A long, drawn out sigh floated from Sasaki's mouth as he shambled up to the village's main gate. Today marked the first day of what he'd been referring to as a "mission campaign". He'd been assigned a handful of missions around the country that largely consisted of humanitarian efforts. Of course with that much travel, there was always potential for violence, but the chunin hoped to avoid as much of it as he could. Given the team he'd been assigned however, he had concerns on that matter.

"Hey, Gomaru! Look who finally turned up! The Flowery Pacifist!"

"Haha! Looks like we'll be doing the heavy lifting this time around, Tomaki!"

The chunin let out an exhausted sigh and rolled his eyes. "I really wish you guys wouldn't call me that. You know I just don't enjoy fighting like you goons. I'm not like... morally opposed." The pair continued to snicker to themselves, entertained by their colleague's resignation toward their ridiculousness. Sasaki didn't let their antics get to him, despite his protests. The pair truly were a couple of goons, who just liked getting a rise out of others. Not true bullies, just a pair of semi-witty muscle heads. "Besides, you really shouldn't talk to your superiors that way." The chunin pulled a scroll from his pouch and unfurled it slightly to reveal the heading at the top, indicating this was the mission leader copy of their orders. The pair's faces went white for a moment as they began stuttering out apologies. Sasaki might not be a fearsome figure, but the threat of an insubordination charge surely was. The Senju laughed at their reactions and waved them down. "Calm down, I'm just giving you guys s**t too. Buuuuut, since you're so sure you're doing the heavy lifting, why don't you guys start on it? We've got about ten minutes to get the carts loaded up with the medical supplies. Any longer than that and we'll be running behind."

The pair jumped right on their new orders and began hauling crates toward the cart waiting for them just outside the gate. To Sasaki's surprise, Gomaru and Tomaki had the cart loaded in record time, filling the space in just over five minutes. "Damn guys, good work. Maybe you really are the muscle here." The men smiled at the compliment, Gomaru responding with wit. "Was that ever really in doubt?" Sasaki couldn't help but laugh. "No, I suppose not." A few minutes later, the team was on their way to their first village.

It wasn't long after noon that the team arrived at their first stop of their journey. They unloaded a full crate along with a couple small packs from a second crate, and hauled them out to a small infirmary in the middle of the tiny village they'd rolled into. Due to the upswing in Jashinist activity across the globe, their regular deliveries of medical supplies had been disrupted. This had been the first one they'd received in over a month, and it was apparent by the depressing appearance of the community's storeroom. "Do... you guys need some help while we're here? I know you just requested supplies, but I've got some medical experience if you need a hand." The eyes of the lead doctor lit up, and ushered the chunin into their triage area. Sasaki looked over the packed room and was filled with guilt. How long had they been overwhelmed like this? Without another word, the Senju pushed his sleeves up and set to work on the nearest patient. He would set about a routine of introducing himself, asking a few cursory questions, then waving his green glowing hands over various parts of their bodies, using his chakra to probe their bodies and diagnose their issues. Most were simple infections, but a few more serious concerns popped up here and there, which he was sure to alert the actual doctor about as he found them. All in all, it only took Sasaki about an hour to push through triaging all of the patients, something that would've taken most of the day for the civilian employees. Of course this would set the team back a bit, but Sasaki felt like leaving the medical facility in such a mess was irresponsible. Having set them up to keep a good flow going, the chunin gathered his squad mates and set back on the road.

Their next stop was slightly simpler, a basic drop-off to an even smaller town. Their small population played to their advantage on this front, as they hadn't come nearly as close to exhausting their supplies as the previous ones had. Sasaki and the goons unloaded roughly half a crate of medical supplies, and half a crate of dry goods the general store had ordered. With the supplies offloaded, the group opted to rest at the village's tiny inn for the night, as opposed to setting up camp in the forest in a couple hours. Sweaty from wandering the country roads, the group shuffled off to a hot spring and washed up before making their way back to the inn. Sasaki took first shift watching the cart of supplies, deciding that leaving it unattended even in such a small town was against their best interests. Next was Gomaru, then Tomaki. When morning rolled around, they moved on to the next stop.

Just before noon the squad rolled into the third town, where they were met with hearty welcomes from the town citizens. This particular town had been hit with a terrible infestation of insects which had ruined several staple crops for them. Tomaki and Gomaru worked on unloading and delivering several crates of produce and dry goods, while Sasaki worked on conducting checkups for particularly concerning looking citizens. While a few clearly needed some extra nutrients, nobody turned out to be seriously ill, which was a nice surprise for the chunin. Without any nasty surprises to deal with, the squad moved along rather quickly, making up for their lost time the previous night.

As the sun was setting, the trio arrived to their final supply drop location. To their surprise, nobody seemed to be around to greet them. Sasaki directed the other two to guard the cart as he wandered around looking for anyone to meet with. The longer he walked through the town, the more unsettled he felt. There was an eerie silence throughout the town that crept it's way into the chunin's bones. Just as the feeling was becoming overwhelming, a door burst open just after Sasaki passed it. He turned just in time to grab the cane and prevent it from smaking him in the face. With his free hand he thrust his palm out and struck the man in the chest, knocking him to ground. The old man let out a yelp and a soft grunt as he hit the ground. Sasaski let out a relieved sigh and offered the man his hand. "Geeze, you scared the hell out of me. Here, let me help you up." The old man eyed Sasaki up and downa few times before taking his hand and leaning up onto his feet again. Sasaki handed him his cane and continued. "Here you go. Where the hell is everyone?"

The man put his fingers to his mouth and let out a piercing whistle. A moment later, doors began to creep open slowly and people filled the streets once again. "We saw your cart coming from up the road, so we locked ourselves down tight. The last few groups of travelers we've had weren't exactly friendly." Sasaki couldn't help but feel sorry for these people. What had happened that they'd organized a damn lockdown procedure? He didn't hesitate to ask. "What kind of travelers caused this sort of reaction?" Color faded from the man's face as he seemed to flashback to the recent visits. "Well it started when one of those skeleton looking religious nuts came through. Barely spoke a word as he cut through the gate guards and painted themselves up. After that display we were just relieved he only bothered with those two, awful as it sounds. Hardly a week later a dozen thieves strolled through town. They took just about everything that wasn't nailed down and beat bloody anyone that tried to stop them. Since then, we haven't taken any chances."

Sasaki listened to haunted man's woes with sympathy. It sounded like the village really needed to step up patrols in the area. Things had been spread thin for a while, but it wasn't fair to these small towns to just be left to the will of bandits. The Senju let out a sigh and rubbed his neck. "That's... that's rough... I'm sorry this has been going on. My team and I are actually ahead of schedule, so I'll see if we can't weed out some of the issues out here before we head home." Despite Sasaki's offer, the old man somehow looked more sad than before. "That's a nice thought, but after those bandits ran through, we really don't have the funds to afford another mission. Just ordering the supplies you boys brought was a large chunk of our funds and that was during a good time for us." Looking around at the state of the town, and more importantly its people, Sasaki couldn't imagine leaving them be as they were.

"I don't remember asking for payment. We're already here anyway. Who's to say we don't 'randomly get jumped by some lowlifes' on our way home?" Sasaki finished his statement with a wink, and saw the old man's expression lighten slightly. "Ahh, I see. That would be rather unfortunate, wouldn't it?" Sasaki smiled and nodded, and finally got a smile from the codger. "We'll unload the supplies, then set up at the inn. If you need us, you know where we'll be for the next few hours." With that, the chunin headed back to the cart to update his team and get on with what he'd promised.

Roughly an hour after sunset, Sasaki and the goons headed out into the forest. They figured nighttime would be their best chance of fighting a bandit camp. Thieves generally weren't known for their smarts, and the squad figured they could locate them by their campfires. It didn't take long for them do exactly that. Just as the old man had said, roughly a dozen men sat around a rather large fire, drinking and hollering without a care in the world. They'd clearly raided the town's bar, as most of them sat atop empty kegs and made trips to another one sat atop a particularly tall stump. The group watched them for nearly an hour before they crept in. A few had dawdled off to their tents for the night; Tomaki and Gomaru saw to them first. Without making a sound, the pair would gag the sleeping bandits, then tie them up with their own bedding before dragging them into the woods and stacking them like firewood. Within a few minutes, four of the fourteen men were taken care of, then other ten none the wiser.

As they worked, Sasaki started in on some of the others. The first to go was the drunken fool that wondered off to grab some more wood for the fire. Sasaki noticed him wandering over to their woodpile, and took the opportunity to hide a thick tree limb under his control amongst the pile. As the bandit reached for a log, Sasaki willed the trunk into the man's hands. As he stood up with it, Sasaki flicked the branch upward and walloped the man with a wooden uppercut. With hardly a sound, the man collapsed the ground, knocked out cold. The tree limb quickly lowered and wrapped itself around the man's leg and dragged him out into the woods and over to Gomaru and Tomaki's pile.

Next was the poor sod who'd stepped into the woods to take a leak. Sasaki decided to keep it simple with this one, and used a branch under his control to clock the man in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious into his own puddle of piss. Once again he used the tree limbs to move the bandit, letting his own goons deal with dirty work of stacking the urine-stained bandit with his buddies. Six down, eight to go.

Lucky number seven was the first one fo the group to show any sense of awareness. It had taken him some time, but he'd finally realized the guy that left to get more wood had never come back. Of course, he hadn't exactly gotten suspicious, just impatient. Sasaki couldn't fault the man for htis at least, as he was starting to fel the same way. In fact, instead of getting creative with his dispatching of this one, Sasaki opted to hide behind the pile and merely smack the man over the head with a log himself. Unfortunately, this one was a little stronger willed than his predecessor, and managed to let out a rather loud "Oomph!' Before hitting the ground. While not terribly loud, it was loud enough to get the attention of the other seven opponents.

It didn't take long before the remaining bandits were swarming the wood pile. While rather thickheaded, Gomaru and Tomaki were still reliable. The goons leapt into action quickly, snagging a theif each and dragging them off quietly into the woods as the other five approached Sasaki. They'd spotted him now, and closed in quickly. Thinking fast, Sasaski used the environment to advantage and summoned more of the flora in the area to his aid. Massive roots erupted from the ground and wrapped themselves around two of the bandits, anchoring them in place and knocking the wind out of them momentarily. The other three would significantly faster though, and Sasaki only managed to throw up a wooden wall to defend himself as they through themselves at him. Gomaru and Tomaki swooped in again for the rescur again however, knocking the middle bandit head first into the shield, knocking him out cold. They then grappled with another thief each, using their momentum to swing the pair into each other, dropping them as well. A few minutes later, the entire horde was tied up and ready to be hauled back to Tani for justice. Gomaru made the trip into town to fetch the now empty cart, and the trio loaded them into it a bit later. That same cart is where the bandit spent their night as well, the crisp night air their first punishment of many for them.

In the morning, the group headed home for Tani. With a slightly lighter load, and no need for extended stops in towns along the way, the squad made it home in a fraction of the time it took them to make their rounds the first time. The bandits wre turned over to Tani PD to have transported as further needed, and Sasaki headed to the Tanikage's office to give his report. Despite the unanticipated delay, the team had still made good time, and the report was kept rather minimal. Finally done with his week-long journey, Sasaki stopped home briefly to grab an extra set of clothes, and headed for the hot spring for a relaxing post-mission soak.
