaran reflected on how he could use his special gifts as the Asaryu to help others. He left the temple that day to go home, feeling spiritually satisfied.
